Hello there! Recently I've been watching an anime which I truth be told haven't been enjoying much.
I thought I finished it today, when suddenly, I realized it had a second season of the same length.
I can't stand to quit partway through something, though I can't stand the painful cliches of the anime.
Any tips on quitting the anime?
I know I'm not quitting an addiction, but it's really bothering me.
Do you mean stop watching anime in general, or just dropping that show?
My bad, should have specified that I meant quitting that show.
If you don't enjoy the show you probably shouldn't keep watching it. The average score is low as well, so I don't think you're missing out on anything by dropping it. If you're really against dropping it after having seen one season already, finish it, but I don't see the point in watching something you don't find entertaining.
I'm somewhat of a completionist myself. My theory is that if an additional season is its own separate entry , I can choose to drop or watch. If I start that new season and it sucks, tough dice. I'm currently experiencing a similar ordeal with a couple of sequels (Aldnoah.Zero 2 and Fist of the North Star 2).
Ultimately, it's up to you. If you can't find any enjoyment in the first season, why bother moving on to a sequel?
I say, since it bothers you, that you finish this anime, and then, next time, more carefully plan for the anime you pick out so that it doesn't happen again. Learn from your mistakes is pretty much what I'm saying.
I usually don't waste time watching something others consider garbage/that's getting bad reviews because there are just too many anime to care for the less greater ones.
If I'm not sure on what quality a show is, I decide to watch like 2-6 episodes to see if I like it.
There's also a lot of moments where I watch "bad" shows because I personally like them.
If you're having issues dropping a show you're not enjoying, it's probably because you haven't watched all that much anime. There's a lot of really good stuff out there, and watching bad shows just delays getting to the good ones. So don't look at this like you're breaking some sort of principal. Look at it like you're taking a step towards having better taste.
I used to insist on completing a show, if not for oneself than at least for "the writer who put the story together however awful it might be." I now realize that if I kept doing that, I'd just be wasting time that could be used to explore the work of better writers and artists.
I think it's just how you want to go about it. Maybe you just need a break? Take the time, and maybe hop back on it later if you feel the urge to just "finish it." Just don't let compulsion to finish take control of you, and you'll see what you want to do about it.
I usually do it like this for me.
Try to give it at most 5 episodes and if you don't like it within that range, just drop it.
Sometimes show will end up seeming bad only to end up getting good or better but, there's no shame if you drop a show.
I think the only "fairly recent" show I dropped at about episode 7 was Momo Kyun Sword(i love ecchi but, for some reason I just couldn't stand that show). The quickest in short amounts or semi-halfway is pretty much the rest of my dropped list.
But, yeah... Just drop it. Don't feel bad if you're halfway.
