Or judge someone because of their taste?
I've tried to resist the temptation to do this since media preferences are subjective, and generally aren't a true reflection of the person. But maybe there are exceptions?
I mean, if there's some person who's just super into say, SAO, DarliFra and stuff like that which I'm not really into, I'm not gonna go over the top in judging them. We just enjoy different things, I guess.
If there's someone who's obsessively into creepy loli anime and is super uncomfortable to interact with, yeah I'm gonna judge them.
I feel like there's different levels to it, depending on just how much you dislike/disagree with the content they're interested in.
Actually yes i do believe we should judge other peoples taste.
BUT the problem is HOW we judge others here if you ask me. Let me put it this way
First, if we don't judge and/or discuss the taste the producers never know "what is good?"
Second, we can't improve our taste either. My taste isn't same with a horny teen which all they care about ecchi fanservice.
Though i do like fanservice if it's done right. This effect the producer so all they care about is to make money so they just throw ecchi on screen. Even a quality work you can see they're force to put some "what the fans want"
For example after the producers figured out people like traps/lolis/etc. the type of characters actually increased in the anime. Some people actually liked it or just wanted to meme or just joke about it, it doesn't matter. It draws attention so they put it whatever it decreased the quality or not.
Look at High school of dxd. Because of what i just talking about they draw them more soft, childlike. I give this example because it actually shows clearly that anime change by the communities desires.
Again, it's actually HOW we should judge it because no need to be rude. Doing it because of save the quality of it should be the matter.
I'm not saying you shouldn't like it. I'm saying you shouldn't expected on every show. Give credits to an actually good show despite nothing you ask for (whatever it's boobs or traps or both?) is there. If you give credits more than it deserves you end up having darling franxxx if you give credit less than it deserves than you lose gems.

Ask for an anime, not just any anime but an anime that we need not that we want.
I agree that anime changes by the community. They make things that they believe we like. But I believe they figure out what people like through numbers/money instead of opinion. As people feel more confident to invest on projects with successful precedents. In other words, commercially successful anime have the power to affect the landscape/composition of genres. But their effects are usually at least 1 to 2 years late because production of anime requires time.
For example, In 2011, Infinite Stratos aired and surprisingly became one of the best-selling anime of all time. In 2013, Date A Live are adapted after that and also manged to be commercially successful. Both of them aren't very respected anime by a lot of people in the community, but they've proven that "school battle harem" LN adaptation can make money. This leads to the outbreak of those anime at around 2015 and 2016, but it turns out that they won't sell anymore, so they stop making anymore of them.
I'm not saying producers won't take opinions into account, but numbers are way more effective. Therefore the better way to "shape the industry" in your will is to find a way to spend money on anime that you think is good. Paying for the anime you like works way better than judging.
That is also true but not my point. What you pointed out is the marketing part. Where numbers and experiments happening. While yes it looks same but my point is more like commercials.
Think about it like someone use the word "Dominos" instead of "pizza"
Because the community get used to this aspect they use it more and more.
And interestingly enough just by clicking a product's commercials you can make them earn money as much as like you pay it.
PS: I believe there are more suited words for it instead of "marketing" or "commercials" but my non-native english is limited this much, sorry :)
I don't get your problem. Either way, you will judge people, even if it's only subconscious. Just don't start "sperging" about how your taste is superior to others or something.
Personally, I believe that "taste" has a lot to do with someones personality "type", life experience and other characteristics, thus there will be natural differences.
Also, judging is also a normal thing too, you do it, I do it, animals do it, just chill fam.
As someone said earlier, it's very important to know how to say your opinion.I use to think that nowadays,if you put something that's not normal or not in acordance with the masses, you end up being slaped by tons of replies by weebs/elitists/haters and whatever god damn religion there is.
Some ppl like idk,Naruto for example, some Eva,some Eromanga Sensei and thus they form a so called taste in their minds. It's not bad to recommend them something that you like so much, but since they like a certain genre (like they love ecchi and you give 'em a drama) it might drop it,saying things like it's not good, meh, bruh dafq was that? and so on.
Maybe there are some of you that get triggered by seeing an anime to a random person with a very damn low rating on it,while you consider waaay better. But that's the opinion you get,cz maybe he/she(only 2 genders : / ) is a more fan of ecchi, traps, boobs, comedy and so on.
Trying to change someone's taste is like defusing a bomb. You either end up convincing him after a long time or you get hated all over by just impling that maybe he should change his taste.(sometimes he replies
with a smart move that shut you down(fkin weeb/elitist block),realising logic and a nice conversation were gone )
In th end what can I say, tastes are not discussed. But where daqf is the fun anyway then? sighs I guess we need some entertainment from time to time, but at least we need to know when we should stop arguing someone.(who wants to be hated by everybody?)In these days you can be what you want.(fk ya William)
Bonus maybe i haven't explained too well for everybody but i think this video will do:
I think what's most important is everyone realizing that no matter how good their favorite anime/manga is, there are flaws in it. Big surprise, nothing is perfect. These people who get extremely upset over others judging their taste are not usually realizing the flaws in it which is why they get so mad over people criticizing it.
To some people, realizing "flaws" would ruin an anime for them, therefore they are happy to not realizing them. Telling them where "the flaws" is is no difference from taking away enjoyment from them (also known as "ruining fun"). Judging accomplishes nothing but harming their experience.
I'm not saying that people should not criticize anime, but just don't be KY when doing so. For example, try to feel whether a person is asking for your honest opinion, or just sharing happiness after watching an anime. If it's the later, it's better to keep our mouth shut.
eh you will judge anyone about anything, it's just in our nature, the important thing is how much you let it influence that one judement about the rest. animefans oftentimes just forget that the taste is just a small fraction about this person. like will judge someone by their appearence as ugly/beautiful however you know it doesn^t say anything about their personality
for example you check out a persons profile which is full of his favorite anime, that's the only information you can gather so far about this person, you will judge based on their taste if you want to follow him/her or not.
later by chance you two join the same discussion. normally you will make a new judgement based on what he says or not since it's your first conversation and add it to your impression, but unfortunetly i more often see people taking that first impression and include it as an arguement, those people are those who are too influenced by their first impression.
It depends. Some anime/manga are really bad no matter how others says it's good, but there are very few exceptions when this happens. Boku no Pico for example - I think it's obvious what anyone should think about it.
I don't judge someone else's tastes as long as they're not being smart-asses and trying to make me feel bad for what I like. You leave me alone, I leave u alone too. Anyway I get along with many people here that don't have the same tastes as me. The most important thing is to enjoy what you are watching/reading and don't make fun of others.
It's also not okay to try and change someone else's opinion, I at least wouldn't try that. If I say I didn't enjoy X anime stop insisting on me because my opinion won't change, no matter how I respect you.
I don't see how that would matter anyway, what good would you do by judging someone. You'll only possibly hurt that person, nothing more.
when it comes down to it, people will subconsciously judge someone whether they try to or not. however, i think it's really stupid to be mean spirited about it just because someone has "mainstream" taste or whatever the fuck people are calling it nowadays. i don't understand why some people get so personally invested in another person's taste
