What did you think of the episode?
story still good AF, but CGI is disgusting.
unnecessary in some moments.
Shun is feeling more and more like a deconstruction of a shounen protagonist as this goes on XD
he even did the whole "WITH THE POWER OF MY FRIENDS"...to no avail. Shun needs a serious reality check, because he's just a full on idiot right now. I loved that line "Julius-niisama wouldn't have run away from this fight!"...and that is why you have no idolized brother around anymore :D
If the enemy gives you an out, take it. There's no point in hurting your friends/getting them killed if it doesn't have to happen.
White is going to be joining the fight it seems, things are about to get extremely messy if her being able to singlehandedly take down the elf barrier is any indication!
Because Shun is supposed to be like it but people are unaware of this and are shitting on him instead.
Up to somewhat recently, it could have been argued that he was just "shounen protag #23432", but it became extremely obvious that the story is saying he's an idiot and needs to stop thinking so hotbloodedly, calling him out on all the things that those sort of characters usually get away with. Though the signs have always been there.
Him and Kumoko are basically opposing forces. Kumoko is all about surviving. She isn't a narcissist, or selfish (she helps others a lot), just prioritizes living. She doesn't see any value in dying just for some cause or "honor" or anything like that. And she is well aware that the world can be cruel. She also is very cautious (though she can get careless at times)
Then you have Shun: naive, extreme hero complex, and believes that the world is black and white. You're either on the side of "good" or the side of "bad". his teammates don't share this idealogy, and that's the only reason he made it this far. And he believes strongly that "good" will always triumph as long as you don't back down. That's why he said something as stupid as "I believe this is a fight that can't be backed down from", when he was in a fight that was 100% impossible to win, even with the "power of friendship". Needless to say, this also results in him hardly ever preparing or planning for anything, and just recklessly charging in, believing that he'll triumph.
If he were the protagonist, things would somehow work out in his favor via shounen magic. Fortunately, he's not, and he doesn't get any plot contrivance spray to make him "triumph". And instead is going to (hopefully) get a serious slap to the face to show him he's no "hero" and really quite selfish. Not caring about how his friends get hurt, as long as he can play Hero.
The story for this show doesn't make sense, the cast is too big ( I could care less about 95% of the cast). The only takeaway from this anime is that I know the demons want to kill the elves. I hope that Crunchyroll doesn't pick this anime up for a season 2. This has been a waste of 23 weeks of my life.
I was desperately hoping since the beginning that the anime would get better and they'd get at least a bit better on the pacing end of things, but no, even the second-to-last episode of the anime, it's still an even bigger disappointment.
The anime by itself is just okay, but compared to how awesome the Light Novel is, the anime is heavily on the worse end of adaptations that I've seen
"From where I'm standing,I seriously can't understand why you all would side with them. If I had to guess, it's probably because they duped you into doing it. The elves are a threat to the entire world, man. Defending them is crazy" -Kyouya (the commander)
then they ask for explanations and the answer obsviously is:
"I guess I can't convince you, huh?" -
motherfucker didn't explain shit. FUCK, i know it can't delivery the whole story in a dialogue because of all the stuff they are building to later on probably explain (!?), but this doesn't make the dialogue less dumb imo.
Also the whole episode felt like the most generic dumb annoying shounen dialogue I've seen in a while, for the exception that the "good" side just suck.
TL;DR
"I can't understand why would you protect the elves, they're bad"
"so tell me why ffs"
"I guess we can't convince you, let's fight"
"AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA"
I mean, the whole kidnapping babies, racism and xenophobia should be enough to tell him that they're not good.
Also, explaining to Shun why the Elves are evil would take days due to all the extra information he would need.
Though you also need to understand this explanation would come from the faction that started the Great Demon-Human War, killed his father, messed his kingdom and has kidnapped his little sister.
At this point trusting anyone is a big jump of faith.
What is the point of making these characters be reincarnated when they just act like generic RPG characters anyway? Aside from it apparently having something to do with whatever the elf king guy is doing, it just feels so meaningless.
pretty much, I remember people defending the plot to me earlier on ergo months ago and I feel my appreciation for the mystery and narrative has all but faded. It's truly a shame.
The human story has been the worst part of the series, utterly pointless, unlikeable characters, with predictably bad personalities.
Honestly I forgot that Shun's Nee-san had died, I care so little about these guys, and the plot just seems ever more contrived and silly.
Overall plot is fine, but all of these action scenes are rough. It could be worse but I expected more. I really hope they have a good conclusion next episode. Feels good to see Shun get some much needed reality check. I didn't mind him being the way he was, so it's not "too little too late".
I can see Kumoko either not coming back during the last episode or being revealed to have been alive all this time during Shun's time, but either way what this needs is a good ending point for the whole situation, not just for one character.
well, let's ignore the CGI fight because everyone know how bad it is (seriously, i don't even know what spell Katia used until Sophie explain it effect the earth)
The problem i have with this ep would be, why are they even fight Sophie at all, she already say she not gonna kill any of them and even say "the main army should be at the elf village by now, you can go there to fight if you want" . Everyone else know how strong Sophie is compare to them, it just Shun keep try to fight her for some reason, well Fei did say because of his pride but pride for what? you know demon army is attacking the village where your friends are, yet here you are wasting time with this.
They also keep talking about how the elf is the true villain here and they are the threat to the world, yet they never bother to explain any of it to them, even with that "Sensei's fully into their crap" then is it a problem to just tell Shun and other about the truth? instead of just "i don't know why you side with them" "you probably got duped by them". Explain it to them then jzzz.
They likely just cut out a lot of thing and the novel actually have them talking more but since they throw us a whole ep with just this, i want to at least complain about it how nonsense this is.
Shun pulling up his mask and saying love and peace at 2fps was worst of the lot.
Also this ties into a critic I've kind of had as this series has progressed. I get the argument of hormones, and having teenage bodies could result in some level of similar attributes, but all the reincarnations at this point are double the age of when they died originally. You'd assume that'd matured somewhat.
A misstep in the writing imo
I almost wish I'd never watched this anime, penultimate episodes are meant to be arguably better in some cases than final episodes. After the 2nd half began, this show has become more and more embarrassing, the CGI is horrendous, and shameful.
The story become more and more contrived, and silly, as time goes on. If there had been simply 12 episodes of Spider perhaps it would've worked better, but this is looking to finish on such a pathetic, damp squib, that it makes me wish incy wincy spider had been washed down my preverbal watchlist much much sooner.
