Doesnt it feel like a mix of tokyo ghoul and a little bit of death note?
Highly rated for me
It's decent, but I don't get what you mean with the Death Note stuff. Personally, I found the show really enjoyable, but there were a lot of issues with it too that means I can't give it that high of a rating
Misa and Shuka being the MC'c L.I. they're both a little crazy and do anything for MC; Gothic style fashion
Kaname and Kaneki (post transformation) have similar Styles: Black and white; with Kaname being older
I like it in general, although I wish there was more gore. I dont know how to feel about the pacing though
Personally I found it ok-ish.
I wouldn't recommend anyone watching it unless they're really into the battle royale kind of style.
But I think the anime fails to explain us why some things are the way they are, and I felt like I was left to watch 11 episodes of fighting without really knowing why I was watching the fights other than "yeah, it's because of the game".
And the entire "regular citizens that don't play D game just act as if nothing is wrong when people are dying left and right with weird ass pixels art" was way too unreasonable for me.
Well, not knowing what the game is all about is lierally one of the main plot points. They want to find out why the game exist, what it goals are and then finish it to bring it to an end.
11 episodes just don't carry that.
The "regular citizens are behaving weird" part is also not explained in the anime, although in the manga you will know a bit more. Citizens clearly realize that weird stuff is happening, but how d-game works, people that would come in direct contact with it will get brainwashed and leave.
In the manga there is also a police officer / detective that is really important who did not make it in the 11 episodes (although i could understand it if they revise that later).
Overall I have to say, for me, as someone who is reading the manga (im somewhere around chapter 50 from currently 80 or so) the adaptation was pretty satisfying. Although a few minor things were changed and a few major things were left out it was actually pretty close to the source material. I could clearly recognize panels from the manga in some shots, and that was pretty cool to see. I'm also happy that it probably gets continued, I've waited a long time for this adaptation. If you are reading the manga you should definitely give it a shot.
Actually, I do agree with you.
I feel like the people who are reading the manga know a good handful of information we mere anime watchers don't know, so they get to experience the anime in a way people who haven't read the manga before watching the anime don't.
The 11 episodes didn't really impact me to the point of checking the parent manga either, but that's more on personal preference than anything.
YES you hit it right on the head. it's like if you mixed re:zero and tokyo ghoul together and diluted it a bit with water. really it was a good watch. and whats-his-name the mc is cute. what more can you ask for?
also, it had some hot takes at the end. yknow when the speedy guy (i think) is fighting on of the bad guys and says "you used to be a great martial arts fighter until you accidentally killed a guy and dropped off the scene" and bad guy says "yeah i was so depressed and felt terrible about it till bad guy leader (who's name i dont remember) came up to me and was like You only feel bad about killing someone bc you've only killed one person and if you kill more you'll feel better, and turns out he was right." like tbh bad guy leader aint completely wrong, like he's sadistic but he's got a pijnt, you can desensitize yourself to anything if you do it enough.
aaaaaand at the very end when mc finds his friend chopped up in the box and shoots a subordinate of bad guy leader the minute he starts talking and mc says "you were getting on my nerves" like???!!! that was a whole 180 they were building up for. and they didnt even try to rationalize it (like tokyo ghoul) imo bc the last scene where they're all in black making their own posse.
anyway apologies for long comment I'm very passionate about this
It was a typical death game. I don't remember much honestly but the pacing was bad. Given it had 11 episodes it was either gonna get rushed or the series leaves off on a cliffhanger with no season 2. This series was most likely a promotion to pick up the manga. A lot are like that sadly.
There was also a lot of competition in winter 2020 so it got overlooked. It happens :/
It's definitely a fairly popular show. I have read the manga, and what the anime adapted (it got shit later) was actually fairly good source material. However, it was poorly paced, with only the first and last episode being good imho, and nothing was particularly noteworthy in the series. Just a mid show.
The main reason that nobody talks about it is likely because it's very forgettable, due to the aforementioned lack of uniqueness in the series.
