As the title says, when do you rate stuff?
Personally, I rate it whenever I've got a solid idea on how good it is, whether it's after I finish it or after only 3-4 episodes.
Though when it comes to the MHA anime, I rate it as soon as I start it, if I recall correctly, basing it off my opinions of the arcs it's gonna adapt.
I just rate on overall enjoyment, nothing complicated
by that logic most anime would be a 10 for me... we always have to consider how much effort the anime-ka poured into the series, Animation/plot/direction and ofc opening/ending themes are very important too.
unless it's your job to rate stuff i find it pretty pointless to rate based on anything other than enjoyment
that said, you do you so i can't criticize the way people rate their stuff as long as they don't do it with my way
It may not be our job to rate them, but it is our duty to do so. Why? Because you have to pay respect to the effort those people put into making those anime, if they are crap, they'd want to know, so that they can make something better next time. If people did it half-heartedly just by the grade of enjoyment we would most likely get sh4tty garbage every season without a doubt.
sorry brah I don't think Hayao Miyazaki or Hideaki Anno is reading ur reviews XDDDDDDDDDDD
They never do that directly, the studio or someone that does the marketing analysis focuses on that. Sites like MAL, Anilist and others are good reference for international licensing and overall interests of the viewers, knowing what the people want helps them deciding their next project, nowadays it is profit over passion.
boring, i ain't gonna watch anime in my free time for a reason like that
if i like it, i rate it highly. people always gonna complain anyways that every season we get garbage lmao, so that doesn't really matter
and btw, something being crap or not is based on people's opinions, aka how much they enjoyed it which is reflected in the ratings, so the creators are always gonna know what the majority will think of their series anyways
Yeah, for some studios/creators it is like that, but others do read the reviews and fix their problems
Ratings have no benefits.
They ALSO have a bunch of negatives.
So I never do it ^^
Wait, what negatives?
I get some people don't bother, but I don't see any negatives other than maybe drawing in some people who go like 'hey how could you rate this anime like that? It's clearly way better/worse, why?!' and not being reasonable and stuff.
Giving numbers to things I love feels dumb - even a 10/10:
I don't put numbers on people, sceneries, songs, food. So ..... why would I
give a number to anime? I'm watching to enjoy my time. Not to be a critic.
Scoring ruins enjoyment:
If even in the tiniest of ways. It makes me overthink anime. I may give something
I like a lower score than another show simply because I'm concerning myself with
the fact that I probably like the other one more. If I don't think about that factor, I
can love almost everything I watch till completion to the fullest.
Feelings are arbitrary:
Animes I watched years ago aren't always ones I have the same feelings on now.
There are quite a couple I used to love that I dont care about now. Similarly there
are a few I rewatched to find i love them so much more than I used to. With the
first of these, it leaves me conflicted on scores.
2 Extra reasons that aren't important but are true;
It's quieter:
It used to be fun conversing with people over why we scored things differently.
But honestly, I'm over it and I'd rather not have people randomly ask me now.
List looks nicer without them:
Having things I love scattered all around it is better than having the bottom
filled with a bunch of stuff I don't like. I could have still set it that way in the
past but like, the numbers out of order felt strange.
Hm, I see... this feels a little like subjective negatives or something, to me... ah, I'm making no sense am I?
Like... personally, rating stuff doesn't really ruin my enjoyment, maybe partially because enjoyment is a factor in my rating, but your point there does make sense, though I don't feel that way.
Perhaps. A lot of people seemed to agree with me when I posted it before. It's not like it technically ruins my enjoyment. That's why I said "tiniest." But it's just that its SO nice to watch an anime and never concern myself with what score I'm gonna give it. It's like just casually watching a movie with your family. You don't really worry about what number you're gonna put on the film once it's over.
And this is especially true for me who literally spent nearly a decade of my life just watching stuff without actually having anilist. So getting this account and suddenly putting numbers on the stories I love ....... I don't know. Something about that felt really wrong.
Besides, there's 4 other points besides just enjoyment for why I hate the idea of scores.
I rate it based on what I've seen so far, it works more like a prediction of what the rating might end up being once I get to the end. Sometimes it turns out to be accurate and the rating I put there when I was roughly halfway through the series maintains itself, or maybe it can get higher/lower depending on how it unfolds.
