So I've been a MAL member for 7 years, but recently MAL lost its appeal. The last straw for me was when I lost my account 3 days ago with their awful system security.
Anyway, Anilist is a good site and have great potential with the frequent updates. Yet, the library here is definitely lacking and need to improve.
So I would suggest to allow people to add anime\manga to the database and having you guys for the approval to either make it public or simply disapprove it.
So I hope you take into consideration.
Mod Edit: Yes, users are free to use the submission system to request new entries.
Please read through the submission manual for our listing criteria: https://submission-manual.anilist.co/
(and make sure that the entry hasn't already been addressed on the forums, the AniList Discord, or in the list of frequently rejected titles)
Data submission is a feature, info can be found here: https://anilist.co/forum/thread/14
Presently rebuilding a completely new submission system. It'll be much easier to use and have a pile of new features, but taking a little bit longer to finish up - so have to link the previous version meanwhile. Hopefully will be able to make the switch very soon.
This link allows you to submit new manga to the database: https://anilist.co/edit/manga/new
I'd advise reading the relevant parts of the submission manual first, as it might answer any potential questions and/or issues you run into: https://anilist.gitbook.io/submission-manual/

Create New Manga/Light Novel: https://anilist.co/edit/manga/new
what manga are you looking for? maybe we can try to find it for you if you can tell us the name.
also, keep in mind that anilist will search with english titles by default, so change that in your settings (under "Anime & Manga") if you wanna search with romaji or native name, just in case the search function doesn't recognise it.
but if you still can't find it, you can submit the manga to anilist here, but make sure to read the documentation as well before doing so.
scroll down and there should be a add data button click that or click this
It alrdy exists in the database.
Usually looking up the native name is the most efficient way to find info on them (basically the japanese name). I cant cite the sites exactly because it depends on the publisher and there are also some illegal sites who sometimes give a lil bit of info but its not always trustworthy.
You can link official sources in the Notes section in your submission, there should be a space called "Submission Notes", thats where u type the sources in.
In the case of manwha you have to search them by their korean name and use korean sites as sources, most of the time they are publishers like Naver, Line, or Kakao stuff like that.
Hi, can a mod add this please? https://www.webtoons.com/en/thriller/my-deepest-secret/list?title_no=1580&page=1
The data is added by the users themselves, so someone like you or me.
There is a sticky post where everything is explained, how to add an anime or a manga: https://anilist.co/forum/thread/14
Very few anime are missing from the database, they're usually very obscure/old ones. So it's unlikely you need to add an anime. (and the anime for future seasons are added quite quickly after their announcement)
But since you seem to read some manga, one day you'll probably end up reading titles that aren't on Anilist yet. ;)
The way the process works is a lot of data ends up on the site because users, like you, submit it through the links that @POROW mentioned above. However those submissions still need to be accepted by moderator and I can say that the first Rick and Morty short is not allowed at this time as while they have anime staff working on them, there is no clear proof of creative control coming from Japan. All/most of the primary staff are American (some Japanese american, but American all the same).
You can submit new Anime or new Manga through these two links.
You can check our Submission Manual (also linked in the site's footer as 'Add Data') if you want to know more about our DB criteria as well as about how to submit entries!
Should you need more help with submitting data, you can also ask in the Submission Support channel on our Discord.
The thread "How to add an anime thats not on the site?" and its comments have been merged into this thread.
You can view the merged thread's body below:
the manga for shonan bakusozoku is on the site but the anime isn't? This is probably because the sub they did in the 90s is mostly lost and there's no high quality version anywhere besides japanese netflix.(which is a real shame cuz i wanna see it!!!)(i watched a few episodes in dub on youtube and its pretty cool) i was wondering if there's a way i can add it?
Hey! You can make a submission for new anime entries using this link: https://anilist.co/edit/anime/new
You can also find the submission manual at https://submission-manual.anilist.co
