[Spoilers] Attack on Titan Final Season Episode 5 Discussion
Woooahh what an episode. Man that was so lit. Everything is just building up to this magnificent spectacle of a battle. Reiner and Eren really do be the same though, Eren is just doing what he thought was right. Damn, pretty deep.

I just finished watching it, and although other people loved it, i am kinda bummed out about some stuff.
The music choice didn't really fit well at ALL and it just straight up stops before they show him transforming. Some shots were beautiful though but il have to say that i am a tiny bit dissapointed, with the CGI Titan looking kinda off to me. Either way though, i still think it was a very good episode so i am happy for the anime-only people to be happy about it!
Now, if they adapt chapter 119-121 really well, then i'l be very, very happy, which i think is the highest point of the series, atleast for me.
Next episode preview also looks lit, the Warhammer Titan fight is going to be real fucking crazy everyone!
You are going to get trashed for that opinion by the fanbase, but that is a respectable opinion nonetheless. I was hoping for more action in this but it wasn't there, not yet anyway.
Ch 119-121 should be towards the end. Dunno if you will watch seasonally or just binge it but it will probably be lit after judgement of what ep 6 has to bring.
im also sad about the use of the CGI in the titans. i know that CGI isnt new to titan at all but i hardly ever noticed it since it was usually just practical use for when the titans are far way or in just the weapons.
but for this episode i hardly noticed the music thig so its sad to hear it was off?I think they tried replacing the action with CGI and for me, didn't really work out that well. The transformation was sick tho
yeah same. like, it looks really jarring when i see it in mappa's version because the other one didnt make the fights CGI. only the colossal titan usually, and that was just in latter seasons. but yeah that transformation was real sick
uhhh dunno but that titan was handdrawn. Also take it from the point of anime onlys (for whom the anime is actually for) if you think from their perspective the choice of music was kinda appreciable if you ask me. obviously it wasn't anything mind-blowing but just stating that
As far as i know, most anime people are satisfied, so i am happy for them and the fact that they enjoyed it. Hell, even after a rewatch, i still like the episode alot, as i think MAPPA did a good job. I'm still bummed about the music choice but il probably forget about it.
As for the titan CGI i was talking about, i am specifically talking about this one;

Quick question, does anyone think this will break Demon Slayer hype levels?
Honestly, its a big "eh". I'd say the moment for AoT is build-up very well and it has big meaning behind it, but the animation and OST used for Demon Slayer was better imo.
Honestly, at this point I do not care about OST or even that the titan was CGI at ALL! I didn't read the manga and I am massively hyped by the story! I cant wait to see how everything is resolved!
(Well most of the time I dont care about the OST tbh.. its not something which makes me rate an anime better or worse, except its awfully standing out ... Looking at you Misfit of the Demon Highschool).
I don't think it will break DS Hype levels either but not because of OST choice or animation. The scene isn't a full fledged sakuga fight like DS (It's pretty much just 3 stills) and it's the end of 4 episodes worth of build up, wouldn't have reached DS level no matter how well they did it. Next episode has the potential for it though.
I am disappointed that they didn't choose the bgm from the trailer that bgm would have been real good

I've seen complaints abt them not using the new OST but I think what they might do is show the transformation again next week and use it then so that it flows into the next scene.
I think youre right! They did that in Season 2 when Ymir transformed
When she transformed in Season 2 Episode 4 there was an ost I dont know
Then in Episode 5 of Season 2 they showed the Transformation again with YouSeeBigGirl

As I thought, anime only's loved the episode and manga readers were disappointed because their favorite OST wasn't used. It's understandable that manga readers didn't like the OST much. They were expecting something epic, and chances are they wanted it to be exactly like the motion manga we see everywhere on YouTube. And, while I didn't particularly love the OST, I do think that it was important to have it. If YOUSEEBIGGIRL was used, I think many many anime only's would see the moment as very "revenge fueled" even though it's truly not, if that makes sense? I think manga readers will understand where I'm coming from. But yeah, I think this episode was absolutely great, and I could not be happier with Eren's titan. Looks exactly like the manga.
facts facts facts. as manga readers, we have a look at the whole. we understand the characters logic and emotions now that the manga is coming to an end. the only anime fans don't really get it i think - it's too early for them. i mean, almost the whole 3 seasons were based on anger, betrayal and revenge so it's not really suprising and understable. i KNOW all of them are going to look at it different when the anime will be over. and i agree about Eren's titan - i truly love MAPPA for it.
That episode was so good! I was on the edge of my seat the entire time and found it to be super enjoyable- even though the entire episode was just Reiner and Eren having a chat in a basement. The part where Eren transformed should've shut up the people who said MAPPA was animating this season poorly...I mean... did you see that animation of his eyes??? Anyway, I'm just going to have to try and wait for next week and hope that the next episode doesn't get delayed by two weeks again or I'm going to have to read the manga XD

- I don't think it was really a delay but rather them just getting a week off for New Year's day, so we should be safe for weekly releases from now on afaik :)

What a nice start into that year. I was so hyped up, that I'm fighting against myself to not read the manga. I've never read any manga but I'm so close to just start reading and then enjoy the animations afterwoods..

It was great, seriously i've never been on the edge of my seat like this before. Aot is so fucking wild jesus christ..Anyone disliked the ending OST used? Seems to be a hot topic. I linked one version in the OP, it uses the leaked trailer ost. Here is another with YOUSEEBIGGIRL:
This soundtrack is epic but it doesn't fit for 2 main reasons:

Predictable. Once this soundtrack starts, people instantly know what's to come. However, when Eren reaches his hand out to Reiner, we are left with a sliver of hope that maybe maybe Eren is not going to blow up. His transformation that happens after this is more shocking because of that.

Focus. Since this OST is so loud, it takes away from the menacing howl that Eren's titan unleashes after he transforms. It's a completely different vibe from when Reiner and Bertholdt transformed. This time, we are met with the full force of his determination, the destruction of the building above him, the shock of the audience.
Things are different this time around.

In their reenactment of the great titan war, all the titans seem to be using weapons but we've never seen any of the titans really use weapons yet so I'm interested to see how that will change.
Im pretty sure they pick those weapons up and use them like a reg human since only 1 titan can create weapons
I was disappointed, not because the episode was bad because it wasn't, but because I thought there finally would be some actions, and we've waited for 2 weeks for that, and now I still have to wait for another week for the real action.
I would have loved to see them release 2 episodes at once here.

no i believe it was yelena i'm going from the height and the hair cut- (ik armin has a similar one in s4 but it looked too straight cut and pale to be his hair) i've only just began the manga though i'm just going off of the spoilers i've gotten and things i've heard people say lol. it also doesn't make sense for pieck to recognize them if it was armin
It interesting really, because what AOT does well is it writes from imo no one philosophical perspective. It presents a lot of ideas but doesn't necessarily vilify or encourage either or. You have a population that have supernatural powers to transform into mindless at worst and entirely sentient giant man eating monsters that can crush armies and cities in an instant, and a inhuman desire to brutalise and eat entire populations.
Really it's just a situation of might makes right and ethnic supremacy interests. Someone is going to desire power, through war and destruction over another for the safety of their own people, so violence is simply an inevitability of human being.
seeing these chapters finally animated was really amazing. this was one of my favorite chapters of those past the second half of the third season and the transformation looked way cooler animated. the way erens eyes glowed and how his hair floated was super cool and chilling
best episode so far! i kinda didnt like the first 4 but wow!! and now that im thinking about it, im glad that theyre not going too fast into it, bc tpn s2 is apparently rushing already in the first ep so like... id rather deal with it being a rather slow build up than a lame rushed thing.
transformation was cool as hell but i dont understand why eren's eye glowed... did it do that before???? but also i would like it more if eren tidied himself up im sick of seeing him be a scraggly ass man, WHEN do i get to see those abs and that hair tied up??? but anyways the conversation between eren and reiner was great!!!
i feel like the music was quite fitting tbh, it keeps the mood for willy's speech well. the music edit with the other song that ive seen just doesnt sound good imo - not fitting at all. so im happy with the music choice
