How did people like the first episode?
I enjoyed it a lot. The music was pretty on point and the scene where the Barbatos arrived made me grin like an idiot. I also really liked the apparent focus on ballistic and physical weaponry over beams, but who knows, maybe they'll swap that mace for a beam saber by the end.
I was hesitant about watching but after the first episode I am excited for next weeks episode. Like you said the music was on point and I also really liked that it wasn't all lasers and beam weapons all over the place. One really minor/dumb thing that I was happy about was that chubby character in the cast wasn't ridiculously designed.
Only thing about this episode that felt off to me was Biscuit's voice at first, but I got used to it later in the episode.
I think there's a lot of potential to this series. I was expecting something that vibes more with 08 MS Team and while I don't think Tekketsu no Orphans is going to do that, I still think it'll get the job done as a "realistic" Gundam, if you will.
Also, that new MAN WITH A MISSION track is fucking sick.
Speaking of, I totally find it hilarious that they pilot their mobile thingies shirtless. (But yay, guy fanservice!)
Seeing that they're orphans and in a military base they wouldn't waste money on shirts that have holes in them or ruin shirts (maybe low supply?) by cutting holes in them just so the characters to plug themselves in the mecha with a shirt, however...
that changes when they go into space.

Orga and Mika’s past is very intriguing, as is their dynamic.
Yeah, the space oppression plot it set up seemed pretty standard so far, but the relationship of the two mains has some potential to be interesting I think. Orga strikes me as a bit of a schemer, or maybe using Muscle Shota to do his dirty work and it kind of gives me Guts / Griffith vibes.
I feel like the prying princess will do some digging into their background though, she seems pretty eager to get to know the lower class.
