Part 7 is highly rated so i want to read it. I really dont care about the filler things just part 7. What do i need to know before reading part 7?? Like that stand thingy or whatever?. Thanks for any info!

@Alians @fantasi @Bleach you guys shouldn't skip parts. JoJo is a very enjoyable series that you SHOULD take your time to experience. Part 7 has subtle references to other parts and honestly they add a lot more to the experience. If you skipped previous parts these references would fly over your head and you would NOT enjoy it as much
I wouldn't recommend skipping parts 1-6, since they are all interesting and unique, and you'll highly enjoy them all if you choose to watch/read them.
That said, if you're really against watching parts 1-6 (or you just don't have time, which is often the case), then you shouldn't be too lost by diving straight into part 7. I won't explain why, as it's a massive spoiler for part 6, but the settings and characters change entirely between 6 and 7, meaning that, as long as you have a decent idea of what a Stand is, there shouldn't be much (if anything at all) that won't be explained in part 7. All of the characters, places and events are completely different to the preceding parts.
If you have the time though, I do think you should reconsider and check out the earlier parts. I'm absolutely sure you won't regret it.
Thanks for the comment. My main issue is more about the fact that I cant get through part 3-6 because I did not particularly like them but am still interested in reading part 7 as I've heard it's very good but then again if I can't understand it because of the lack of context from previous parts I might not enjoy it anyways.
But wait, for what you said, you tried to watch part 3 (anyway, reading it will be faster, the anime drag a lot longer than the manga version) and didn't have any contact with 4~6, right?
How can you say a thing about them? Btw the Jojo community is know for shit rankings (part 6 is considered horrible mostly because of the female lead lol). And part 8 is pretty much incomprensible seriously, it is way too confusing.
Yeah, I have not touched 4-6 as I couldn't make it through part 3 would you say part 4-6 is better?
Well I don't like part 3, I watched it, read it and rewatched it (with a friend) and only in the rewatch I started to see any value in it to make it worth it the long run. After all it is a "monster of the week" esque.
Part 4 have a lot of good interactions between the characters and one of the best written main villains in the series, if you rewatch it after ending you will see a LOT of foreshadowing about it.
Part 5 is fine, good characters but a not so amusing protag and main villain, the shine of it is in the other characters (my opinion, Bruno is a good mom haha).
Part 6 have very interesting setting, but some problems in the story, but still good, I think it made a very good job ending the 1-6 arc. Very ansious for the anime version.
Part 7 is pretty good as everyone says.
Part 8 is not over so it is hard to say, but so far I didn't like it, very very confusing and a lot of strange concepts, like a lot, kinda of bullshitting even for a Jojo manga lol.
I think youre misunderstanding something here, part 6 ending has nothing to do with part 7 setting, the whole universe reset ends at part 6 and part 7 and 8 are set in a completely new parallel universe
a) You should probably spoiler tag that since it's a pretty massive spoiler for part 6.
b) I never said you need to watch up to part 6, but if you do then it gives you a much better appreciation for the world Araki set up. You'll know more about Stands and symbolism, and you'll probably have a much better time.
oh yeah my bad, i'll add a spoiler, thanks for pointing that out.
and yeah im completely agreeing with your point, skipping the parts is like erasing 50% of the overall enjoyment, but what I understood from your comment is that you think part 6 ending was the cause of the part 7 new setting so I pointed out that thats not the case, thats all, thank you for your time.
You need to know that part 7 is basically an alternate universe version of part 1.. but like completely different. Many characters from previous parts have alternate versions in this part. Some examples:
The mc of part 1 is Jonathan Joestar, and the mc of part 7 is Johnny Joestar.
Part 1 has Will Zeppeli, and part 7 has Gyro Zeppeli
Part 1 has Dio Brando and Part 7 has Diego Brando
and so on...
And while reading all the previous parts before part 7 would definitely increase your enjoyment, each JoJo part literally has its own story that somehow connects to the overall story. Part 7 is basically Araki doing a reboot and it starts a new story in a new universe not connected to any of the previous parts apart from the references I mentioned.
Are you really just gonna assume that all the other parts before 7 are crap and/or should be skipped?
I mean from my own experiences I would say that in my opinion, 1-3 is pretty boring but hey as I said before it's subjective.
fair enough, but part 3 is often very well-received, and yet you disliked it. You're apparently only going to skip to 7 because you heard it's great, but just like part 3, it's just as possible that you'll dislike it despite the popular opinion.... so might as well just try out the other parts and see if you like them yourself.
if you didn't enjoy any of the previous parts, what makes you think you'll like part 7? just bc it's highly rated?
To be completely fair, part 7 is a whole new kind of JoJo, largely because it was switched to Ultra Jump and so Araki can do a lot more with it. After reading through parts 1-6, part 7 read very tonally different to me.
frankly i've stopped at golden wind and haven't picked it back up yet, so i lack the full perspective... but it just didn't make much sense to me that somebody who's not enjoying a series would just skip a large chunk of it and start reading it from part 3245, expecting to like it. though i suppose jojo is a special case, with its ever changing cast of characters. dunno how much knowledge you'd need to not feel lost apart from learning what stands are and whatnot
I agree that for me, personally, it's super weird. But part 7 in particular you need just no knowledge of the series to pick up. It explains Stands (as they work a little differently from part 7 on) and any "references" it makes are like... nods to the fandom rather than plot-related or referring to any outside characters in any way.
But yeah, if it's the storytelling they don't like, I don't see how part 7 would be any more likable, lol.
I loved Part 1-2, but Part 3 onwards are a pain to watch imo, so I dropped it somewhere around Part 4. I just hate the concept of Stands and think it is so boring. That's also why I liked the previous fighting-system in Part 1 and 2 way more.
So in the end u gotta decide if u can even last through some of the previous and more boring parts to even reach Part 7
