I'm nott saying it's bad but it was a simple romance without much development. It doesn't deserve so much, imo.
You said it yourself—it's a simple romance. Even though there are many now, back when Horimiya started, there weren't many like it. Horimiya elegantly treads the line between drama and simplicity. It's a very good slice of life. The side characters complement the two main characters. It's simple and sweet; that's enough of a reason for its popularity. With that being said, Horimiya isn't loved by 'everyone'. I'm pretty sure a handful of people don't like it.
I am the one of the handful people that don't like it. I am the kind of watcher that watches anime or anything for entertainment only. It's hard for me to get emotional. The visuals were great in this anime. The only thing people liked is the wholesomeness and cuteness. And I didn't like it. Because there was nothing else in the story.
Of course, I am single. I never had romance in my whole life. Other people maybe able to relate to this anime and I praise the anime for being simple and real in some parts.
No story
Well I mean its a simple slice of life romance, there's not meant to be heavy plot points
Quintessential Quintuplets is also a slice of life, romance but I like that one
Again, I'll highlight the keyword this time, SIMPLE slice of life. Quints had a storyline going from the very start, with very big plot points. Horimiya doesn't, it's literally just their day to day high school life.
Edit : Should also been known that the anime skipped almost the entire manga and just went straight to the ending. Even with that there really isn't any big storyline anyways. Though I checked your profile and it seems you've never read a manga so doesn't really matter.
I don't mind if the story is simple and there is no big plot points (like Saiki K or Kobayashi) but I don't like it when there's just romance. Well, I knew that Horimiya is just a simple romance slice of life and said this in some other thread related to this anime. This show is good but not for me.
Yeah. I heard that they skipped a lot of stuff but they were all like stand-alone slice of life stuff.
Even though there are many now
Could yoi recommend some other wholesome cute, simple romances like horimiya? (I loved it's characters personality)
I have watched tonikaku kawai & my little monster tho.
Horimiya's main part is its wholesomeness. Very nicely done. Not overly dramatic, nor overly laid back but a good balance. Specially the character developments for all the characters tho lot of those were missed in the anime since it cut of a decent chunk to cover the full thing in 12 eps.
Any other wholesome anime like horimiya?
for me horimiya is on a different level but some other similar ones would be
Engaged to the Unidentified
Tsuredure Children
engaged to the unidentified is a gem. really loved it.very fluffy and cute
Yep, have watched tsuredure children. And it can definitely induce diabetes.
About engaged, it has been in my list for some time. Seems like it is also gonna be quite sweet.
If ur actually looking for the best of the best fluffy romcom out there, then otonari tenshi is def top the list
The Angel Next Door Spoils Me Rotten
the manga recently began and it even got an anime announced just a few days ago (thought i dont expect it to live up to its source material) but the light novel of it was just freaking diabetes. as per the prev fan translator for the series (now retired since it got licensed)
it really hits u with all the fluffiness. If ur a romcom enthuasist and can read novels definitely recommend to try it out
P.S.: if u havent tried reading novels before, do suggest checking this out. if u get into it, might give u the motivation to read other lns and enjoy more better stuff since source material > adaptation
I read the few chapters of manga, and the progress/development seems sooo slooowww.
How is it for the LN? And which sute you read them on?
No, I don't love it.
But I don't agree with your point on No development. It has, and some praise it, because of the development it gives to every character in the series, minor or not.
I don't hate it, and if it wasn't for the voice acting & Cloverworks animation, I probably would have disliked it.
its a romance show thats actually a romance, thats why.
romance shows typically have 0 romance in the slightest (cough kimi ni todoke cough), or take 48 episodes for the characters to even confess, with nothing but cockblocks like a phone ringing during a kiss scene happening beforehand, or the characters are just generic archetypes like tsunderes, or the show is 99% comedy and 1% not romance like kaguya-sama.
Horimiya takes likable, relatively unique characters, puts them together in like episode 2, and follows their relationship (which is what we actually give a shit about in a romance show, not the buildup, cockblocks and stupid "misunderstandings" and dense idiot MCs)
its not the best, but its definitely up there, it just falls off in the second half when it starts to lose focus on the main couple.
Agreed. I like its premise but the whole "different identities at home" quickly took a
dive and shifted to plain slice-of-life which I'm not into. Plus, the characters feel really
unnatural to me for some reason so I can only enjoy bits and pieces of the story. Both
the manga and anime are disappointments for me.
Characters Growing:
This is the one thing I appreciate about it.
Wholesome::
Yeah uhhhhh, I'm very comfortable with shoujo romances. So I see it all the
time anyway and this being 'wholesome' isn't new for me like it is for others.
I haven't actually seen anyone who loves it. I liked the show when it became a lighthearted episodic school SoL based around the side charas (yuki best girl), but literally everyone I've seen liked that part the least.
It's got more development (yes, between the main couple) than a lot of romances do, though.
In my opinion its not like many romance stuff who is stuck at "do i love her?" "do she loves me?"
Its bringts everything straight up on the point, and its in my opinion wholesome and funny, also Charakter Design is really nice imo. Its a feel good Anime with interesting aspects.
Additionaly they set a Fokus on almost every Charakter, what i think gives the anime variety without getting stuckt in some relationsship
(Anime Only: )
and they complete the story without, "its over read the manga" or "wait 99 years for a secound season". They picked up the most important Moments from the Manga, of course they could tell more, because they dont adept everything but its okay, it dont feels rushed for me like Promised Neverland S2.
But like @MoNniI21HaJ said, i saw enough ppl who dont like it, for example some manga reader, or one friend of mine.
The anime or the manga? I've seen the anime, and I totally agree with you. I've heard the manga's much better though.
My problem with it is thatafter Hori and Miyamura get together, I feel like they just kind of went over side characters that I didn't have a reason to care about. It started off good enough, and it definitely had potential, but they rushed the confession.
People love it because of it's vanilla execution.
No cringe characters, no misunderstanding driven story, no cockblock phone ringing effects, no love triangle, no useless jealousy.
It just works like it should do in other shows as well. The characters are understanding each other and actively trying to solve their own doubts & problems.
You know, they feel like humans, not written characters created to deliver fake, forced and annoying "entertainment" to squeeze out 24-36 episode from a kiss with the same repetitive & annoying events I've just mentioned.
HoriMiya feels honest to the romance genre. It isn't the best romance, but it is the best vanilla romance show for sure, by a long shot.
It may not be the craziest of anime but it definitely fulfilled its intended purpose. It did everything it could do perfectly which is what makes it so great in my opinion. It's pretty simple but I find it hard to find things not good about it which is why I personally rated it a 9. It may be simple but its entertaining and a pretty good rom-com.
i started horimiya since the beginning of it being translated into english and have kept up with the new manga releases. in the beginning, i really loved the simple will they wont they of the series because it felt like a realistic slice of life portrayal of a high school romance. i also just really loved learning more about izumi when it would show you his struggles and his confidence issues. the anime did a pretty okay job in my opinion of adapting the show, but i didnt feel like it really captured what made horimiya great imo
my love for the series however has kinda gone down a bit though, so i understand how you feel. instead of telling a story of these two characters getting to know each other and wondering when they get together, they actually together pretty quickly. which in some cases is good and others not so good. the story now feels like episodic shorts which im not as much a fan of. but i do still love and care about the characters and so i continue to read it
