Just watched AOT 3 episode 1 and it was awesome. The animation and artstyle are all so well done. I just couldn't stay still watching the episode!
But there are a few things here and there that were kind of either bugging me or just not on point. The opening sadly is not hype as Sasageyoo. But hey it's still pretty decent. Also, as a manga reader they skipped and actually changed a significant amount of scenes. For better or for worse depending on the scene.
Hype for episode 2!!!
I really hope they add back in all the Historia backstory scenes. Those are really important for her character and later plot development. Plz oh God let it be animated ~!
Quoting a post on Reddit which explains certain scenes:
Will it be faithful to the source material?
The author of the manga, Isayama Hajime, revealed in an interview included in the Season 2 Blu-ray boxset that he was “disappointed” with his work on Volumes 13-16 (which will be covered in Season 3). He says: “Hopefully, now that Season 3 is being made, I’ll have the chance to wipe away that regret and replace it with something I’m proud of.” This indicates that there will be some differences between the manga version and the animated version, but we don’t know yet exactly what those changes will be like.
Based on the Season 3 premiere event, it is evident that the pacing and order of certain scenes is being shifted around. Some events were shortened, some were apparently skipped over, and some were moved to different points of time with different contexts. Until the rest of Season 3 airs, it will be difficult to tell how extensive the changes will be. However, it seems as if the core story will remain identical to the manga, and will simply be executed differently.
Actually, I think that's a good thing. I don't remember any titan fight in that part of the manga. Is just all "humans vs humans" like in the first chapter of the third season... And Eren being kidnapped again
If they'll animate all this arc like in the manga, this season will be really disappointing and boring (at least, to me). Hopefully, this season will have 24 chapters instead 12. I think we can see more titans fights again in the second half.
The only part that I loved in this arc of the manga, is the last one: (the revelations about Eren powers and the fight against the titan Reiss).
About the new opening... it was really disappointing to me. It doesn't fit with the anime at all and it doesn't have any action scene giving you an idea about what you'll see during this season. Anyway, I'm sure they'll add another opening in the second half (chapters 13-24).
Great first episode! I remember this arc being one of the slower ones from the manga, but it will be interesting to see how it is done in the anime.
I also really like the new opening, it's not as epic sounding as the openings from the first two seasons but it has this really calm and soothing feel to it which I love.
Sooo...with the introduction of a new character at the end...at first it seemed to have tied in with what was going on in this episode, but to me it was executed quite poorly and the character was introduced so abruptly it left a bad taste in my mouth. Literally moments after Levi mentions the dude and somehow connects everything to him (...a little bit too easily if you ask me? I mean I know it's a 'small world' but there was no conclusive evidence or suspicions prior to this moment...I don't think the fact that 'they are not professional kidnappers' really points at one person but who knows seems like a cliche move to me). There was not even a clue/hint of the motive for killing which makes it appear meaningless...and quite frankly not appealing.
I will say that I have to say that I can't really judge how this season will turn out by this first episode...but I shall wait and see...
It was implied that Levi knew Kenny in the past, and they knew that a special squad of Military Police operatives were tailing them. It's possible that Levi knew Kenny was somehow involved with the organization, and that he would most likely be the one leading the squad that was chasing after him and the rest of the team due to their past relations.
Wow this episode jumped through 7 chapters that is quite a lot, They probably just wanted a stronger first episode that wasn't all dialogue and things will be reordered. Still I hope uprising doesn't get butchered and they do an anime equivalent of speed reading, because I want others to enjoy this the same way I did and sure its not like its gonna be terrible if they do it slightly different but the enjoyment of this arc really comes in the characters and dialogue not action.
Also this new OP is amazing.
Like the new OP as song, however it doesn't fit SnK.
well, definitely not fit the last 2 seasons, but it's for season 3
I think this opening it doesn't fit in any season at all. The music is very soft and friendly, and the animation it doesn't show any action scene or anything about this season, just the new character for 5 seconds. And the worst thing... where are the titans? I haven't seen a single titan in all the opening. Or at least enemy soldiers (since I don't remember titans in this part of the manga).
However, all the previous openings were powerful, with lot of titans and action scenes. Also the lyrics fit perfectly:
