What did you think of the episode?
Not my words but I'd like to share his/her words.
All my hair was standing throughout the entire episode. At the very least, the wait was worth it.
I would also like to clarify and address the validity and purpose of this whole operation for people still thinking that the Federation is no different from the Republic in their treatment of Shin and Gang.
First of all, the Federation is not the same as the Republic. Yes, no nation is perfect and the Federation is not exempted from this. However, this is a totally realistic approach by the Federacy.
Sending in a small squad of the most elite units in the nation while launching a massive joint 3-prong counter-offensive and it just happen that the Federacy's most elite unit is the remains of what's used to be an oppressed group of people from another country.
Some of you may not have been paying attention, but the Morpho is capable of levelling the Capital of all 4 known nations from where it's resting right now. The estimated distance of the Spearhead base of the Republic is roughly 100km from Sankt Jeder, the capital of the Federation and the Morpho is situated right in between that.
The Morpho's effective range is about 400km. If the Federation, the Kingdom, and the Alliance do nothing, they would be defeated as soon as the morpho was repaired. So the plan is to have the entire western front attack the Legion, alongside the Kingdom and Alliance forces in an attempt to distract the Legion, thus allowing Grete to fly towards the Morpho virtually undetected for the first few minutes, allowing the Nordlicht Squadron to attack the Morpho directly.
With the Main Forces distracted, the only Legion forces Shin and the gang have to face is the Morpho's guards. I also don't know why the anime omitted this part but the rest of Nordlicht's squadron is from an ethnic group of warlike people from the northern territories of the Federation so not only Shin and the gang were the best, but the rest of their squadron was also filled with people who were born to fight.
The Nordlicht squadron's operation may seem suicidal and simply a throw-away last-ditch effort, do understand that the joint offensive itself is POINTLESS and SUICIDAL. However, despite this, the Federacy has betted on the 86's capabilities to destroy the Morpho. Yes, they will be the least missed, they were not wrong in saying this.
Yes, everyone sees them as monsters amongst men, but they are not sending them because they are, they're sending them because they're the 86. The Western Front High Command chose them because they are the only group of people who successfully survived for who knows how long on Legion territory. They're not sending them because they're the 86, the Federation is sending them because they are the 86.
Not because they are war freaks who no one will miss, but because they are the 86. Battle-hardened and proven soldiers, unflinching in combat and unfazed by death, they are the 86, named fighters of the Republic. Their operation was not approved due to hatred nor discrimination, but because of blind hope and expectations, hoping that it is not yet too late to save Humanity. Yes, the operation itself is suicidal, but it is exactly as Shin said last episode:
This is my words:
I'd like to toy with Lil Frederica, she is so cute. Great Episode
Ending of the episode was lit
Lena, I miss you <3
Hoo boy, we're in the thick of it now! Frederica's breakdown in her room with Nouzen was a good moment - especially given her guilt at the fact that she's the last surviving member of the royal family, she's spent most of her life having those things that she cares about be ripped away from her and destroyed. Her fear that Nouzen could suffer a similar fate, that he would die without her telling him not to go or at least tell him how she feels, is rough.
Nouzen is rightfully upset, in a way - he feels at his most alive on the battlefield (that smile was certainly indicative), and being "commanded" not to go is like telling him that he has no use. Is it harsh, to be sure. He and the other 86s, like I mentioned in last episode's thread, know that their mission is basically a suicidal one, yet they accepted it. They (and Nouzen more than anyone else) knows what fate awaits them if they die against the Legion. Kids they may be, but in full knowledge of what they do.
Ernst's comment about destroying the world certainly is foreboding. Not much to say about that one, but given that he has a preoccupation with the 86s and their treatment (especially in the first scene of the episode), I'll be interested to see what direction that takes.
The only knock against the season right now is that it's not doing the best job of balancing between Milize and Nouzen. The first season managed to give each of them their own time to flourish as characters. Them being separated for this long is completely fine (I expected as much), but Milize has been largely out of the picture. The last we saw of her, she was about to command the forces against the invasion from a few episodes ago. We're left in the lurch as to what happened. Even though I doubt that she's actually dead (I haven't read ahead, so I don't know), the second season has a bit of a balance issue.
Either way, nice episode, albeit a slower-paced one.
Great comments! I'm glad this episode kinda showed anime-only people that the Federacy isn't like the Republic. All those soldiers going to the front lines to most likely die just so the 86 can have time is pretty hard hitting. In their final moments all they wanted was for the 86 to successfully stop the Morpho and thus save everyone they had waiting for them back home.
Good episode
Without Milize Vladilena influence, all this 86 four needs a therapy and all out them are out their mind. They seriously want to go to war sooo much and they are all suicidal at this point
I feel like there is personality differences in 86 four in season 1 and 2. I feel like mentally they just keep getting worse and Nouzen Is less less nicer, much much colder and much much more stubborn. The less are no better
Milize Vladilena needs to knock some sense into these guys.
