It would be cool to go to a random manga and see all their volume covers.

Why don't you guys add all the manga covers on the site and put an option to choose which cover you want to be shown on your profile? But the default cover would be the cover of volume 1, I think that it would be very good and innovative

comparison of boku no hero volume 1 and 25
And about spoilers, the only spoiler would be new characters and their design on the cover, there is no mangaka who would give a free spoiler on a new volume cover

So i'm not sure if this is a thing already. But from what I've noticed there isn't. But if there was a way to see other images from anime and manga like in the
"Overview, characters, staff, review,etc" Bar
It would be nice if there was a section for "Pictures" like different posters from the anime (If have of course) (for manga covers too) and also stuff like official art work by the studio/author.
For example: Black Lagoon

Official art and poster, it would be cool if you can see them both in it's own like section of it's anime page.
Manga cover examples:
(Using to Your Eternity)
I think it's also another great way for users to get a feeling for the artstyles too. (Can be applied to anime as well)
This was my suggestion, thank you for your time. :)
hm yeah, I guess this could be somewhat important. But to me, it's only somewhat important. So out of 10, how important do you think this is? 10 as in "we need to add this now" and 1 being on the very bottom of the priority list
Hm to me, I'd at least a 7/10.
Like sure, it's not exactly the most important thing, because it is kind of preference thing. But is it nice to have the option? Yeah, because to me it's another way to show the authors/studio work for the anime or manga, which can help promote people to watch. Which is always a good thing. And it helps others and myself to get more familiar with the art and that's something a lot of people pay attention to.
So that's why I think it is quite important

Very specific suggestion but, we never know if I'm the only to find it cool : The idea is that currently all the manga have the first volume as an image cover on anilist. It will be cool that we can look at every cover with something like a slideshow :
here's my ugly example. :
Second suggestion is in the relation part of anime/manga. You've said multiple times that you will not add visual novels to anilist because it's too much work and that vndb is already sufficient, but why not put for example on clannad in the relation part something like it is adapted from a visual novel and when you click on it, it redirects to vndb. Because if you look quickly at the relation part of the entry, clannad look like an original work. Even though it is written source : visual novel
example :
and when you click on it, it redirects to vndb
I know there's little chance you consider implementing them but if you find my suggestions interesting, let me know.
I think both ideas are pretty nice. I really like the first idea because oftentimes the first volume will have a simple design that looks nice, but later down the line volumes get more detailed and complex in cover design. It would be nice to display what we think is a nice cover in our lists!
I don't know too much about the second option, but it would be nice to have that link. Sometimes I'm not sure which anime have visual novels as source material, but I love visual novels. I would be really interested in having that link there.

I'm going to suggest something that would be far too complicated for a bunch of different reasons but hey, why not?
Letterboxd, a very similar tracking site geared towards cinema recently implemented a new feature that allows users to customize their poster/cover image settings. You can read all about it here, but the short is that it works like this:
There's a database of selectable posters, and once I choose said poster, I will see that all across the site. There are a few different options, but the way they do it is that the default option is that someone else's choice will supersede my own when I am viewing the film on their profile or in their activity, but elsewhere I see my option/if they did not specifically choose an option, I will see mine.
(They have different settings where you can choose to see default posters no matter what or have your choices supersede EVERYONE else's choice on their profile, but the above is the default.)
I've seen lots of people on this site go "AHH, WHY DID THEY CHANGE X'S ARTWORK, AHHH WHY DID THEY CHANGE Y'S ARTWORK! NOW MY FAVORITES LOOK BAD!", so I think this suggestion that'll never be seriously considered could be a fun thing. The database ensures that you're not going to have the feed filled with a bunch of ridiculous troll/NSFW posters, and I think people would have a blast.
Unfortunately we can't. The first volumes for all the manga's on this website are the cover.
The thread " Ability to pick between different covers/headshots/etc for Anime/Manga/etc in Profile Favourites Section" and its comments have been merged into this thread.
You can view the merged thread's body below:
As the title says, I believe a feature in which you can pick between different available covers for an anime/manga/character would be useful and give an extra level of customizability for profiles.
For example, let's take a character I personally have interest in, Satoko Houjo from Higurashi.
https://anilist.co/character/1612/Satoko-Houjou
Above is her current Anilist profile, which uses one of the recent anime's headshots for her, drawing her in said anime's style. But what about those who'd prefer the original anime's style or even the Visual Novels original style?
I suggest a feature in which you are able to pick from a select few images for said character/anime/manga to appear in your favourites section on your profile.
Below is a expertly crafted image I made to illustrate this.
Once you've favourited the character, perhaps you'd be given a little drop down menu that would look somewhat similar to picture above, in which it informs of you of which pictures are available, and their origin. After picking, it would then keep that image as the image selected for your favourites tab, which would then be visible to both you and others.
Perhaps a downside might be the adding of said pictures when in a lot of cases their are so many to pick from. Rather than having good faith in the users (lol) perhaps a better option would be the ability to submit a picture for reviewal by moderators, to see whether it's suitable to be added or not. Similar to the process for submitting new anime/manga.
I think this feature would be well liked and appreciated, as a big part of many anilist users enjoyment in using this site is from customizing their profiles. (as can be seen with those who have heavily edited descriptions with gifs, images, etc)
I also think fans of certain franchises would appreciate the ability to choose which cover they'd get to use out of the myriad of selections. For Higurashi fans for example , who might've only watched the original 2006 anime, they might prefer to have their favourites section reflect specifically what anime they've watched.
Honestly I really love the idea but I feel like this is going to be a lot of work and moderation for a feature not many will use. Might be underestimating the amount of people that would use this tho. I would personally use it but I think I'm in the minority.
Maybe. Time and again I've seen people get annoyed when a character they had in their faves got a new image and to them it looked worse than the previous one. I know I get annoyed when it happens sometimes. People using it isn't what I'd consider the issue to be. For me it's just that it may not be a priority. Even if it gets added to the list of things that can be improved on this site, there's a WHOLE list of things for things to be done before that. Personally I'd love this change above others though XD
Would it? It's to my understanding moderators already have to go through numerous profiles regardless. I don't see how difficult it'd be to either say Yes or No to different images of the same character
It can work but I feel like that customization will be an extrema amount of effort considering the sheer amount of "Forms" a character can have. And even if we don't include different forms, there's so many iterations of characters that, at least in the short term, it will be a lot of effort sorting through everything.
Like for example, every character in the original idolm@ster will have to their original game form which is already like 20+ characters from one anime alone
But it'd be up to the users to upload these images for moderation, all the mods need to do is approve or deny.
There are 1.3 million Anilist users and I believe the mod team is rather small. (I just checked, there are 86K staff members but the mod team is divided into sections and 86K is still small compared to 1.3 million users) There are 110k characters. Everyone has a different taste so they will literally get millions of requests to “just” say yes or no. It’s a lot of work for something really not that important.
I think it could work but moderating all the images just isn't feasible. If there was a downvote/upvote mechanic then that might help, since an image that gets a lot of downvotes could then be moderated, which is a much smaller task than checking through everything. There's also the problem that anything with a huge fandom will get dozens and maybe hundreds of images for a single character especially if there's a lot of fanart, so having a limit on images is necessary. There's also the question on whether or not fanart/unofficial images would be accepted, or if it has to be taken from an official source.
I would use this feature for most of my favorite characters though, and considering how many users put a lot of effort into customizing their pages, I can see this feature getting a lot of use
Yes an upvote system would in fact be a good way of doing things.
I was more arguing for purely official sources. Allowing fan art would have too many problems, such as the number of requests like you mentioned, but more importantly then the need to cite the artist and so on. Much easier to just limit it to official works.
I also don't think ALL official works should be uploaded, simply one official work from each iteration (One from lets say one anime, and then another from its reboot) in order to streamline it.
Supporting multiple images for characters/staff is already on the site roadmap but it is currently low priority. We'll keep this suggestion in mind but any future implementation of this in the future may not be an image per media entry and could be a different design for multiple images.
Also if you weren't aware, you can already make submissions for various data on the site, including character images. You can read more about it in this thread in the "Data Submissions" section and guidelines in the submission manual.
There also seems to be some confusion in this thread that there are 86K site moderators - this is not the case. The "Staff" stats on the site stats page are for staff that worked on creating the anime and manga listed here. You can view the full list of site moderators here. This link can also be found in the site footer labeled as "Moderators".
