I can't find a thread about this on here. I've heard that some people have released an edited version of One Piece which shall not be named (probably why I couldn't find anything) and that its a good way to get through it more quickly. Is it recommended for someone with less patience, or did the guys over there totally butcher it?
The thing that you are referring to is called One Pace. It is a fan-made edited version of One Piece anime because Toei is bad at their job—they get rid of all non-canon material; however, it isn't the best experience for people who are watching it for the first time. Most people who watch on one pace use it for the second, third... times. The anime is just an experience that can't be replicated. If you want the best experience read the manga but if you only like anime skip all the filler episodes(besides the filler at 196-206).
Right now seeing as you are around chapter 600. You can comfortably watch all One Piece anime movies excluding the ones after 10 (Strong World). Those remeaning four you can watch after at some point in the timeskip. Personally, I would recommend watching them after having seen all of the anime or when you are caught up in the manga. Either is fine. Then you don't have to worry and can watch whenever you want.
The movies are not canon, they might have some elements that could be but in the grand scheme of things. You are not missing anything major which Oda won't already show in the original story. If you are enjoying One Piece, the movie adds more fun and more elements you know and adore from One Piece. The best way to go about it is by watching them after being fully caught up. That's my suggestion. There are some specials you can skip that just recaps, but here are the order to watch them in as well as what I recommend to watch. I will not be including any specials I don't deem worthy.
When it comes to movies, I would at least recommend watching the 4th, 6th, 8th (a different spin of drum kingdom) where Robin and Franky are already present. I also highly recommend the episode of Nami and Merry. They are cut-down versions of the high notes in the East Blue and Water7 saga. It's a ton of fun. But you cannot watch these before having gone through the actual arc in the anime or the manga as it cuts out a lot of parts.
Let me also give a special mention to an episode of Skypiea. This is absolute trash. I don't recommend watching it, nor it to be used as a substitution for the actual skypiea, I don't recommend doing this to any recap specials. This is meant for all of you who are going in with that silly mindset "when does it get good", "its too long". Better yet don't watch or read it at all if you are going to resort to that silly mindset. One PIece is the journey, not the endgame. It's an emotional shounen that will only pay off for those who decided to invest their time into it.
Other than all movies, starting from 10 (Strong World) to 14 (Stampede) is totally worth it. You can watch Strong World already now. As for Film z, you can check it out after you hit the New World. Heart of Gold and Film Gold can you watch after Dressrosa. At last, Stampede is fine once you are done with the major arc in the latter half of the 800s. I hope this clears it all up ^^

(Keep in mind this is in chronological order, for any cases where the episode order may not go in numerical order (Going from episodes 878-894 to 897 and then later going back to 895-896) this is for a better chronological order. However it should be noted that the whole crew being together in Film Gold can't really be placed anywhere else than it is already placed, due to us knowing it takes place after Dressrosa but before Zou even though the whole crew isn't together at the time. So the placement will stay as of now.)

So i have decided to watch one piece. But the thing is, it has so many specials and movies, which i think are tied to the anime that makes me wonder, in which order should i watch these?
I know the best way to watch it is in the order of release, but the anime is not broken off in seasons, so it is hard to know which episodes released when, and when to watch the specials, and where the movie comes in.
Currently my plan is to watch till episode 500, then watch all the specials and movies that released before 2010, then do it again after reaching 1000 for all the movies and specials so far.
Or is there a better method out there?
The specials, movies, and even filler arcs all vary greatly in quality. Instead of watching all of them, I recommend doing some research and finding the ones worth watching.
For what it's worth, my opinion is that most filler is very skippable, except for the 'G8' arc.
https://www.animefillerguide.com/2019/06/one-piece-filler-list.html This will tell you exactly which episodes and even which minutes of certain episodes are filler and therefore mostly useless to the plot.
As for movies, I know GrandLineReview (a popular One Piece YouTuber) gets some flack around these parts, but this video is a good guide to find out which are worth spending your time on.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bCSTHgJiiY8
The movie order and when to watch them is described in a Quora answer, which you can find here:

I hope that helps!
This is the one piece filler list:
https://animefillerlist.net/one-piece-filler-list/
The G-8 filler (ep. 196-206) is the best filler there is, you definitely should watch it.
Movies:
These are the older ones and they aren't all that good. I like some of them, but you can skip them. None of them are canon as far as I know.
OP 1 - One Piece Movie
OP 2 - One Piece Nejimaki Jima no Bouken
OP 3 - One Piece Chinjuushima no Chopper Oukoku
OP 4 - One Piece Dead End no Bouken
OP 5 - One Piece Norowareta Seiken
OP 6 - One Piece Omatsuri Danshaku to Himitsu no Shima
OP 7 - One Piece The Movie Karakurijou no Mecha Kyohei
These are retellings of arcs, so you can skip them or the arcs themselves, but I suggest you definitely watch the anime:
OP 8 - One Piece Episode of Alabasta Sabaku no Oujo to Kaizokutachi
OP 9 - One Piece Episode of Chopper Plus Fuyu ni Saku Kiseki no Sakura
Here are the better ones that I think you should definitely watch:
OP 10 - One Piece Film Strong World
my personal favourite OP movie
OP 11 - One Piece Film Z
OP 12 - One Piece Film Gold
OP 13 - One Piece Stampede
These you should definitely not bother with:
One Piece 3D Mugiwara Chase
One Piece 3D Gekisou Trap Coaster
The Long Ring Long Land Arc (ep. 303-321) is NOT filler, but it sure does act like one and you should skip it. You won't miss anything plot important, trust me you're better off.
Specials and OVAs:
One Piece Episode of Nami Koukaishi no Namida to Nakama no Kizuna
is again a retelling of an arc, but not complete. It's focused on the Arlong part of the East Blue arc (the first arc).
One Piece Episode of East Blue Luffy to 4nin no Nakama no Daibouken
is again a retelling of East Blue and again you can't use it as a substitute for the anime.
One Piece Episode of Sorajima
is a retelling of the Sky Island arc and you can use it as a substitute if you really want to.
One Piece Episode of Merry Mou Hitori no Nakama no Monogatari
is a partial retelling of the Water 7 arc, somewhat like movies 8 and 9. But there's no way for you to substitute this for the arc, especially since it's arguably the best arc (that and Thriller Bark)
One Piece Episode of Luffy Hand Island no Bouken
is an original story. I'd say it's somewhat good. Definitely better that most specials.
One Piece Heart of Gold
is an original story and it's set up in the anime in a few filler episodes, so it's at least anime canon. Probably the best of the specials.
These are prequels to their respective movies:
One Piece Film Z Glorious Island
One Piece Episode of Alabasta Prologue
One Piece Strong World Episode 0
This is Romance Dawn and I think it's a must watch for any fan of One Piece:
One Piece Romance Dawn Story
It's an alternative version of some of the earliest episodes. It's based on the oneshot manga, that made all of this possible. There is another version of Romance Dawn in the anime. It's episode 907.
The other specials are older and they are as good as the old movies. Watch them if you'd like, whenever you want to. Again they aren't canonical. You could argue that the latter movies are canon, but idk.
Thanks for this, i am not sure about if i want to watch the specials or not since it seems like it will be bit hard to find when to watch it, and most of it are just retelling of the arcs.
But you have helped quite a bit.
I will watch most of the movies, except the summery ones, it's better to just watch the arc than the summery of it. Also i am planning to watch all the fillers as well, just like i am watching all the fillers of Fairy Tail.
You should watch the specials. The animation is so much better. Just watch the whole anime first. You'll see that you'll love them. Same with the movies.
The Part the with the Foxy Pirates is just terrible. It starts with Long Ring Long Land and it's just so annoying and boring. I bet you won't be able to take it.
skip long ring long land? tf? it isnt filler, so you shouldnt skip it. it's oda bruh, he's probably got something in store for later in the story to do with certain parts in LRLL ahem davy back fight. either way, its an experience, dont skip even if it is bad.
I did say it's not filler, DIDN'T I? Yeah. Skip it. It's the worst thing in anime that I've seen. It's Oda's filler, bruh. He has nothing in store for the Foxy Pirates. You don't know what you're even saying, you're so delusional. Check your temperature.
make your mind up fool, is it filler or not?
i'll answer: it isn't filler, therefore DON'T skip it. Oda wouldn't have it in the story for no reason, as we've seen time and time again how he intertwines itty bits from early One Piece into modern One Piece. I have a feeling that the whole davy back fight portion of LRLL is gonna be relevant in later One Piece, perhaps a davy back fight will happen between Luffy and another important crew? Who knows?
Besides, it's only 12 episodes. It's bearable.
None of them are essential to the plot obviously, but I choose to watch them because most of them are pretty fun. Here is the chronological watch order of everything. https://www.epicdope.com/how-to-watch-one-piece-easy-watch-order-guide/#3-Chronological-Order
none of them are canon but some movies are good, the guy earlier sent some links so you should follow those.
Those starting with "Episode of" are just retellings of the story but with the modern art-style (not wano tho). I suggest watching all of them with words that you recognise (East Blue, Nami, etc,) thought people don't like the Alabasta one.
It's a good idea to watch Episode of East Blue and Nami after you've seen the East Blue Saga, you don't have to watch them right after but the visuals are really good, of course you could just watch the fights on youtube.
DO NOT search this one up before you've seen up to 516, but 3D2Y is a good one to see, especially right before the timeskip (517). Also don't watch the post-credits scene it's a spoiler for something that doesn't happen until way later.
G8 is a nice filler arc. Baron Omatsuri is a good movie. Maybe try out the recap movies as well.

You can view the merged thread's body below:
Episodes:
1-30 (Romance Dawn, Orange Town, Syrup Village, and Baratie Arc): Of course you have to watch these arcs because these are the episodes where we are introduced to our main characters.
One Piece Movie 1: For the first movie, it's pretty good.
31-45 (The Arlong Park Arc): The first major arc in the franchise (and my personal favorite arc). If you didn't enjoy One Piece up to this point then this is the arc that will change your mind. Nami's backstory is tragic and showed me, at least, how brutal and dark this show will get.
46-47 (Buggy Filler Arc): I don't remember these episodes...SKIP
48-53 (Lougetown Arc): The thing about One Piece filler is that a lot of them are actually enjoyable, this one I liked, not to mention info about Usopp is revealed.
54-61 (Warship Island Arc): While this is a filler arc, I actually got feels from this arc. All I'm saying if you have a soft spot for pets, then you'll get feels.
One Piece Movie 2: This one is fun, worth a watch.
62-67 (The Reverse Mountain and Whiskey Peak Arc): The Reverse Mountain Arc maybe a small story but make sure you remember cause it's going to be important later. Whiskey Peak is where we meet the honorary Strawhat, Vivi.
68-69 (Coby and Helmeppo): Coby and Helmeppo train and get buff, there I saved you an hour.
70-78 (Little Garden Arc): This is where we get introduced to the One Piece lore that are the Giants.
79-91 (Drum Island Arc): This arc is where we are introduced the adorable Doctor of the Strawhat Crew, Tony Tony Chopper.
One Piece Movie 3: This one is good, not great but good.
92-135 (Alabasta Arc): The Second Major Arc in the franchise. The villain of this one is Crocodile and is probably the best of all of One Piece in the sense of how devious he is. This is an arc that you better watch. Not to mention this is where we meet Robin and Luffy's Brother Ace.
136-143 (Goat Island and Rainbow Mist Arc): These are two filler arcs which is up to the viewer whether to skip or not. On the one hand, it's an entertaining arc, but in terms of actual events, nothing really happens.
144-152 (The Jaya Arc): A lot of major character development happens in this arc, so definitely watch it.
One Piece Movie 4: This is where the quality of the movies start going from just good to very good and I mean very good.
153-195 (Skypiea Arc): The third major arc in the franchise. Honestly, my biggest problem about this arc is that while it's an important arc, I feel bad for it because minimal things are heard from again...yet.
One Piece Movie 5: This movie is a little confusing but it's still pretty damn good.
196-206 (The G-8 Arc): I like this filler arc, it was fun and has a lot of great moments.
207-219 (The Long Ring Long Land a.k.a. The Davy Back Fight Arc): This arc...while fun to watch...damn is Foxy an annoying villain.
220-224 (Ocean's Dream Arc): It's a filler, but it's not bad. In fact, it actually refreshes on the series at this point, so it's worth a watch.
One Piece Movie 6: This movie takes One Piece in a completely different direction. The story is dark by One Piece standards and the animation looks nothing like One Piece. So you would think that a movie like this would be the worst right.................it's my favorite of the One Piece movies. I seriously like the dark turn it takes and the animation while sloppy is unique. Not to mention, it's directed by Mamoru Hosoda (the director of Summer Wars and The Girl Who Leapt Through Time). WATCH THIS MOVIE!
227-263(Water 7): Wait where's 225-226? It's Foxy Filler skip it. Anyway, Water 7 is where a lot major event happen and oddly enough it's not the major arc of the franchise. This is where we are introduced to Franky.
One Piece Movie 7: To me this the weakest of the One Piece movies, not to mention all the Gainaxing (TV Tropes look it up)
264-325 (Enies Lobby): This the fourth major arc in the franchise and the one where you will cry in this show the most. I'm not joking. Out of all the animes I have watched in my life, I have cried more in this arc than anything else. Another thing, there are FIVE recap episodes, automatic skip, and there Edo-Period episodes where One Piece is alternatively set in that period.
One Piece Movie 8: Don't bother, it's the Alabasta Arc with the updated art.
326-336 (Ice Hunter Arc): Eh, this arc is filler and is skippable. It's not bad, it's just meh. Do watch the Chopperman episode, that's funny.
337-381 (Thriller Bark): The fifth major arc (?). I can't really tell if this a major arc, I guess you can, but anyway this is where we are introduced to Brook. By the way, remember how I said remember the Reverse Mountain Arc ;)
One Piece Movie 9: Okay so this is a recap movie except with a twist. It retells the Drum Island arc except what if Franky, Robin, and the Thousand Sunny happened first.
382-384 (Spa Island Arc): This is a filler arc, which is the pool party arc and OH NO! FOXY!? DAMNIT! This filler is skippable.
385-421 (Sabody Archipelago and Amazon Lilly Arc): This arc is where everything changes, but I can't call it a major arc. In this arc, the Strawhats are disbanded, but it leaves Luffy to do his own thing which you find out.
426-One Piece Movie 10: Yes there are episodes that actually accompany this movie. People love this movie the best out of One Piece movies, yet while I love it too, Movie 6 is still my favorite, but that's just my taste. Definitely watch this one though.
422-489 (Impel Down and Marineford Arc): This is the sixth major arc in the franchise. Now in this arc, there are recap episodes which are skippable and their are also insight to what the other Strawhats are up to. I found the episodes with the other Strawhats to be skippable, because you get the idea of where they are and that's basically it for now with them. The real focus is on the Luffy in this arc.
One Piece 3D Movie: This movie is the first of One Piece shown with full CGI animation. I thought I was going to hate it, but I actually had fun with it. Just shows how excellent One Piece is.
490-516 (Post Whitebeard War Arc): This arc is the bridge to the time skip. There is filler, but it's important filler, to which...I actually skipped. Honestly, it's backstory to Luffy and Ace, but it reveal THAT much, but there are some things that are important...I'll watch it again someday.
THE TIME SKIP!
517-522 (Return to Sabaody Arc): Ah yes, two years later. Luffy has a giant scar, Zoro lost an eye, Usopp got buff, Sanji has facial hair, Nami and Robin got bigger breasts (Didn't even think that was possible), Franky is even more of robot, Brook changed from classic to funk music, and Chopper...he's still adorable.
523-574 (Fishman Island Arc): The first major arc in the New World...This arc...is too damn long. Personally my least favorite arc in all of One Piece. No sense of camaraderie among the Strawhats and lack of any real stand out moments aside from Tank Franky. But there are a lot of important plot threads here.
Z's Ambition Arc and One Piece Film Z: You don't need to see the episodes for the movie, they're pretty pointless. However, One Piece Film Z is a great great movie. Debatably and possibly better than Strong World. Definitely worth a watch.
579-625 (Punk Hazard Arc): Punk Hazard, an island that is half engulfed in flames and the other half in a Blizzard apocalypse inhabited by the notorious Caesar Clown. This is very good arc. There's emotional depth not to mention more relevant characters here.
629-746 (Dressrosa Arc): Luffy's fight with Doflamingo and the secret of Law's past. We see Luffy taking down the first Shichibukai of the New World, as well as some old enemies resurfacing. Exciting arc.
Heart of Gold and One Piece : Gold : It's recommended that you watch the Heart of Gold special before the movie itself, but not really mandatory. The movie was alright, it's my least favourite among the "big 3" OP movies, but still solid overall.
