  That's a good point. I guess Tsubaki's downside is that when you have that crutch to fall back on, it's hard to move forward. Probably why she couldn't get him to play again for those two years.

I'd prefer him to have ended up with Takeshi. I personally don't think they did a good job developing his relationship with Kaori. They played together once and it went terribly, then she spent the rest of the show in the hospital. Still, it was beautiful how they used a free-spirited musician to bring color back to his rigid style and show him the purpose of music.
