I was kinda excited about this series to be honest, but after the first episode the only thing that got through my mind was: "Well, I'm just gonna read the novel".
Is it only me or this anime just looks bad?
it's a copy of Tensei shitara Slime Datta Ken
You're flat wrong. I've read both and they couldn't be more different.
Similarities
If I sound peeved it's because I am. I want the communitites between these two series to get along but comments like this, that are completely misinformed, do not help.
There is another similarity you seem to have ignored or forgotten. The Great Sage/ Robot voiced lady who lives in the mc's mind is in this which is the same as Slime Isekai. I’m not saying that this is a copy of Slime Isekai but there are more similarities than you think.
Mmmm yes/no. It's similar but that voice is literally inside everyone's head. It's also a major point of conflict in the story, but any more than that is spoiler-territory, so I'm not commenting further. By the time you figure out what's actually going on with it, you'll realize just how different it truly is.
Kumo Desu is not a straightforward story. It will lead you astray on purpose all the time, only to reveal something that you think is a "twist" only to get twisted again by another point. It is as much a mystery as it is an action-adventure.
I am a bit hyped after your reply, I really hope it lives up to the praises you are giving it.
It is literally my favorite series of all time. I'm definitely biased to praise this series, but I've watched and read a LOT of Japanese media, a lot more than what's on my profile. I've been watching anime since 2012. To me, that means this series is something special.
If you want to leave it for a bit, I would definitely recommend picking it up after a few episodes are up to air so you can binge. It's 24 eps so it's gonna be a bit of a slow burn, but man once the story picks up it's gonna hit the ground running.
That voice is just the System mesagges.
Everyone can hear it and it just tell you that you (or one of your skills) leveled up or if you can buy a skill.
The voice reacted because Kumoko said "Appraisal" in her rant. You can't talk to the voice and it will never answer you unless you mention a skill that you can buy (No answer = Not enough Skill Points).
I don't think i've seen worse animation, every chance they get they use CG. Its just an eye sore of an anime.
Oh I've seen worse. But I think the main problem with this cg vs traditional animation is the mistake most studios do; oh we can move the camera?! let's move it constantly. Whereas if they would keep it to restricted viewing angles like traditional 2d techniques it would blend a whole lot better.
Also If you wanna see way worse animation just wait for the premier of EX-ARM lol
Here's what I liked:
- endearing protagonist, I expect that she'll be as likeable in other episodes as she was in this episode. I haven't read the LN, WN, or manga but I'm hoping she'll be similar to Maple from Bofuri
Here's what I didn't like:
- CGI isn't really my thing but I guess I'll have to get used to it. Makes the animation look cheap
Here's what I'm neutral on/don't know yet:
- The human/elf characters were cool but obviously I'm hoping most of the screentime goes towards Kumoko and other similar characters (I wouldn't mind seeing more of the baby dragon character either)
Overall? Has potential, nothing is especially terrible so far imo. I don't wanna come in a hater even though I'm biased against isekai and CGI-heavy anime
To be honest, I can't say I'm disappointed since I only really heard about this a week or so ago, but I wasn't a big fan of the first episode. It just seems to riff on a lot of overdone concepts; the hikikomori gamer being transported to a game-like universe isn't exactly original. Plus, I wasn't very entertained throughout; I don't know if the frog fight thing was meant to be exciting, but I certainly didn't find it so. If it doesn't improve within the next couple of episodes, I might drop it.
Im have a bit of a bias since I've read the LN, but I did think the first episode could have been worse. Even though they did skip some things (they may put them in future episodes depending on the pacing) its still a decent adaptation. CGI is CGI, its never gonna look as great as normal animation, but its not overlord season 3...
OP was pretty good imo.
Overall the adaptation is a 8/10 for me so far.. Hopefully they improve in later episodes.
I wasn't really expecting much from the CGI department, and a pretty good chunk of stuff was missing, but hey, that's what usually happens with adaptations, you know?
I'm just glad to see an animated adaptation of this. I'm just wondering how far they can get in 24 episodes. Seeing how episode 1 contained chapters 1 and 2 from the LN and chapters 1 and 2 from the Manga
I wasn't even going to watch this originally (pretty big phobia of spiders, and my phobia kicked in a couple times throughout), but actually found it surprisingly enjoyable. I never thought it looked terrible, but I like 3DCG, so there is that. To anyone saying it's skipping things: Good. Because the pace felt slow to me even as is.
Ngl I had so much fun watching this episode. The main character is super bubbly and energetic on top of her seriousness to survive. Idk I'm not very cultured in anime in the slightest but it just had a refreshing feel to it. I loved Reincarnated As a Slime too so I guess it makes sense bc Rimaru and Kumoku both seem to be well-rounded characters. I haven't read the novels but I'm very excited for this show if for nothing else then the pure enjoyableness of it.
Also the ED had me straight up DYING that was the most chaotic work of art I've ever seen, how someone actually came up with that is just beyond my realm of understanding
the background music when she is thinking at the start feels like an rpg game. Good job bgm people.
that's a monstrous looking deer!
brutal death for frog monster.
the human parts are terrible, annoying guy needs to die.
and lastly, the ending where she sings as a spider idol being cheered on by other spiders is hilarious. lol
looking forward to next week! :)
it's not even only a matter of it looking bad. It looked bad while making the mc exposition itself via monologue. No amount of voice acting can redeem that. It was a painfully boring episode and I caught myself wishing that I would see less of the mc at one point, but the humans are also painful. Sensei asking that guy if he is in an incestuous relationship with his sister just isn't funny. Who thinks that's funny?
Sorry for venting I just think it's a shame that what could be a funny isekai got ruined by this horrifying directing choice.
i know everyone has their preferences, but anime fans in particular tend to disparage CGI animation and for the life of me i cant figure out why. the show looks fine. it even looks great in some places. and the animation on kumoko is lively and charming. ive read the first LN, and it is really good, and i also think that the anime does it justice. im excited to see how they handle the fight scenes bc the LN has some of the best ive read in the medium
When i watched the first ep, I kept thinking of "that time i got reincarnated as a slime" but i mean both are isekais where the MC turns into a "monster" so i shouldn't really be surprised.
As for the animation, it felt kinda iffy? But it's only the first ep after all so I might stick around and see what it has to offer. If the LNs were popular enough for it to get adapted, there should be at least SOME merit to it. Am I right? :3
The OP and ED are both awful. Oh, Jesus! Don’t get me started on the ED. It’s super obnoxious and needs a seizure warning. I felt my mind melting watching it.
I didn’t expect much from this anime when I first saw the trailer but I kinda feel like dropping it after the first episode. I’ll probably give it the 3 episode treatment though. And honestly the only part I found funny about the first episode was the Oh Jesus part. I got an audible chuckle from that but nothing else.
This is terrible. The whole thing looks bad, the opening and ending themes are hideous and obnoxious and the comedy doesn't land well. This is some arifureta level of trash lmfao. At least arifureta had some good soundtrack but I see nothing good in this. Will attempt to check out the second episode but I have no hope of this picking up. What was up with that rotation shot when the MC was thinking about her skills? it was unnecessary. Only good comedy was the oh jesus english line and the father desu ka.
This is the first anime this season where I found the CGI fine (Horimiya’s ED is actually an example of good CG). Really, in comparison to Hortensia Saga and Otherside Picnic, the CG might as well be animated by Miyazaki. The stylised design of MC’s spider body works disturbingly well with the CG. I guess I’m alone in that thought, though.
I’m excited for this series. To the point that I might actually drop it and read the web novel instead. No point ruining a good series by watching a compressed advertisement. The protagonist is a touch too bubbly, though, and that dancing scene was obnoxious. It’s better than having to follow another loner who thinks he’s better than everyone else, though.
The light novel and wen novel diverges a great amount after some time, and the anime is adapting the light novels.
Yeah, no chance of a web novel receiving a direct anime adaptation.
But it’s way more effort trying to use OCR or something instead of rikaichan. Plus it’s cheaper. So I’m reading the web novel first, at least.
You don't need translators they are officially translated up to volume 10
Sorry for not explaining this earlier; I’d rather read it in Japanese to both improve my language ability and get a more unique experience.
Thanks for helping, though. Also, in Australia, Nyaa domains are blocked by ISPs. Need a VPN to get past that.
I to want to start learn japanese someday but I don't start now high-school graduation coming up april-may
