Can someone please explain to me why people like Re:ZERO it so much. I don't hate it but I just cannot seem to understand the hype about it. People talk about the character development but i just don't see it, matter of fact, I find the mc kind of annoying.
lol, did this really warrant making a forum post about?
Buddy, your not even done with the show yet...
My question still stands
It is just a question? I got a question for you. How your favorite player leave your favorite team? Matter of fact where they at in the playoffs?
Alright, that one hurt...
lol but really, I think Re:Zero gets a lot of love because it does a lot of things right. And character development is great, I mean Subaru went through hell over and over again and became extensively better. I could go on and on honestly but I don't wanna bore you
Edit: also, I am a temporary Nets fan...for reasons...
Not THE most overrated show, but its trash. Yes
Could you explain why you think it's trash? It's okay if you don't want to.
My main problem was Subaru honestly. I dont think it is actually a trash show. Its allright. Maybe the 2nd season even makes up for the first, but i do not know that. And i probably never will.
In general i also didnt really like any of the other characters. Subarus motivation was questionable. And i am not a fan of fantasy nowadays.
You need to take anything i say with a grain of salt though. I havent seen the show since it came out like 5 years ago? And i honestly barely remember much from it. Yeah my original comment was not the most charitable, but it is what it is.
I do not feel the need to make a list about why i dislike a show on a random ass thread. Merely stating my dislike is fine. You could have asked me to clarify, but instead you just replied with something which in its essence is a "no u" argument.
The hype around it definitely adds to the reason people rate it so high. Never said its the only reason people like it, but acting like hype is never a factor in peoples enjoyment of something is ridiculous. It literally happens every single year whenever a big ass show comes out. The most recent example is probably Jujutsu Kaisen. Does this mean a show is inherently bad because there is hype around it? No, however the initial hype does make people look at something through rose tinted glasses.
Also if i have nothing meaningful to say then why do you even bother replying to me in the first place? Could have spent your time on something else than finding random YouTube videos that agree with you. Making an appeal to authority is worthless if the people you appeal to are just some anime essay youtubers which the person you are arguing with has no respect for.
P.S
You should work on being less condescending when talking to people with whom you seemingly disagree.
Overrated this, overrated that... that word has lost its meaning, kuma.
Some people like Re:Zero because of the constant struggles the protagonist faces. His charisma is something that many people like, including me. The concept of "respawning" or "restarting" is tackled here in a somewhat grim fashion. I'm sure many people have had moments in their life that they want to redo. For example, making a huge mistake at school, work, etc. Our protagonist has the ability to do just that, yet the horrors he faces constantly make the audience wonder if this ability is a positive.
I think that's why people like it, kuma.
Edit: I think I need to point out that anime is subjective and the enjoyment is all in the viewer, kuma.
I don't see it as overrated tbh. It's score is deserved as it is. It had some intense moments that the viewer gets attached to it.
There was some development with Subaru, but it's very hard to actually pay attention to. While I was watching, I've spent analyzing the details it had and got a clear understanding of his annoyance.
If anything, the most that you've seen from his development is possibly the courage that he built up since Season 2. At least... that's what I think
trying to compare yuru camp and re zero is like comparing the flight speeds of a chocolate bar and a really slow airplane. yuru camp doesnt make any pretence about a deeper meaning or a mysterious plot and so i can enjoy it for what it is, wholesome fun. as for the idea that i havent been paying attention, mate evangelion is my favourite show, theres nothing i love more when watching anime than figuring out every little detail and motivation behind each character and event and connecting them to form a far vaster story than the anime portrays on the surface. and as someone who payed intense attention for every second i was watching it, what were you expecting me to see? like actually i dont know what you think i would see from paying close attention. a meaningful sub plot about a protagonist in way over his head struggling to cope with his situation? except he only realised he was supposed to be shaken by his situation after multiple deaths and seeing his friends in this world die multiple times, so it felt more like the writers afterthought then any sort of meaningful phycological thing. oh and also, if you want to argue your opinion on an anime, pls do it yourself instead of linking a bunch of one sided scripted youtube videos that no one is gonna take the time to watch k thanks.
sorry for the text wall lmfao it just irks me when people suggest that the reason i thought an anime was bad was my own fault and not because the story i just watched and pondered on was actually bad
Definitely not overrated at all.
The direction is absolutely masterful, including sound design, various angles and camera (well, animation) tricks that make you feel uneasy at necessary moments.
The animation itself is great, and the art is wonderfully colorful.
The soundtrack is fantastic, both in cheery lively slice of life moments and the more horrific, tension filled ones.
The writing is something many shows could learn from, although I'll admit, S1 did take its time with the main story, barely progressing it, instead focusing on absolutely brilliant character growth. There are very few anime characters, developped as well as Subaru. You don't even need to go far for an example - look at Kazuma from Konosuba and how much of a garbage and stale character he is.
Re:Zero is very much worth the hype it gets. And that's not counting the light novel even, which goes into so many details about world building, politics etc.
The fact is everyone is entitled to their opinions and as it turns out a lot of people like it, may not be the top of the list for everyone though cus different tastes. Personally i love it cus i just enjoy the character development and am very attached to the characters, although of course some bits do leave more to be desired but that's with almost everything tho isn't it? Plus the story keeps you on ur toes, the twists the composition of the scenes and everything is done so brilliantly.
P.s. Subaru was SUPER annoying to start off with, and that i definitely can undrstand
You don’t see Subaru’s character development? How much have you watched? It’s a slow arc of being a shut-in disappointment to becoming the hero he actually wants to be. He’s really lame at first, doing all sorts of stupid shit- and since he’s human he still makes mistakes, but he grows over time. He starts genuinely saving people, and makes something of himself. And during this he has to confront his past self; his past life. He has to come to terms with who he was seeing his parents. He still cries a lot, but that’s natural, but he’s undeniably a sort of hero now.
personally i love the show, because of the characters' outlook/understanding of their lives and because you get to see the development of their values as the show goes on, especially now, because in the anime they're getting their character developments (at the moment mainly emilia). ik most people hate subaru, but i never minded him in s1, and in s2 i love him so.
ALSO I HUGE POINT (heard this from a video i watched), some shows impact you more depending on your life situation at the time, you might not get re:zero because the content in the story isn't what you need or value right now, so the show ends up looking shallow. that's why some shows that i really liked, if i were to watch them for the first time now, they wouldn't impact me as much
it just depends, re:zero really just hit different for me as how some shows don't. i could say the same for steins;gate, i can't get my head around why that show is so highly regarded because it didn't hit different for me at all, but it's just people's opinions at the end of the day.
Just because you don't find it special doesn't mean that it's overhyped.
my hatred towards word "overrated" is growing day by day
The mc is realistic for me, actually I like the mcs that are crybabies like subaru because you know when they get character development it's gonna be satisfying, and it did. And REZERO really had one of the most interesting first eps ever. Plus you probably have seen to many isekais that has an overpowered mc (which are all underdeveloped btw) so rezero kinda is different for you.
