What did you think of the episode?
Surprisingly, Episode 1 is 46:45 minutes long.
What a fantastic episode.
It being 50 minute made sense only because they wished to show how much of an impact Siesta had on Kimizuka. There were events that got rearanged basically most of the Siesta scenes.
The best scene was the Koumori fight sequence because holy shit that looked absolutely outstanding and you could clearly see how the animation level went up.
I won't say because I've read the novels but well expect everything
I only managed to watch 13 minutes and I just couldn't bare it anymore, it's just so incredibly bad. It feels like it was written by a child, one with curious imagination but not enough intellect to make something decent out of it.
You didn’t even give it a chance. How the hell could you give it a 1/10 when you didn’t even watch 30% of the episode? Be patient IMO and give it a waiting after the episode ends
Because it's just that bad. The writing is terrible and I just don't see how it could get better.
you give this a 1 but give shows like the asterisk war, my hero s4, and sao a 10 actually funny af
He's allowed to have an opinion and making fun of his taste is a pathetic action.
While this is true, it's just that his criticism of ''Written by someone with no intellect'' seems silly when taimadou gakuen, rakudai and others don't exactly have the highest degree of written intellect (dont get me wrong I love rakudai).
I will agree that the beginning bits were a bit cringe but you have to remember that the language used in anime itself is usually quite cringe versus something more normal like what you see in the SSSS series (some would argue more boring as well).
I wish every anime I had 40 min episodes ;_;
no matter how much he saw of it, if he didn't like it he didn't like it and he's entitled to that. this nonsense about "you can only judge it after x" is stupid and is childish. people don't have infinite time and its entirely fine if some prefer to use it only on things they feel like its worth investing it into.does that mean that it could be something he liked it if he gave more chances to it? maybe, but that's not guaranteed anyway.
you can only judge it after x" is stupid and is childish
So you're telling me in other words, If you happened to be a school dropout, then you'll be deem as useless in society?
Eg: Hunter x Hunter has one of the most generic first episode you'll find in shounen.
So you're telling me in other words, If you happened to be a school dropout, then you'll be deem as useless in society?
first off
this is a terrible analogy that I don't see how its in any way related to what I was talking about, and while indeed school dropouts are hardly deemed useless by society there is a negative stigma towards them. lazy, unmotivated, indecisive, idiotic are just some of the words that are often ascribed to them. it doesn't mean they're truthful, but it is what society thinks of them more often than not, what were you going for with this?
anyway if someone drops an anime in the first episode they're entirely in their rights to do so and say that anime was bad in an activity or forum post. its the truth to their experiences with it, even if someone says something like "objective" that only pertains to their vision of the world. discussions would be much nicer if more people were capable of reading between the lines like this.
I agree with all you said since I also drop stuff whenever I want to, but still this is an episode discussion thread, what is the point of commenting here when he only watched only 1/5 of the episode? He doesn't have much basis to discuss, it'd be better to comment on his own profile or something else
I kinda get it, The start was a bit too sudden... Like... Sure... Roll into the action scene within the first 13 mins to impress us... It's gorgeous not gonna lie.
But for crying out loud at least... Don't introduce us to the character the shitty way like... Protagonist talking to himself? Trying to be a smartarse? If it's a rom-com Anime that's fine... But for a supposedly mystery-filled anime, This shit is just too confusing... And for some people, Like you for example. I get it you would rate it this bad.
As far as I'm concerned. I'm only hooked by the character's design so far...
It's not just that, it's the quality of the writing and how it doesn't quite make sense. I felt as if the author watched/read some detective series alike to Sherlock Holmes and decided he wants to do something like that, however wasn't smart enough to actually write something that's actually interesting and makes sense.
Artstyle and character designs aside, everything else just felt low quality and kinda cringe.
While I don't agree with your overall assessment, I can understand your specific vector of "hatred" for this episode. I believe your feelings for this episode are the same feelings I had with Rokka no Yuusha. A large majority praised that show when it aired, but I loathed it and gave it a 2/10, with the points divided between animation and audio.
I subscribe heavily to S.S. Van Dine's rules for writing a detective story. Since you did not complete the first episode this is a bit of a spoiler, but there were two mysteries in this episode. Both of them failed hard to follow the aforementioned rules, and it felt a bit insulting that I as the viewer was not given the opportunity to solve either mystery. It dragged me along at a very fast pace and did not give me a chance to pick up on any clues.
To add on, I have also dropped a couple of series without even completing the first episode. You can disregard the people who are telling you watch an entire episode before judging. While ditching early does disqualify you from having a truly meaningful opinion that can be imposed on others, it does not make your decision to bail early any less valid. It is a perfectly acceptable course of action as long as you are aware that you are giving up your right to engage in meaningful debate on the topic. We all have limited time, and you should spend it in a way that makes you the happiest (as long as you do not impose on others).
0 logic, 0 mystery.
Only flashy one liners and dumb monsters out of nowhere.
FMC is your clichéd quirky genius, MC is you casual loser "why is this happening" dude.
Another trash anime without any actual plot.
But if you are under 120 IQ maybe you can enjoy it idk.
I mean, I would also be the "why is this happening" dude when a literal top tier girl that is a detective came at me with a already solved case in her hands and after asking me to become her assistant she showed me that the whole world is not normal and in fact supernatural things exist. Also she will dress as a bride and make me fly throught the sky while searching for the component of a child gang that abuses of drugs...
I literally don't understand the critique here... he is just coherent with the situation.
Man... That animation was smooth during the fight scene
Also, Siesta is turning out to be some strong waifu material
She is in middle school.
here are just 3 of your S and A tier waifus
(I didn't even bother checking the rest, though there's probably more)
Oh and to make things better
True lmao. It’s fine. It was a joke, anyway- I think it’s fine as long as you don’t like her BECAUSE she’s a middle schooler. Sorry if I offended you, but it wasn’t really a call out so much as “haha, she’s in middle school lmfao”.
Also, I’m like 90% sure it said she was in middle school in the show.
I see, if thats the case then its all good, but no, that's not the reason I like her (if anything it was rather the cat maid costume that got to me lmao)
and yes you are right, it was mentioned during the plane scene that someone was a middle schooler, but they were referencing the male MC.
He was in middle school during his time with Siesta and he finished high school after the time skip at the end of the episode.
But lets be honest, the guy was living alone without parents, looks like an adult, acts like a 20 year old, and was taking part in (illegal?) smuggling/trade/whatever
Him being in middle school was most likely only for the plot's convenience, more specifically the culture festival
Yeah, absolutely. With anime it’s honestly best to ignore the age of the characters, I only ever think about it because it’s funny. I didn’t mean to offend you with that lmao. I’ll make it more apparent I’m joking next time, that was pretty cut and dry. But yeah, Siesta might not even be human, honestly. With her abilities and what not unexplained right now, we’ll have to see.
Visuals: 11/10
Plot:-1/10
I can't even finish the first episode. My god!
It felt like all the funds went to the visuals and none went to writing.
The novel is one of the best in Japan right now, I just hope ENGI doesn't screw up the plot.
I went on watching this anime without any info and that was my honest impression of episode 1 so I dropped it.
If it's really good, then there's going to be tons of clips that are going to come from that title. Maybe it'll make me want to watch it in the future -- but from just watching episode 1, Nope.
There are already 2 contenders for best animated anime of the season: this and The Case Study of Vanitas lol
Other than that I really enjoyed this but I am still confused on why Siesta choose exactly him as his assistant. Is this a thing they will explain in the future or it was already told in this episode but I am too stupid to understand?
depending on how season 2 of ms. Kobayashi's dragon maid goes that might be top 2 for me. Idk assuming this one keeps going strong it should be up there. This season looks pretty underwhelming compared to the last 2.
I actually didn't like the Case Study of Vanitas as much lol, but it's just the first episode so I'll have to see
I meant in terms of animations lol but anyway can I ask why you didn't like the Case Study of Vanitas?
Tbh, I agree that this season is pretty much poor, but at least fall 2021 won't disappoint us (in fact fall 2021 may become one of the craziest seasons in the history of Anime).
I'm not sure, but something just didn't click with me. I'm never a fan of chibi stuff and there seemed to be a lot. But I like the overall theme of it and my opinion of it isn't really gonna be fully manifested until I see most of the episodes.
Oh and for sure, so much great stuff is coming out in fall. In fact, 2021 is an amazing year for anime, even if summer is a low point. Jobless reincarnation season 2 was supposed to be summer so if that hadn't been pushed back I might have a more positive view of this season.
They did give an explanation, but calling it an explanation is pretty strong. This was part of some internal monologue. Kimi theorized that Siesta approached him due to the trouble that he attracts. It would become a lot easier to solve mysteries when someone you are involved with is a trouble magnet.
The airplane part was good, the "mystery" part of it wasn't interesting but the dialogue and animation held it up. That one scene with the awesome animation really caught me off guard. The school mystery? Pretty awful incoherent mess. It jumped straight from "look, I have flying shoes" to "case resolved". The solution to a mystery isn't interesting when you have barely introduced it. You need to properly introduce the viewer to it, make it interesting by rejecting obvious solutions, slowly gives hints to what is really going on, and then give a satisfying solution.
I will hold my judgement for now, Siesta was cute, but getting rid of that "I knew everything from the start" detective with "magic tools that solves any situation" might be a good thing. Though I do kinda expect her to raise from the dead with a "exactly as planned" scene.
Um... I'll try to be nice, but this was really boring.
The animation on the plane was SICK, but the rest of it was dry af. The dialogue felt incredibly forced, and it only got worse by the time the Hanako-san "case" was going on.
Gonna give it a couple days, but I don't think I'll watch the next episode. Cheers to anyone who did enjoy it though: hope you continue to :)
I was bored out of my mind for a lot of it.
Was that because it was 50 mins long? Maybe
Will I watch the next episode? Yes
idk I mean I'm really undecided about this one, the next 2 or 3 episodes are gonna make it or break it for me. If it improves it's gonna be a seasonal favorite and if it doesn't I'll drop it. Sidenote, very cute girl.
I'm... looking forward to this. It's not horrible (even this episode manages to be better than the greatest trash i've seen, gonna be the twintail) and this episode was enough that I'm considering reading the LN. Actually, more like I will read the LN before next week assuming this fan-TL is decent, though considering only 4 volumes have been translated I hope the anime won't go further.
Something I can't help but notice is that siesta is definitely still an extremely important character despite already being dead. Though I guess that's not a surprise since you don't just spend two episodes on that only to completely abandon them.....usually.
I feel it is extremely important to point out a very specific point when "Twintail is Trash" comes up. I won't comment on the series itself, but it is very important to respect that the series handles the "angry heroine" correctly. In a lot of really trashy anime - hell, in a lot of good ones too - whenever another female gets close to the heroine's love interest, the heroine will lash out at the male instead of the other female. Twintail actually has a heroine that gets angry at other girls when they get intimate with the main character instead of beating the main character to a pulp.
I just want to make sure that respect and credit are given where they are due.
Im 13 minutes in at the time of writing, and this show is honestly losing hope. This was THE show I wanted to watch this season, and I will be continuing to watch it. The animation quality seems nice... until it comes into CG, it's some of the worst I have seen yet, Specifically when Siesta starts running on the plane seats. The story seems forced, however since we do not have too much explanations yet, I will not bash it for that at this current moment.
pretty damn good so far in my opinion, really loving Siesta even though shes gonna be gone in the next episode unless they do something where she comes back to life or some shit...but if anyone's seen Date A Live... do you think she(siesta) looks like Origami Tobiichi?
Okay, The 1st episode wasn't really bad as the other people say. I mean we all have different 'opinions.' For me, The 1st episode was quite interesting. Just think about it; A dead first-rate detective who is someone that can solve a case before it occurs is pretty interesting, right? And her name is Siesta. And She's also a waifu material. yeah, yeah... There's a lot of white short hair girls out there and her character design is pretty generic, but she's is pretty cute and lovely. Isn't that already enough reason to become a good waifu material?
Now let's proceed to what I was really here for...
Here's a little spoiler that is already pointed out in the title~ Siesta is already dead. The 1st episode was just a flashback, and it takes place 4 years ago from her past adventures
This is one of the animes that I'm really looking forward this summer 2021. And Honestly, I was quite surprised when I saw the 1st episode was 47:46 minutes long.
The animation was absolutely good. Especially in the airplane scene. This might be one of the animes that have the best animation this season. Though the cases and how it got solved was quite vague. There was nothing really in it that will make you go say "wow." The 'mystery' part of it wasn't really interesting, I guess. I have seen Detective Conan, and the mystery/cases here were really nothing. Even I, a trash weeb who wastes his time every day watching anime, and reading manga can solve this cases easily.
That being said, the 1st episode was okay. Siesta is very cute.(totally a waifu material) The animations were quite good. And Kimizuka Kimihiko was uh~ idk.
I'm looking forward to the next episodes, And hopefully, this anime will meet my expectations.
the main thing through my mind during all this is she looks like Tobichii Origami from Date Alive.
But while it looks interesting so far, being 45 mins long kinda too much, while the later half mostly there to build up the relationship between those two but feel like it could be cut out to fit 30 mins run time.
