I'd love to forget about Code Geass. Not to rewatch or anything, I just want that shit out of my memory
As for what I'd like to watch for the first time again, probably Haruhi so I can watch it in the correct fucking order.
I despise anyone that puts it out in chronological order, because that straight up ruins the fucking show in almost every single way. If it was meant to be watched like that, it would have been broadcast like that, but it wasn't so fucking with that means fucking with the way it was intended to be viewed and you are dampening your experience for the sake of convinence. It's by no means a masterpiece, but it becomes a complete mess of pacing and thematic exploration if viewed this way, where the climax of the entire show happens in episode 6 with almost zero thematic or dramatic buildup to it.
Then why is Code Geass on your favorites :D
brilliant ideas, great political throughlines, but it was just fucking awful to watch, the pacing sucked ass, the animation was sloppy at best and so many things were just over the top edgy or just plain stupid. It's at best like a 3 or a 4 out of 10, but like I said, it had some brilliant ideas, a banger OP and some incredibly intricate and interesting, if flawed in execution, politics.
It's also literally metal gear, the anime so theres that. I did drop season 2 though because it was just way too shit for me to continue, even though I desperately wanted to see how it'd end, especially now that I know how it ends, but even that isn't enough to get me to watch any more of that hot garbage.
You know that code geass season 2 had to be rewritten from scratch because their time slot change? Though I don't know when did you watch Code Geass but the animation for the most part is fine. Though I will admit there were a lot of plot convenience in Code Geass and drama for the sake of drama.
If I rewatch it I might give it a 7/10 maybe 6/10.
I saw Code Geass about a month ago, and R2 shortly afterwards, although I dropped it around episode 10. I had heard some things were changed, but that still doesn't change the fact that what I saw was aboslutely awful. Starting the entire plot over from scratch for literally no reason (as it gets handwaved after less than 3 episodes) during the highest point of tension in the series is an outright stupid desicision regardless of why it was made. I'd have rather they just didn't make a second season for however long it took for them to come up with something that wasn't utterly and dumbfoundingly stupid. Top that off with every second shot placing the camera conviently behind someones ass that also happens to be bent at just the right angle, and that would've been more than enough grounds to drop the show on the very first episode. But it just kept getting worse and worse to the point where it genuinely ruined parts that I had enjoyed about the first season purely by measure of me watching the second season.
I really don't want to waste my time ranting about it, since plenty of people love it so very much and I really would hate to take that away from people. Everyone is entitlted to their own opinions on things, and I'm not going to tell people they have to see it my way, but certainly I couldn't stand watching it any more than I did. Again, it's on my favourites for pretty much two reasons alone, 1: it had some great ideas and a very intricate political plot that was at least half-way done well, and 2: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7p8oa1p0K4o
TL;DR just because something is in my favourites doesn't mean I think it is good, just that I liked something in it more than any other show
I wonder if the remakes actually improved stuff because I have heard that NGE remake did improve characters. Especially Ayanami.
If it was meant to be watched like that, it would have been broadcast like that, but it wasn't so fucking with that means fucking with the way it was intended to be viewed and you are dampening your experience for the sake of convinence.
THANK YOU.
Every time I recommend a series like Haruhi or Monogatari I always have to specify that they should be watched in release order first. Just like you said, the fact that they were broadcast / produced in the order they were is because that's how they were intended to be experienced!
