Really? I watched it and didn't think it was that good.
I assume it isn't for everyone, and that's fine. It's objectively a very flawed show, like very very flawed considering how highly it's held up, but I don't mind that it's flawed because it really pushed me to a point I've never been before in media with it's characters and its themes. It's far from perfect if you look at it from a purely critical standpoint, in fact it's pretty terrible from a critical standpoint, but it personally hits you in a very unique showing of emotional brutality, that captures me and a bunch of other people. Maybe it just missed you when it started swinging. It sucks that you didn't like it though, I thought it was pretty incredible.
Well yeah, but if it's not very good from the critical standpoint, how come it's a masterpiece then?
I thought the show was pretentious, evoking connections to religion in the most sacrilegious way possible, not even trying to explain anything that happens on the screen, just throwing shit your way and hoping you gonna follow the rabbit hole like some kind of mindless drone.
On top of that the characters were terrible, and Shinji in particular, I couldn't stand him.
The plot was weak too, it felt like a record on repeat... angel appear, they device a plan, plan goes to shit, somehow they kill the angel, nobody dies, angel appear, they device a plan...
I think it's only because EVERYONE is talking how good this show is everyone else just accept it as fact. Crowd mentality.

Couple months later saw a YT video on it and it looks rough jsjsIt's a great series, one of my favourites.
Same I had to think and understand what happened. Luckily one of my friends explained to me what happened and I started to appreciate it more. Gen's writing is on a whole other level.

I have Code Geass pretty much summarized from all the videos but what is the 2nd about if you don’t mind!?
I don't think the second is awfully shocking (unless OP is referring to one particular plot detail which is more just evidence of the weirdness of josei authors than anything else), but what it is, is absolutely fantastic. It's about rakugo, traditional Japanese storytelling, and it's a sort of generational tragedy that takes place mostly within a frame narrative over an extremely extended period of time. Without wanting to give too much away, it deals with the friendship of two men as they develop as performers over a period of time, and thinks very carefully about performance and art generally. In its second season, it keeps going on some of the same themes, but widens it to think about themes of family and legacy, both of which are exquisitely handled.
It is beautiful, incredibly well directed and voice acted, and absolutely heartbreaking. Definitely watch.

A huge shame, they tease you with idea that they're going to answer mysteries of the setting, and then just create even more questions in the process. It wasn't meant to be the show's actual ending, but that's how things turned out regardless.Edits: Oops, looks like I misinterpreted what was being asked. Uh, I felt the ending of this show made go from very enjoyable to a favorite.

Honestly, it shocked me in a level no other ending was able to. The twists, the emotions, it's my favorite ending ever in the entire manga industry; and I love how it completely changes your perception of the story. Absolute genius level stuff.
