Just want to know some opinions
I don't have much of an opinion to be honest. Despite this, I doubt I could sit there and watch hardcore mecha shows, not really my thing. I don't like the idea of watching a show revolving around mecha and using full CGI (not done well) as it is the main part of the story. I haven't read anything to do with mecha so not sure.
Shows I liked:
Code Geass Lelouch of the Rebellion
86 EIGHTYSIX
Gurren Lagann
DARLING in the FRANXX
Shows I didn't like:
Hundred
Undefeated Bahamut Chronicle

Mecha is fantastic right now, but only if you're already an existing fan (this is especially the case for Gundam). In the past few years Gundam fans have gotten Unicorn, Thunderbolt, Narrative, and Hathaway which are fantastic, but they are only good if you've gotten caught up with the forty years worth of source material which isn't ideal for new fans. Iron Blooded Orphans did come out in 2015 and it is also great, but it just didn't make waves like Sunrise thought it would.
Then you have other series like Full Metal Panic! which got its fourth season after 12 years back in 2018 which again was fantastic but there's still a decent amount of source material to get through to really enjoy it. Also in 2018 you had Darling in the Franxx which I personally loved but I'm definitely in the minority with that one. I can totally understand its flaws and why it was a real turn off for a lot of people.
Overall mecha is as strong as ever for me, but it needs to start appealing to new fans if it wants to survive. Plus it needs to not trip over it's shoelaces like Franxx did to keep people engaged. Hopefully AMAIM: Warrior at the Borderline or the new Mobile Suit Gundam: The Witch from Mercury coming out will be newcomer friendly.
I would say that i live and breath mecha (the real robot type), so personally i love it. Evangelion and Gundam has become a cornerstone of my personality and life, it has given me so many hobbies and it has affected me on a fundamental level, from just watching anime, reading manga and building gunpla (Gundam Plastic Models), to having an effect in what career i want to pursue or just inspired my work in countless ways. Also huge mechs are just cool as shit.
So far from everything I've watched, the actual mecha aspect hasn't affected my
enjoyment. I do usually find the mecha scenes themselves the REALLY boring part
of the animes, however none of the mecha animes I watched technically focused
on the mecha part. The story and characters were what kept me happily going in
them. So far, I've enjoyed majority of the mechas that I've completed.
Code Geass Lelouch of the Rebellion

Promare
Only one I didn't like (in reality - hated)
Neon Genesis Evangelion
