Even if the family element isn’t the main theme of the series, it would be perfect if it had:
These things aren’t necessary, but would be great if they were included.
Wholesome and happy, or sad and emotional, I’d be good with both.
Don’t worry, I don’t have family issues and want to live vicariously through the characters. I just find families in anime interesting and want more of a focus on them
Hanasaku Iroha
Kinda. The family is not the main aspect, but it always plays a role.
Hi!
My first one would probably be barakamon, it's not about family per se, but it's about a city guy integrating into a village community and it's so so heartwarming, wholesome and funny!
The others are great too!!
Kakushigoto
Usagi Drop
Gakuen Babysitters
Barakamon
Himouto Umaruchan
Hey, by pasting the link directly and not through the "Link" tool, you can get them to show up like this:
Kakushigoto
Usagi Drop
Gakuen Babysitters
Barakamon
My Neighbors the Yamadas
Not the best Ghibli film, but it still has its sweet moments :)
Fruits Basket 2019
Fruits Basket
I think it'd count as family? It has the tag, they aren't blood related though, but it's that clan type of thing, very emotional too!
Everybody recommending Usagi drop but no one giving love to
My Girl
If I were to put in a genre, I think I would say that it's "lo-fi" drama. Not only it's down to earth with it's depiction of emotions and the struggles that lonely father have to face. But also it's treats it's whole cast with proper respect. Pretty good art with amazing ability to portray the emotions of the cast, especially when it comes to the titular "my girl" which have beautiful depictions of her emotions. Not gonna lie, each time I saw her worrying about something or being sad I could feel it too, not to mention tearing up a little bit during few different parts in the manga.
So if you wanna go and read an amazing manga about family life and learning how to face forward then you should really go and give it a try.
Another one I would give a go is
Taiyou no Ie
Not gonna lie, read it years ago, like 5-6 but I still remember it as one of the more heartwarming and wholesome mangas that I got to read.
And if you wanna something more condensed with stories packed so tightly that it might be hard to follow then :
Musume no Iede
is a really interesting read following a bunch of different characters trying to find their place in life and how to deal with their own respective families.
March comes in like a lion
Bunny Drop
But you should watch Clannad first
Clannad After Story
Wolf Children
Tokyo Godfathers
The Eccentric Family
Wolf Children is my top pick, it's a really heartwarming/emotional story about nature, parenthood, and coming of age. Tokyo Godfathers is really funny, but it's also sweet and about a found family of homeless people, and Eccentric Family is about how the main cast (the Shimogamo family) handles all sorts of wacky hjinks and relationships since they're shape-shifting tanuki. Highly recommend all three.
Oh I forgot about Kyousougiga! Another really good one worth checking out.
