What did you think of the episode?
Edit:
so good! i was kinda worried this would be a 4 minute anime since the manga has such short chapters but they made a amazing adaptation, i really dont remember the order of events that happened in the manga, but i like that in the first episode the romance between MC's is already sparking!! cant wait for next week
YESSSS BRO ATLAST
after how they fucked up Jahy-sama I was really scared of this adaptation too. But they honestly well exceeded my expectations. The colors are bright, the animations bubbly and the voice acting is on point too. I'm up-to-date with the manga and honestly, this might even be better than it. If the show keeps going on the same way, all the anime-only fans can expect greatness.
For those not familiar with the source material, it is a manga with usually 4 pages per chapter, with each chapter only being loosely connected. And I think they did an awesome job here, it did feel disconnected in a few spots, but nothing too significant and it is just as adorable as the manga. Loving it so far.
Taking a look at the first 10 chapters again, and wow, they really have been creative here. The narrative in the anime appears to be mostly original, but they are mixing in chapters from the manga out-of-order such that they feel connected.
Example:
We also have chapters 3-5 being skipped (with chapter 5 introducing Kurobe which did not appear in this episode), which will probably be in a later episode. Chapter 5.5/ex.1 is the kids meal scene and having a random extra image at the end with Futaba biting in a burger with ketchup flying everywhere, which the anime then used to extend that scene a bit. Her grandpa going "Who's the bastard!" is from chapter 23, but the contents around the messages has been completely changed. The scene with Tsukishiro sneaking up on Futaba and saying "Good morning" is from chapter 73, but no Russian language and vodka, and she says "Good day" instead.
I am in love with this show already. The animation and art style are super clean, the voice acting is great, the writing is both hilarious and feels really grounded; this was just too good. I haven't read the manga at all, but if this continues to blow me away I'm going to for sure.
Have a great week, everyone: see ya next episode! :)
Copied from my status update:
Senpai ga Uzai Kouhai no Hanashi (My Senpai is Annoying!) episode 1 aired today! I went in with high expectations, since I've loved this manga for a long time now, and Doga Kobo, the studio behind it, has been consistently excellent with everything I've seen. And yet despite my high expectations I was blown away by how they did it. Supremely fun first episode, plenty to love for longtime readers and newcomers alike. Highly recommend for anyone who enjoys romances with adult characters, and office settings, and for anyone looking for a drama-free slice of life. I can't wait to see more.
After skimming some earlier chapters, I agree with what other viewers said, with it seeming like a lot of anime-original content has been created to fill the gaps in the manga. But with the manga's relatively plotless episodic slice of life nature, I think that's going to be a positive.
K-On! made the same move back in 2009-2011 for the same reason, and the anime was much, MUCH better than the manga, so it's a good move to make if you do it right. I hope it works out here, too.
That's true, and it really worked with K-On. I can usually tell when an anime is a 4koma adaptation, but KyoAni changed/filled in so much with K-On that I genuinely had no idea until I decided to read the manga for the 2 omitted volumes.
In any case, I've personally loved every Doga Kobo anime I've seen, so I trust the studio behind Senpai ga Uzai, especially considering this first episode was excellent.
Is the Senapi Annoying? YES!
Well, I did like Green-hair & ponytail, but that's pretty much it. She steals the episode, and I started to see these similarities in every SoL Anime, and this ain't different.
I have feeling this'll be feeling the gap that Dragon Maid S left in the previous season.
Also,
This is Amazing.
My favorite scene would be that text she got from her Grandpa, when she said she's climbing the steps of Adulthood. ° ͜ʖ ͡ -
This starting episode was good; I think it'll make a good wind-down after a day if it keeps up like this; just a good vanilla SoL.
I really had no clue what to expect from this story, but I forgot it's doga kobo which is basically immediately enough for me to be confident I won't have any problems with character designs.
Having not going into this show with any expectations, it certainly surprised me with its healthy dose of wholesomeness and comedic timing to land into sitcom/romcom territory, and doing it without fanfare.
I'm getting Ore Monogatari vibes, Takeda is a big guy with a big heart, and actually smart and sensible, with the MC being realistic in her demeanour and not a lovestruck goofy teenager.
I'm looking forward to seeing how this show develops, being more rooted in reality, it makes for a pleasant watch with more grounded characters.
