Recommendations for the more serious/mature or more adult type of romance series/movies! <( ̄︶ ̄)>
(not the typical kiddy romcom)
Not anime, but has nice level headed kids in a relationship (or trying too).
Machidakun no Sekai
14sai no Koi
Kinda difficult to recommend cuz typical romance is either heavy comedy or drama, and you seem to want more of strong characters in a laid back romance, slice-of-lifey-ish? Machida-kun is definitely a must, hope you find more of what you desire.
@Smosism Thanks for the recs!
Yeah the mature type of romance. Not the type where the mc's actually never fall in love lol.
Since we're in the topic, as people said already, Josei is probably the best tag for you (although some of them are quite promiscuous with weak female leads). If you don't mind LGBTQ topics, this is one of those coming of age manga that offers a very mature view about relationships, friendships and just growth in general:
Hourou Musuko
You see the kids growing from middle school all the way up to college, and although the manga itself is not romance centered, it has great romantic moments (anime is yell adapted, but it basically picks from the middle of the manga and ends in the middle of the manga).
Also cute movie:
Tamako Love Story (prob need to watch the comedy anime/prequel before this fantastic closing piece)
I would highly recommend looking through the Josei tag: anilist.co/search/anime?genres=Josei&genres=Romance
It's geared towards older women, so a lot of the tag will be mature stories.
Specifically, try:
Yojouhan Shinwa Taikei
Higashi no Eden
@casivea Thank you for the recs! Will definitely look using the tag thanks!!
Not really sure what you're considering a "serious romance", because Bunny Girl Senpai is 100% a romcom, but here are some more serious romance shows:
Your Name
InSpectre
^^^Definitely more comedy, but when it's not making jokes it's really serious,
Charlotte
^^^Not primarily romance by any means, but romance is still there, and the actual story is extremely serious.
@crazydiamondo lol what i meant is the more mature romance stuff. But thank you for the recs.
...mature... romance... ay?
Berserk leans out from around the corner
lmaoo I've never read or watched Berserk but i know exactly what you mean!
Everyone knows. Poor Berserk has a bad rep, but it's really good as long as you can take the rape scenes (which actually die down a lot later on). I'd recommend reading it, but if you don't want to deal with the rape then you can just watch it. They have to cut that stuff out since they broadcast it on TV, but that does mean that you end up missing quite a bit, because strong story elements get cut out.
Yeah I know he gets raped like in the first few chapters lol. I think I would rather read the manga since it’s so raw!
Each romance recc thread where I have to bring up KareKano my faith in this community lessens.
@Lumpy ahh thank u thank u ╰(◡‿◡✿╰) i put in my planning list
I'm surprised no one's said SING "YESTERDAY" FOR ME which is currently airing and is probably the most down-to-Earth romance I've seen.
SING YESTERDAY FOR ME
His and Her Circumstances is probably the premiere serious romance anime. It still has a fair bit of comedy, but if you're looking for development in relationships and realistic characters, then look no further than KareKano. Hideaki Anno of Evangelion fame directs, so that's another plus.
Finally, there's Scum's Wish which is extremely dramatized in its depiction of romance, but if you want an anime that tells you that love hurts, I'd highly recommend this show.
Scums Wish
@Pockeyramune919 Sing Yersterday for me looks like its going to be a banger so im waiting for it to finish so i can binge it lol !! Thank You
Just keep in mind that there are six more episodes after the listen twelve. I'm not sure if they'll be streamed weekly or all at once, but we'll know come the airing of the twelfth episode.
@Pockeyramune919 Thanks for the heads up! (^ー^)
Yojouhan Shinwa Taikei
Byousoku 5 Centimeter
Tenki no Ko
Jumyou wo Kaitotte Moratta Ichinen ni Tsuki Ichimanen de
And if you don't mind a fair share of sex scenes, Close as Neighbours is very good but unfortunately not listed on Anilist.
@RobertNSD Thank you! These are totally new to me thanks for these. Will def checkout!
