I am reposting this thread again since it was deleted because I didn't provide you with a blurb/excerpt about why I want to discuss this matter. I've seen many people favor deuteragonist Lio Fotia over Galo Thymos from Promare. The people here on AniList are no different, in fact. Lio has over 900+ hearts while Galo only has 300+ hearts which is obviously less than half the hearts of what Lio got. And I want to know why, I would appreciate a wide variety of substantial, in-depth explanations about why majority prefers Lio over Galo. Is it the design? The writing? Anything else in particular? Please be very honest with your answers, answer brutally if you need to. I want to know the truth.

because badass femboy
But I judge people and that includes characters by how they act, not by how they look.
That's good of course, but we're just stating the reasons why people like Lio, right? Seems like a lot of people like him because of how he looks. Plenty of people like his personality and his coolness in the movie too, but seeing just these comments so far, I think people like him mostly because of how attractive he is
Personally, I like Lio better because he seems more complex, made me cry and I related to him a lot because of the pain and anger he felt for what they were doing to his people. Plus, he is adorable. While Galo was a pretty simple character and he felt a bit too cliché(even tho I like him too). Galo to me was a Kaito Momota, but much less complex and inspiring.
I can argue that Kaito Momota is also based on Kamina. He even has the English dub actor for Kamina too.
Yeah, I know, I love Kamina too, even more than Kaito xD I said Kaito because he was the first one that popped in my head. For me it's Kamina > Kaito > Galo (I'm sure there are other similar characters in between that I forgot right now, lol)
I rage-quit Dangan Ronpa V3 after the first trial really left a bad taste in my mouth so I don't know Kaito very well. I know both Kamina and Galo though since I watched Gurren Lagann and Promare. I watched Promare first then months later I watched Gurren Lagann. I personally preferred Galo because I relate to his idiotic tendencies a lot. I still love Kamina but his perverted behavior can be kinda off-putting .
Really? I cried at the first trial, but it was something expected from the franchise, what about it that you didn't like? :/ The V3 has my favorite cast of characters and the story is great(except for the last trial), even tho I like Danganronpa 2 better because the plot twists at the end were amazing. (I got a bit side-tracked, sorry).
Understandable liking Galo, he is a fun character, I just think he had so much potential that wasn't explored, I felt a bit underwhelmed watching him.
Lio to me was more interesting because there was so much going on with him, he was doing bad things, but was for a good cause, but at the same time it doesn't really justify it, and he had a lot of pressure on him as the leader, while being just a kid, and he was doing his best, but it wasn't enough and they take his people, so he felt despair and threatened a city, etc. Lio had so much to him that he felt like a real person.
(Btw, Kamina to me was kinda life-changing, that's why I like him more. I honestly don't remember him being a pervert, it's been so long since I watched the anime, but I probably didn't mind it)
It can't be helped that this is only a 2-hour movie with two 10-minute prequels.
Galo does have a backstory explaining his motivations for saving people, he thought Kray rescued him as a child. He joined Burning Rescue because Kray encouraged him to. Galo wanted to save people from fires just like he thought Kray saved him from his burning home as a child. In other words, he wanted to be just like what he thought Kray was until he discovers that Kray wasn't who he thought he was.
I do wish this was a TV show instead of a movie since I wanted to know more about Galo's childhood before and after Kray killed his family by burning down his home. And I wanted to see more of Galo and Kray's interactions to see what their relationship was like throughout the years.
People like a pretty boy in leather, and the scene in the volcano is probably one of the coolest scenes in the movie. Also kakusei is such a good song. I'm not into Promare all that much but Lio radiates a cool energy, while Galo is often depicted as someone people don't take seriously and I think that goes into how the audience sees him.
Hot take, but I thought Kakusei(the song mainly) was kinda meh. And Lio does radiate "Big Boss" energy despite his petite stature. People loved that.
And yeah, I can understand that Galo's silly and dumb antics can annoy a handful of people(I personally really relate to that since I was a huge clown as a kid and everyone thought I was annoying as a result). But it can't be helped honestly since the creators clearly said that Galo is intended to be an "idiot" type of character.
it never really went in depth with any of the characters so i cant like any of them for like actual character reasons, but i prefer lio cause the way he was drawn. i like how he has a weird shadow line thing goin on where one side is a magenta ish colour and the other is a blue or cyan kind of thing. it rlly goes well with the clothes he wears throughout the movie
the sheer amount of raw sexual dominance he showed in his first appearance
only to find out that he has the body of a femboy twink, but his personality is still as powerful as when he wore the suit. he expresses so much rage and anger and hurt even when he's expected to be this powerful leader to a group of scared, shamed people. he went through so much and it really makes people feel for him.
Galo always "bounced back" when shit hit the fan, but Lio only got back up because he wanted to protect his friends and the people who believed in him. Throughout the movie you can tell that he's so tired. So tired of being seen as the villain for something he couldnt control. So tired of being a figurehead. So tired of fighting.

Um.......okay..........?

Because you just said "because he's lit." That's it.

"Backstory"? We don't know what Lio's life was like before and when he became a Burnish. In Lio-hen, he's just some guy who shows up and rescues Gueira and Meis before declaring himself as the new leader of Mad Burnish.
Galo Thymos looked like your average copy-pasted battle shounen MC. Not saying that he was bad or anything, but Lio Fotia was more original, complex and interesting than him. If you pair that with how he looks the result is not surprising.
How come I can't enter your page?
And about Galo being a shonen protagonist, other people who preferred Lio also said the same thing, especially the non-English speakers whose reviews and Tweets I saw online. They thought Galo was a typical, run-of-the-mill shonen protag. And two of those people thought he was a parody/caricature of the archetype.
And two of those people thought he was a parody/caricature of the archetype.
Maybe he is, I don't know... I'd say for how over the top he is, some traits do come off as caricatural, but imo that's because everything is over the top in the movie.
Also you can't access my page because I put it on private. If you were curious about my score for the movie, that would be 5/5.
Oh. Because you put your account on private.
But you still gave Promare a 5/5 despite the fact you thought Galo was just an average, copy-paste shonen protag?
Yeah because I don't think a series needs to be original in order to be good (of course, that's always a nice plus though). And I do think that Promare was original under some aspects, simply, not under the characters one. Imo not original =/= badly done.
There were a handful of people who dismissed Promare as a "Gurren Lagann and Kill La Kill ripoff" though, despite being made by the exact same people. Especially, Galo whom people keeps dismissing as a "discount Kamina copy" with "no depth or charisma."
And I find those claims to be utterly absurd. It makes me so mad I have to repeat myself over and over again to these people that it's not a "rip-off."
Wait, when did I reply 16 hours ago? Did someone hack my AniList account? This thread's already been like dead for a whole month.
Who is this "wasteland" person with a Mona Genshin Impact profile pic who commented on my thread? I can't access their account for some reason. I can't find their comment either even though it showed in my notifications that they commented on my thread like, 16 hours ago.
