Gon Freecss from Hunter X Hunter
Nothing he has done really impressed me. I can see him as a very happy go lucky kid with talent and passion for adventure but that is very common in protagonists in anime. His abilities are simplistic and nothing too exciting. His child like nature is definitely one of his strong points but can be annoying. He has done a few exciting things but other characters just out shine him a lot. Including the villains.
Totally agree with this. Hunter x Hunter is already my favorite show of all time but if the main character was a bit cooler and stronger like Killua I would like this show even more. Gon + Killua is the god combo of a friendship bond tho ngl, I'm sure if it wasn't gon I would say the same but still lol.
What's fascinating about Gon is that he has absolutely no moral compass. To him, his friends are good, and those who try to hurt his friends are bad. That is all he knows and that is how he sees the world. That's why he's able to get along with Killua, despite the fact that he comes from a family of assassins. Iirc, he befriends a thief or con artist during the Yorknew arc too. In his eyes, people are considered good if they are nice to him and his friends. Which makes Gon very different from the average shounen protagonist, since characters like Naruto are inherently good and have a moral compass that shows them how to do the right thing, while Gon does not have this.
Gon is the representation of human hypocrisy. The masterful approach taken to this by Togashi is shown by the subtlety used in its depiction and the lack of magnanimity in which this character dwells. The juxtaposition between right and wrong within Gon drives the plot forward to reach the epitome of character writing, the apotheosis of the manga MC. Togashi’s unbridled capacity of depth creation in his characters is displayed so elegantly yet so perfectly intrinsically ingrained in the narrative.
you think Naruto is good?
what've you been drinking my man, he simps for Sasuke so hard, but the man joined ISIS and has blood on his hands, Naruto is just as bad at morality as Gon, the show just doesn't spell it out to you, he'll forgive anyone that kind of shows some part of them to be good, even if they're mass murderers, Naruto's moral compass is FUCKED UP and childish.
