Using A User Account as a Group.
I have no definite plans to do so just yet, and I saw nothing in the guidelines that says it would not be allowed, but I was wondering if it would be acceptable to create an account that would function as a group and not as an individual user?
Character Submissions
I had submitted a new character for the manga Candy about a week and a half ago named Miyamoto Kanon, and it has yet to be posted to the manga page. My intent isn't to rush or anything like that, but while I did get a confirmation pop-up of my submission, I wonder if there may be a glitch?
If I understand correctly, a new character must be submitted here and once added by a data-mod where one then goes to the edit manga/anime data page for the specific title to get a character identification number. Once that number is acquired, the character can then be submitted for adding to the specific title? Or is the new character submission page all that is needed for a user to complete for a new character to be added to a series?
I did note that on the edit manga/anime data page, the 'new' link leads to a 404 page, but for now I'm assuming that's only because I did not have a character ID entered.
I didn't add bug reports as the character in question may simply not have been added yet or while the process seems very straight forward, it is possible that I am missing something obvious.
Hey there, as far as I know there shouldn't be anything wrong with doing anything like that account-wise, but as always, if you are doing something like that I recommend making sure that the e-mail / password isn't shared with other accounts on AniList or other platforms because nobody likes getting hacked and such.
Sorry about the delay in dealing with your character submission, users are submitting a ton of characters and it's getting backed up a bit with the mods who should be dealing with them being kept busy by their day to day lives.
@Lemon worked his magic and got the character added for you.
There's a better system for submissions in development right now that'll hopefully land as soon as possible that addresses a lot of the quirks that you brought up. For now, I recommend just putting a link to the series that the character belongs to in the "Sources/Notes" field and whoever processes the submission will add it to the series for you without having to go through an extra step.
Indeed, security is important. And while I'm not certain if I will create a group, I am glad that I'll be able to do so.
Ah, no. I am greatly appreciative of the character being added and to @Lemon for doing so, especially with the workload mentioned for data-mods. I have other characters I planned on adding, but should I hold off until data mods get caught up?
I look forward to the new system and I will do as you recommend. Thank you.
That is a good question. I see this place doesn’t have an anonymous posting option, which leads me to believe they want individuals associated with their comments for accountability reasons. Now how do you hold an individual accountable for post made using a group account? Tricky situation. Implement a system to associate individual accounts with a group account, or some kind of tripcode would probably be the best way to solve this.
That or just form a group with or pass out the security info to people you generally trust...
1.) More people that join anilist the more likely it is to succeed. Being home to multiple individuals in a group instead of a single account shared by a group would be instrumental to this.
2.) A simple falling out can prompt someone to highjack and sink the group account, and anyone from the outside wouldn’t know the difference. In system where individuals are show we can all blame the individual and not the group, allowing the group to persist here at anilist.
Linking multiple accounts to a single account is a lot of work for nearly zero gain. If you make an account and hand out the details for it, in the end, it'd be your fault if something happened to it.
We do have IP logging, and if you don't want to give your friends access to an account because they might ruin not only the account, but your reputation, then I'd suggest not giving anybody access or finding new friends.
If you want anonymous posts, tripcodes and sage, then use a BBS. This isn't 2chan.
If it’s zero gain then why does facebook, youtube, G+, etc have it?
I don’t want anonymous posts, but sage would be nice.
A user would still be designated as being in charge of the account to approve or revoke linked account permissions, and therefore would be also responsible for any problems caused.
This is also a list site, not a social network with group pages, stores or content production or brand promotion. There is no need for linked accounts when one person can make a standard account and then share details if they wish for other users to update the list.
I see no valid reason that a group account for an anime club etc. would need to use any social aspects of this site that wouldn't be more appropriate on a personal account.
