We investigated some strange character favorite counts and discovered a bot network of almost 11,000 accounts that created around 200,000 invalid favorites across a number of popular characters. These favorites have been cleared.

There are most definitely still some botted favorite counts out there. We will find you, and we will purge you.

Here are some examples of pre-purge favorite counts:
(These counts will be fixed automatically once the daily task runs.)

Fern: 5.8k -> 4.9k
Roxy Migurdia: 10.5k -> 8.8k
Chika Fujiwara: 18.8k -> 15.3k
Emilia: 26k -> 17k

Not all the accounts followed the exact same characters, but they were all more or less variations of this list.

Chika probably hired the botting service and included everyone else so that she's less suspicious.

Hina from Ao no Hako on the bot list

i was really curious why AL users supposedly preferred Hina to Chinatsu by a wide margin (she was at 1.1 or 1.2k before i’m pretty sure), because the pattern is reversed on MAL (Chinatsu had more favourites). guess that clears things up lmao

I got tipped off to this botting via an email and Hina was actually the one they brought up. She had 1.9k which was definitely odd since it was 1.2k more than Chinatsu.

i’m not sure if i’m just trippin and if the numbers can verify, but at least a couple weeks ago when the series premiere aired i’m almost certain it wasn’t that high. the hypothetical increase in bot activity would correlate with the adaptation’s release, though

We don't track historical counts, so I'm not too sure. Would be neat to start collecting that, though.
