So, I've always said- if a continuation of Code Geass was to ever be made taking place after R1 and R2, I would lose my shit. Not in the good way though, as many would expect a fan of a franchise to be. I'm legitimately pissed, and I would hope that those who are appreciative of this beautiful story are as well. This anime is going to destroy any impact or meaning behind R1 and R2. The story is finished; the conclusion has been made. I may decide just not to watch this sequel in attempt to salvage my liking of the story as is.
I must say: I despise people who draw out things like this in order to cash it all in via pandering. Now this is happening to my favorite anime. Go figure. haha
So now that I've got my pessimistic outlook on this out of the way, what are your thoughts on this?
2017 is going to be the year of sequels of "old" shows. I agree with your statement. I don't see why this anime need an another season.
Wait their making another season for this?
No. There's 3 movies that sort of recap the first 2 seasons with modifications on the story (can't say what, haven't watched it and i don't plan i for now). The sequel of those movies is the Lelouch of the Resurrection one.
Due to the story modifications you might need to watch those 3 recap movies to avoid misunderstandings of content that wasn't in the TV series.
I had a small convo with someone the other day about this and I would rather not have a sequel. The authors came up with the perfect ending, one of the best I have seen. It was satisfying (at least for me) and left us all thinking at the same time. The ending was open to interpretation and even theorizing. And now the fact that Lelouch is actually alive is confirmed? I liked to think he was dead, he made a plan and died for it. This sequel will probably ruin it for me. Let's hope I am wrong, because it's either going to be crap or really good so.
IDK, I watched the series this year because some friends recommended it to me, and while the setting and the story weren't particularly engaging to me, I must admit that it was very well executed and had some really exciting moments, not to mention that ending!!
I used to like the idea of Lelouch dying for his ideals, letting the people who were important to him live in peace at the cost of his own reputation, but now that it is confirmed that he's still alive, I can't help but to think this is an unnecessary addition to the main story... So yeah, I'm not even going to bother in adding the new season to my list (at least not for now).
Coming from a guy who's favorite anime ever is Code Geass, I have a mixture of anticipation and nervousness. I'm delighted that we're getting more Code Geass, I love it to death, and it'll be great to go to the world again and see the characters once more. However, the ending of R2 was so perfect. Most loose ends were tied up, and it was fitting and bittersweet ending to the series. I feel in a way they should just leave the series there. If they handle this new project well, and explain everything very well, I'll be happy, but I'm extremely nervous. Nonetheless, I will definitely be watching this.
Ok, so a lot of people have been asking me about this again, so I started to put a lot more thought into it.
Sure, the end of R2 is fantastic in the dramatic sense, but practically, the world peace Emperor Lelouch Vi Britannia created would probably only last a few months.
This being said, there would almost immediately be infighting within the new world order created and numerous power struggles. This reminds me of what occured after the fall of Alexander's empire in the 2nd and 3rd centuries BCE. If Lelouch is resurrected to deal with, more or less, his own Diadochi Wars scenario, that'd be pretty sick.
However, as always, concept is only a beginning. I have no idea as to whether or not to have faith in the execution of this.
I loved the end of season 2, it was one of my all time favorite ending(with code geass being my favorite anime, tied with FMAB). And I was scared of a second 3, but your idea is just great. It helped a lot in restoring my confidence. I want to see Lelouch working in secret again behind the scenes with only Suzaku and/or Karren knowing of his survival and his Zero Requiem plan(because in the end, we all know Karren figured everything out)!
I'm not a fan of open ended endings to things, the is he isn't he thing is basically a cop out in case they ever want to make any more of something and oh look they're going to be making more. Given that I love Code Geass' main story, I can't be mad about this but I have had my dreams crushed before by anime sequels. I still get mad at how bad Psycho Pass 2 was :(
Logically speaking, and ignoring whatever a writer has made canon etc (even if it was incredibly nebulous and open ended):
1.) Lelouch inherited VV's immortality via Charles, getting the more powerful Geass etc (which doesn't make sense, since that isn't how Code or Geass really work, idk why this theory is so pervasive- it would just be that he "died" activating Code and his immortality, completing his contract with CC)
2.) Of course you have the famous and highly debated scene where CC is talking to the wagon driver and you see him
In terms of less concrete:
3.) He doesn't seem to me to have ever been the type to just rashly throw his life away, even if he sought atonement for the terrible things he did. It'd be quite easy for him to get out of it.
Regardless of how it happened, it would seem he's still alive for R3. That or provisions for a literal resurrection are laid out.
Code Theory (what you describe in 1) says Lulouche’s geass was powerful enough to take a code, and it took the one from Charles (VV’s code). He keeps his geass because of fame from CC’s code. There’s a hell of a lot of guesswork, but we’ll have to wait for the movie and hope they explain it in better detail.
I am in a conflicted mood.
On the one hand, I am looking forward to the new plot.
On the other I am afraid that they will mess up such a perfect story.

I think the ending was perfect too, but i have no Problem with another Season. If it's trash, i'll still watch it. I don't think anything can ruin the original ending for me. Even if they mess up everything, the original Seasons where already a whole good Show, why would I feel conflicted About liking the old Show and not liking the new Season? Also, I think it's very much possible that everything will work out.
Some time ago, someone made a Sequel to "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon", one of my favourite movies. The Sequel was not only a bad movie, but it also introduced plotpoints and revelations that made all the Drama of the original one pretty much pointless logic-wise. I don't care About that Kind of stuff, i think now there's a good movie and there's a bad one and the original is still awesome.
Just because something is being continued doesn't mean that you should let that continuation ruin your enjoyment of the original. And that doesn't just apply to this, it applies to any piece of media. If you're someone who genuinely enjoyed code geass, just be cautiously optimistic for the movie and if it sucks, it sucks, and if it's good it's good. there are some cases where it's kind of hard to completely ignore a series being butchered in continuations and/or spinoffs (Fate/ with all it's alien spinoffs like apocrypha and grand order and Star Wars are pretty good recent examples of this) but at the end of the day those continuations still have no bearing on the original, even if the creator(s) go back and rewrite the original to fit new things.....
Oh, I agree. I think my first immediate reaction when this was announced was to be pretty ticked off.
After a few months, I became much more interested by some ideas floating around.
A bit later, I was back to being disappointed when it was announced that it'd be a movie.
Months later (again), it was back to enjoying the idea due to trailers and concepts etc.
After this, the recaps genuinely pissed me off too. Haha
I rewatch the Akito movies, which gave me more faith in it after that.
Much later, I'm now at a point where I'm thinking "ok, the trailers look cool, I guess" and I'm pretty much indifferent on all of this.
It's been very up and down for the last two years on this.
Ok, so I might be the ONLY one who didn't liked R2's ending.; sure it was so darn perfect if you were take the ending alone but with everything happened in the anime ; both R1 and R2; I think it kinda felt like everything Lelouch did was...well, for nothing. So I'm happy that there's a Sequel , though it's not exactly a sequel to R2, It's a sequel to "Emperor" the 3rd Movie of the Alternate Code geass Universe.
But it's fine as long as they don't change stuff too much.
