Okay so me and my friend watched the first episode in dub because they have trouble reading subtitles, but I usually watch in sub. Is the Assassination Classroom dub good compared to sub, or should I switch to sub for the rest of the series?
Sub vs dub purism is a bunch of bullshit. Sometimes you feel like watching the sub, sometimes you feel like watching the dub. For me, English isn't my first language and though I have a great grasp of it now, I still find it comforting to be able to do english with subtitles and not have to only rely on my reading skills to get me through.
As for AssClass in particular, the dub is fantastic. Koro-Sensei, Irina, Mr. K, Karma, Sugino, Kayano, Nagisa, basically you name it they've got good VA. In basically all modern anime, VA is not going to be bad.
The only real differences between subs and dubs in anime past like 2013 are that there's some jokes that change through translation, but often the subtitles are the same in English and Japanese, so if you see a joke in the subtitles, you can switch to the japanese audio for a minute to see what the joke was in that version.
The other large difference is that Japanese VA tends to be a bit exaggerated. Personally, dear god I fucking despise Irina's Japanese voice it just doesn't seem to fit her. However, you know, there's some iconic moments in more popular anime. If you think about JoJo's, just parts 2 and 3 have "NIGERUNDAYOOOO," "SpeedwaGONNN," "Tsugini omae wa," "Ho? Mukatte kuru no ka?" and all sorts of other moments that are iconic. However, I personally always watch the dub whenever available because I think that since they put so much work into it it's not fair to the English VAs to not give it a listen.
