Quite a few people I've noticed are able to binge watch/watch episodes en masse. I experience the opposite, where one-two episodes are the daily cap for me, especially if the episodes (or upcoming ones) have a lot of emotional content, ie. feels.
Does anyone else have similar experiences? I've never been into TV, so I'm not sure if this is a common occurrence.
I wouldn't quite call it "anime anxiety" in my case, but similar to your experiences, I can only watch a few episodes a day, due to multiple reasons. The main reason is of course, that it collides with my schoolwork and thus when I'm watching, I feel like I'm wasting time, but secondly, I simply can't look at screens that long. It just bothers me, or maybe irks with my eyesight. I also hardly ever watch TV and when I watch movies, I can't sit still because one movie is an extremely long time period for me. Thank all the spiritual deities for those 50 minute anime movies.
I really have issues with sitting down and just watching something for long periods of time. Yeah sure, if I have guys over or whatever its a different story, but just watching anything on your own just suit me anymore. Maybe one or two episodes before heading off to sleep but thats it.
Also, anime is more of a pain in the ass than actual entertainment, I come home from Uni usually with a headache and tired and the last thing I want to do is watch some shitty anime where nothing happens. Its a waste of time, only serves to annoy me further and I can't do any uni work after it because I'm still tired. Maybe I'm burnt out by anime, but to be honest, I'd rather just play some video games.
Unless it's airing, I don't really have a set schedule, so it depends on what I have to watch and how interested I am. It's entirely random. Sometimes I will end up not watching anime for weeks, other times find my self staying up late a tonight finishing, or binge watching the series in a day or two, and some weeks I literally watch a couple of episodes every day. Generally that only happens if I find the show really interesting, otherwise I watch it at my leisure. Airing shows are obviously excluded from this cause there is only one episode each week, so you can't really binge watch it.
It's kind of bombastic, but whenever I fell like watching it, I watch it.
I mean I have several anime I started months ago, and haven't seen an episode of it in months.
What forces you to stop watching after one or two episodes I wonder?
"especially if the episodes (or upcoming ones) have a lot of emotional content, ie. feels." Hmm, are you scared that you cannot handle it? Just guessing...
I don't prefer watching one-two episodes a day because I forgot some of the plot the next day and I will feel disconnected with the characters. I would rather just try find times where I can go on a 12 episodes marathon instead of 1-2 episodes a day.
I did experience similar experiences though, because of my eye problems and sometimes schoolwork pressure, I had to stop after 1-2 episodes.
My whole issue is that I for some stupid reason took a break from watching airing shows. For 4 seasons. So now if I want to watch anything recent, I have the need to actually complete things from a year ago. I usually watch between 9 and 12 shows a season, capping at 15. That's between 36 and 51 shows, between 432 and 612 episodes, between 9504 and 13464 minutes of anime. The pure thought of that alone makes me not want to do it.
Time and necessities that require my attention are my only obstacles. ;)
If I were to have a streak of three days off through which total introversion would be allowed, I could watch anime for about 30 hours all together. The main reason is that such openings occur extremely rarely for me -- I'm really busy these days. So, squeezing out as much as possible goes without saying!
I used to have experiences like those when I started watching anime many years back. I think you will get used to it as time goes on, I guess they call that becoming less sensitive to drama? I wonder...
Anyhow, nowadays the only obstacles I see is homework. If it wasn't for those filthy essays, I would be watching anime all day. I recommend watching different genres, maybe comedy shows to lighten things up. It really helps to watch something comedic when you are getting the feels.
Ah, I feel the same way. I also can't read too much manga on a day, unless it is psychological or slice of life.
The reason for me is that I can't stand the tension. This sounds awfully childish probably, but I feel terribly embarrassed whenever a character makes a stupid mistake in front of the person they like, or in other tension-packed situation like a character breaking in and sneaking around in someone's house. I simply can't take it for too long.
Pretty stupid, right? I can watch people getting chopped up in a grotesque way just fine, but as soon as there's any kind of awkwardness involved, it makes me feel like I want to crawl into a hole myself.
When I started working this definitely became a problem with me. I can't watch something that requires 100% of my attention when I can only use 50% of my brain when i'm so deadbeat tired. Its also hard to relax and just binge on watching stuff when you have places to be and things to do the next day, you can't stay up all night.
That being said coffee and tea are your best friends, moreso than anime will ever be.
First of all, can I be super creepy and say that I looked at your profile and I saw you're going to uni in MO and I'm from Missouri? B) Three hours away from MU, but close-ish nonetheless. :D
Second off, since I'm a college student, unless I'm REALLY willing to let my classes suffer, I usually only watch a few episodes a day, possibly none if I'm busier than I can handle. I binge on weekends though, I've binge-watched anime since I found out that Sailor Moon was on youtube when I was like 11.
Like many others though, I usually get bored after too long, especially if the anime has little to no stakes (slice of life anime are some of my favorites, but in bite-sized pieces). If something is ESPECIALLY enthralling, though, most recently being Akuma no Riddle, I burst through that thing in one night. (I love cliffhangers but don't have the patience to live through them).
IMPOSSIBLE. No one from the internet lives in Missouri! Are you in KC? And if profile stalking is creepy.. then I may be beyond redemption at this point...
Now that I think about it, I was able to binge watch a lot more back in HS, but in university, that's when it became more of an ordeal.
When you say you get bored, is that more just from the act of having to watch for a long duration, or because the anime itself gets boring?
Nope, Springfield, actually. Our murder rates are on a continuous incline! :D (But I really want to move to KC!) Seriously though, you're like the first person in any anime community I've ever seen that lives in MO. XD
Usually it gets boring; I do other things (homework, online shopping, etc.) when I watch anime on my laptop during the week usually unless I'm REALLY into it, so I might get distracted enough and completely stop watching and having to turn it back multiple times because I'm missing major plot points. And then I just kind of finish the episode I'm on and turn it off.
That's why my undivided-attention binge-watching weekends are sacred times to me.
Yep, becoming an adult is really boring. And takes away from hobbies. B(
Ah I haven't been to Springfield yet (only been in MO for a few years). Is the crime there really that bad? All I've heard about is how crappy St. Louis is haha. Unfortunately Mizzou has no anime club, so this is the closest thing I have to go with.
So you can binge watch, just when the time is convenient ^^
Being an adult is whatever you want it to be :D, but classes def eat up so much time..
We have a pretty high murder rate per capita on a national scale. Petty crimes are a pretty big thing here too, like theft is super high. XD
I'm kind of shocked Mizzou doesn't have an anime club or SOMETHING because it's so darned huge. I mean, you would figure they would have every niche group possible.
Yes, I can (and do) binge watch when time is convenient. Otherwise I just kind of casually watch stuff and save anime I really want to watch for my bingeing sprees. B)
Welp note to self: be careful when in Springfield.
I did some digging and it seems they had an anime club/group in the past, but it disbanded 2-3 years ago. From the pictures it seemed a bit awkward/cringe qq. Does your uni do any anime related stuff?
