Ishuzoku Reviewers is now 2nd best anime of all time thanks to Lord Nux. Almost 15000+ account gave it 10/10 in less than 24 hours. I am glad nothing like this happened here. Don't get me wrong the show is hilarious but it is not cup of tea for everyone.
I feel sorry for MAL mods. I watched the video and in it Nux straight up said give it a 10/10. I know there are people who gave it genuine 10/10. But straight up telling you fan base to rate it X (Could be 0 or 10) is vote manipulation. I don't watch Nux a lot. Maybe it is joke. But he could have given Ishuzoku Reviewers a positive rating (Like other Anitubers do) and leave the mal score up to people so they rate it based on their enjoyment. This way there would be no room no vote manipulation.
What are you thoughts on this. How do someone effectively combat this kind of stuff?
it's a joke at the end of the day. i haven't seen anyone who genuinely believes it should get a 10/10, but it's funny seeing it beat steins;gate, kimi no na wa., and attack on titan.
i don't think it really counts as vote manipulation for nux (don't even know the guy) to say to vote it 10/10. sure, some people might do it because he said so, but i doubt it. i think lots of people are just jumping on the bandwagon as a pose to following nux's orders.
i do feel though that once it's finished airing scores should be reset for people to vote again. it's funny at the moment, but it won't be funny if it's still in the top 5 by the end of next season.
In his video the show sits at 7.64, which seems high still but I digress, and now it is at 9.16. Seems pretty obvious that it is just manipulation, just like when Pingu reached the very top.
It's kinda obnoxious behaviour, even if the score will eventually even out. Atleast Pingu was just wholesome.
I saw it and I just can't find the joke in it. Is it funny cause it will become #1 after funimation dropped it? The annoying part are the people that create new threads the whole time flaming how childish it is and on the otherside the people that are creating troll threads.
F for the mods that need to find a solution now. I mean manupulating is one minor thing since its just users voting for an anime which is then #1 but it doesn't really mean anything. But the bad part are all the idiots that are creating new accounts to either up or downvote the anime or other anime to boost its spot.
My solution would be to just let them troll and after a week I would just reset all ratings on the anime

It's MAL and they don't give a shit, so they won't. Simple as that.
speaking generally anyone who just brainlessly does what some youtuber tells them, "as a joke" or not, is someone whose opinion on anything and everything should be ignored. So in the broader scheme of things, I wouldn't worry too much about it.
It's MAL and they don't give a shit
I get it MAL is shit. But what annoys me is that it is usually the first result when you search an anime on Google. All new anime watcher/casual fans rely on MAL for first impression.
I was surprised when Studio Bones thanked mal for mob psycho 100 II. So not only fans but anime staff do sometimes care about mal score.
Just out of curiosity did you actually Google anime before making this claim or did you just assume it's usually the first search result? It's not the first search result. It's not the second, third, fourth, etc. It's not even on the first page. I had to got to the 5th page of the search results before MAL finally appeared. Anilist is somewhere even further back. The site that is on the first page of results is Anime News Network. Maybe you're search results are different than mine.
MAL is only relevant to people that use MAL. I watched anime for years before I even heard of them. New anime watchers and casual fans most likely won't hear about MAL unless they have some weird friend that actually thinks MAL is a good resource for anime. I think most people can agree that there are many superior websites to MAL.
Google any anime and MAL will be in top search results including the cards. I have included an example. FMAB is very popular so it has both imdb and rotten tomatoes but a lot of anime aren't on those websites.
Myanimelist traffic: https://sitechecker.pro/traffic-checker/
Edit: It doesn't let me share direct link but you can use the website to check the traffic. Myanimelist gets fair share of traffic.

To be honest is just another rating , being influenced by others person or not , the problem is that is kinda disrespectful to MAL site and the others animes on the list.
How do someone effectively combat this kind of stuff?
They will probably rewind the votes and hope it dosn't continue , of course (i hope) they will make a warning about it and try to not ruin the anime reputation , before of this all the anime had 7.something of score , and that is pretty good for an anime like this.
My final toughts :
I dont really care , i dont use MAL and here in anilist most people make their own rate systems so i gess i dont care about default rating system as well, if i need news animes to watch , i will just ask in the forum or in the feed ^^
Rewinding is one time thing. I don't know why mal hasn't develop a system to combat this. Mal is the first website that shows in google search results. Shouldn't they at least try.
Example would be don't let people rate from start. It is not that hard.
Example would be don't let people rate from start
That actually is a good idea , but they not gona do that for sure xd , why ? i dont know lol
Maybe a anti-spam ? After 1000 people rank the anime with the same score the ranking for that anime gets blocked and shows a message "The ranking system for this anime , is currently blocked due to spam, you wil be able to rank this anime in a few hours"
What are you thoughts on this.
i do not see any reason to even remotely care, scores have always been pretty meaningless
Saying score is completely meaningless is not true. Try recommending a show that has 6 or less rating to someone. At least in my case it is very hard.
Personally I don't judge an anime by its score unless I have watched it but if I have to pick what should I watch first. I generally go for higher score.
Scores here are way better than Mal. However Mal is more popular and shows up first in Google search results. So yeah. Unfortunately a lot if people might rely on that as a first impression.
MAL scores are a joke to being with, even the mods there a joke tbh, glad I give up on that site and went to anilist where everything in general is much better, I actually log on my account and gave it a 10 prior to Nux's video, just to stick the middle finger to funimation, but overall people are being overdramatic, maybe by next season it will still be in top 10 or so, but in 1 year time it will be reset to normal tough it should still be in top 100 with all that boost
Botted scores should be deleted, non-botted scores should not. Add an algorithmic rule where an account's vote isn't contributing to the average if the account isn't at least 30 days old, and maybe also add an algorithmic rule where the same happens if the account has less than 50 titles rated. If that doesn't solve the problem (and it probably wouldn't completely), then let the meme be.
It's just comes down to pettiness, really. As if Funimation cares about a bunch of people spam rating an anime that they dropped with 10's with their fake accounts on a website that they couldn't care less about. They really shouldn't care about a MAL score at all, since it doesn't affect them lol. At the end of the day, I find it kind of childish and it makes every other score on MAL look meaningless (more so than it already is, that is). I understand that people are upset that Funimation dropped it; that I get. But this isn't the way to go about letting them know. If you really want to let them know, then stop buying their monthly subscription and watch elsewhere. But spam rating on MAL solves quite literally nothing, and makes a mockery of the animes that actually deserve to be rated that high (like FMA Brotherhood, Steins;Gate, HxH, Gintama, Attack on Titan S3 P2, Your Name, etc... You know? Like non-mediocre animes?). The fact that people are giving the actually good animes 1's as a means to raise Interspecies' ranking is just the icing on the cake. Hopefully MAL solves it soon. But all this does is create more work for the MAL mods, and that I cannot support.
I know I'm way too late to join this.. but you know MAL could handle this much better than blaming other people
Nuxtaku as he said "it's just for the memes" and he said he wants to be friend with MAL
MAL could reply them with a positive way and join the "meme" crowds, but nope. Instead they're playing the victim card "Poor Volunteers". Now lots of people knew that MAL is exploiting volunteers while they get all the profits
In the end, there's nothing wrong with using MAL for giving your personal score just like the site intended
