I’m wondering if a character has made anyone annoyed to the point that they threw the whole series away.
For me it was Yukino from Blue Exorcist. Can’t stand the dude. There were a lot of characters that I liked, but he completely ruined it for me so I tossed it lol
I mean if the MC is shit then ofc I'm gonna drop it
An example would be World Trigger, but there are a ton more than that
it was Tomoko from Watamote, I never really hated her character (I mean even weird characters are pretty funny) but she was pretty cringe-worthy and it came to me that the show didn't have my sense of humor. So I decided to drop it, though I recommend everyone to watch the show if they are into characters like Tomoko
WATAMOTE No Matter How I Look at It Its You Guys Fault Im Not Popular
JORAN THE PRINCESS OF SNOW AND BLOOD mistreats its trans character so badly that I couldn't stomach watching the rest of this show - I was already extremely iffy but was sticking around specifically because it had a trans character in it.
Ahhh that unfortunate to hear. I hate when they do trans characters like that.
As a writer, I know it's actually a fairly easy trap to fall into.
It's a classic trope to use transformations or transforming characters, such as mermaids, werewolves, and other shapeshifters as a way to thematically explore trans issues. But, all of those creatures are fictional. Trans people are not. So it absolutely does not work the other way.
There's really no excuse; Joran literally is using its trans character to push the idea that people will go insane thirsting for power and turn into monsters. Not great.
stop watching anime pls :D
Even if this flaw wasn't in the show, there's still a mountain of flaws. That character is far from the only bad thing going for the show, it has a terrible and inconsistent plot, and the characters are all one note. Honestly the only thing going for Joran is the artstyle and OP.
If thats the problem its okay but she just mentioned the mistreat of trans character like if thats the whole problem just stop watching anything if u really are getting offended by such a small dumb thing and drop it then.
Also the whole trans topic is a serious matter for some ppl and ppl like her makes the image of this topic/problem ridiculous with such a comment.
To be fair the title of the thread is "Ever dropped a series because of one character?" so it makes sense that they only mentioned the 1 issue.
I get where you come from though, I didn't see this case as a hit to anything related to the trans topic, I just saw it as shitty writing. And I do think people, especially in the anime community, are way too eager to slap an LGBT sticker on things. But if that's how they interpreted it, then you can't really stop them.
Yeah, like I said, I was already iffy on the show. It is very not good. But, I like seeing trans representation and I was willing to watch a show I didn't like if at least did its character justice. It didn't, so I dropped it.
This was far from the only reason I had to drop the show, it was just the final nail in the coffin, so to speak. Apologies if my original post didn't make that clear.
It's also very possible to read the character as "lying" about being a man in order to infiltrate the organization further, but I like to be optimistic. If that were the case, then that would be much worse than how I interpreted it.
cause of Mari
UNDERSTANDABLE. it got even more frustrating to me when i learned that in the manga she confesses to anna then gets together with the guy she spat on
Now i want to see that happen, so i can laugh
Matsu seriously deserved better tbh. He looks like a playboy, but was pretty genuine in his interactions. But Mari has the typical broken mean girl syndrome. It’s tolerable later in the series (in the manga)
If i’m not mistaken where I left off, everyone else else has gotten together except Keiichi and Matsu’s & lil sis.
I can't stand kids and that "March" girl got on my nerves because she was a "stupid child" (well her character was well written). Bothered me so much I was just on my phone during the whole episode. Even if she wasn't the MC, I didn't see any point in watching an anime I couldn't enjoy.
As a fan of the manga, those were hard chapters to get through and I'm currently struggling to watch the anime because of it. Hearing it instead of just reading it makes it worse imo, though I don't blame the voice actor as this is just a kid acting like a kid.
Honestly, if it weren't because I read the manga and am curious how the anime will adapt it, I probably would've dropped it because of her too
Zero no Tsukaima Futatsuki no Kishi
Louise. She was kinda tolerable in the first season, but i hated the starting episodes of season 2 all because of Louise. I almost dropped the show but for some reason i felt like i should keep watching, won't say my opinion changed later on
HighRise Invasion
I'd probably rename it as Thigh-Rise Invasion cause yeah..... It's the MC's thighs everywhere, which was pretty annoying.
Great Pretender
hate the mc
Yes, this one
Kyoukai no Kanata
The pink haired main heroine is so annoying, i'm usually fine if i like the characters appearance, but i don't like her appearance too and i don't like glasses which multiply my hate for her
i don't have a problem with glasses, i actually like them usually but yes there's this bizzare thing, the pink-haired girl always seemed annoying-looking to me and i can't figure out why
Fr, as i said i don't like glasses but it doesn't stop me from liking them as a characters even though i won't be attracted to them, but damn the pink haired girl annoying AF to the point i drop the show (which is very rare since i don't drop a show very often) but as you said, i also can't figure out why
Osamake Romcom Where The Childhood Friend Wont Lose
All the characters basically, none were likeable
Sakura from Naruto. I haven't decided yet if I want to drop it or not but I'm close to it.
Naruto
She doesn't get much screentime in second half of the canon episodes of the first series so I'd say give it a try. After the arc you're on she is pretty much a side character until start of Shippuden. And all of the fandom agrees that she is at her peak in first Shippuden's arc.
Thanks for the info. I think I made a mistake by watching it so late and after newer similar shows but I'll probably give it another try.
This is just my personal opinion and I can't say I'm an expert in the field (I don't even want to be) but modern mainstream shounen did not set the bar all that high so I don't think it should get in the way. Besides pacing having rougher times in couple of arcs, I would say the show aged well.
And of course skip the fillers.
Yes, this one:
Tomoki Sakurai really destroyed it for me...
Also, I only didn't drop Kanojo, Okarishimasu because in was a seasonal but Kazuya gets on my nerves so hard... I just endured it to see Chizuru on screen for a few more minutes every week.
i didnt drop princess jellyfish but i came close to it because i absolutely hated mayaya, quite literally one of the most annoying side characters ive ever endured (tbh the only character i actually enjoyed was kuranosuke)
RentaGirlfriend
RaG had the pleasure to be my first 1/10 piece of fiction.
Netoge no Yome wa Onnanoko ja Nai to Omotta
I usually like stuff like this, but the main girl was way too clingy and it got annoying
No, but was pretty close with Zenitsu and Senjougahara.
How can you hate senjougahara?
How can you not? She is an abusive bitch, who constantly hurts Araragi both verbally and physically.
I am actually with you. But she keeps Araragi in check. She becomes a much better character in the later seasons.
Well, that I don't know yet, I've only seen Bake and Kizu, but so far the only truly amazing thing was her confession. That was very genuine, beautiful, and honestly one of the best anime confessions ever.
Yeah she is one of those characters who take a but to warm up to. I hate tsunderes alot but by the end of the series she was uo their with hanekawa for me at least. But i totaly agree beginning of the series i hated her lol.
Zenitsu yeah I agree. Senjougahara?? Huh, you hate her so much? Well tbf you only have completed Bakemonogatari and Kizumonogatari. During Nisemonogatari you will start to notice differences (that first scene....will be yikes for you). Throughout the series she will be under character development, Nise has an important part and then during second season you will notice many changes as well.
I hope you do continue the series as you will find her more kind and affecionate towards Araragi (she will still tease Araragi verbally but now that they are close, they understand each other AND THEYRE SO CUTE WHEN THEYRE TOGETHER OMG)
Their relationship isn't shownstoo much in the series as there's no big reasons as the relationship is going really well and Monogatari is about problems. So you will not see many physical interactions between Senjougahara and Araragi after First Season.
As long as stuff like this never happens again, I can at least see myself not hating her as much...
But also, I've been told that there isn't much of her going forward, so hopefully, it'll be fine...
oh well.....hope you can endure that first Nisemonogatari scene lol
And you will see more of her, but it's more balanced. Other characters will be more relevant but that doesn't mean we won't get more Senjougahara arcs, but they're really different compared to Hitagi Crab. Now about Nisemonogatari, the first arc is confusing, its central focus is not in a single character but in multiple and Senjougahara is one of main ones there.
But as I mentioned before you will see after First Season less interaction between Araragi and Senjougahara and more of Senjougahara with other characters.
Black Clover
I tried to watch it but I couldn't finish even the first episode because of Asta's voice, was it necessary for him to shout all the time? I thought about giving it a second chance
