Bruh this shit is unironically the most boring show Ive ever watched. I literally fell asleep watching this how can anyone like this, I honestly want to know. I havent watched After Story yet which is supposed to be a lot better, but if that means having to sit through this steaming pile of trash then no thanks. I watched 7 episodes does it ever get better?
Edit: Before you keep telling me that I should just drop it, yes I will now that I read all of these comments. My initial question, if it wasnt obvious enough, was that I wanted to know whether or not things change or actually get interesting at some point of the show which doesnt seem to be the case.
dango dango dango dango dango daikazoku
yeah thanks for reminding me that the opening was absolute garbage aswell
that's the ending song
well its still bad
dango daikazoku is one of the best songs in existence what are u on about
True... Clannad is the best anime i've seen till now, and i don't think it will change, of course the first season of clannad isn't that entertaining, but that long buildup is definitely worth it, and dango daikazoku breaks my heart when i hear it, just like Roaring tides, Nagisa, Small palms and Toki wo Kizamu Uta.
I mean, if you don't like this style of story then don't watch it, but I think clannad's quality is fairly typical for a harem show. (Actually, it's a bit better than normal.) If you're wondering why everyone recs after story, it's because the story gets drastically different around halfway through after story.
When I was watching Clannad, I think I fell asleep to it 7 or 8 times. It wasn't a quick nap or anything of that sort, I would literally pass out of boredom and wake up the next day. Well, I was usually watching it at night, but still, it shouldn't put me to sleep like some fucking insomnia cure. So, what did I do? I dropped it, and you should do that as well. I don't care how supposedly great After Story is, it's not worth it.
Also, the character designs are fucking ghastly.
I sorta share your sentiment, Clannad was very average at the beginning and only started to pick up at the end of Season 1. What saved it mostly at the beginning was the comedy, but again, that's a reason people also don't bear the first 48 episodes of Gintama.
Honestly, if you don't like it so far, I would recommend you to not continue. And don't skip to After Story because you will understand nothing of what's happening.
honestly skip the rest of season 1 and watch after story, you'll miss a bit of characterization but there's a reason i rated AS more than double what season 1 got
i don't recall there being any must-know plot points from S1 needed in AS either, maybe read a summary or something
this is an alternative, but it does maybee take away from a possible connection to the story and to the characters. Clannad is a big part of why Clannad afterstory hits so hard. But i guess its possible to just skip to afterstory, i know there will be recap episode at tte end that will take you through it again anyway so maybee do that. I get the curiosity in wanting to watch something that is so popular..so i totally get your point.
this is with every anime. disappointed? just drop it no one forcing it down ur throat dud
I felt the same way after completing the series the first time. But I had just discovered Kyoani and, back then, I was determined to watch everything they produced so I didn't mind that Clannad was mid. I finished After Story later too just to satisfy my curiosity of where the plot was heading. There are definitely other shows that may fit your taste better if this series is too bland for you. It's ok to be disappointed when you leap into something with expectations that other people set. Time to move on to something new and (hopefully) better. :)
I would say, like the others, Clannad isn't for you. It's a very slow-paced show that looks into different types of family, the hardships they face and how they overcome it - the word "Clannad" is derived from "Clan" in Gaelic and is associated with family. If you weren't interested after 7 episodes then not much will really change.
While the story does change later on and After Story fleshes out some parts more, the core of the show doesn't change. It's very much about the journey, not the end. There is no "climax" as such that even other slice of life shows might have. If you watch it waiting for something to change you'll end up disappointed. I found the show and its take on various themes very interesting, but I was interested from around episode 3. Essentially, if you aren't interested now, you won't find how the story develops very interesting in my opinion.
One thing I'd like to mention is that Clannad (and After Story) is adapted from the visual novel. Some people might prefer the format of the show in the visual novel style. It's not cheap but it might be worth checking out if you feel you'd enjoy it more.
Im not arguing I wanted to know, which you wouldve known if you read my edit, whether or not the anime changed like half way through or something. I was genuinely curious cuz I heard a lot of good things about it but that doesnt seem to be the case. And if I dont like a show whats the point in finishing it?
"if that means having to sit through this steaming pile of trash then no thanks" my own ass.
I can understand why people can get bored of it, but even then, I sat down through it and thought it was neat. It's not good compared to After Story, sure, but it's definitely an iconic series that I think, every anime watcher should watch. Both Season 1 and Season 2.
All I can really say that it does get more interesting. Not more better, more interesting. Keep going, and the reward will be worth.
Also your take on the ED of Clannad will cause a mob to come after you and burn down your house daring that you dissed on the Dango Daikazou song.
Ah-hahahahah, finally someone who understands how shit Clannad is.
So I'll say this right away. It doesn't get any more amazing since you have already identified it as shit.
Each episode feels double as long, and it was just so so painful to finish the first season that the the saddest thing was me having to sit through 20+ episodes for the masterpiece acclaimed After Story.
Going into After Story it didn't get any more better (in fact After Story had, to my opinion, the worst arc in all of Clannad [beginning part, not the last one]).
I will say, in the benefit of After Story that it had better animation (not art, art was same style), and some part of the last episodes weren't as boring and stale compared to some of the earlier things.
