Here in the United States it's pretty popular and has gotten pretty mainstream. Is anime liked in other countries? Is it popular?
Obviously. There are plenty of anime fans all over the world, though its popularity by country and region varies. Here in Sweden it's difficult to find manga/merch locally unless you live in a big city, otherwise it's pretty rare. Finding other anime fans irl is quite easy, though.
Can confirm.
There is rise of anime in my place, now, I think, like 35% of kids/teens are watching (Israel). It is changing every few years
[Removed]
Indeed Tel Aviv accept different cultures more, but, also at another places there is big rise in guys who are watching anime. Also, the guys who like anime coming to Tell Aviv particularly because they are watching anime.. they have some manga n merch shops, when we don't really have it in another cities, so lots of the weebs there, aren't really living at Tel Aviv
Here in Australia i would say the more main stream shows (Demon Slayer, AOT) are pretty prevalent but beyond that its pretty underground. Its not like you would get bullied for it but its also not generally something the average person is interested in.
FR!! unfortunately my local anime shop is focused more around the more popular Netflix shows like Demon Slayer and what not so i'm kinda hard pressed to find the merch for shows that i like. so unfortunate that animelab became funimation because whilst the transition was easy, animelab was just significantly better thatn funimation.
Speaking of Streaming, I wonder if there is a correlation between what a Streaming service offers, and what genre becomes the most popular.
For example, Netflix USA offers a good variety of anime so could Americans start favoring anime. But if another Netflix offers more horror movies, would the people in that region start to prefer horror?
Here in Portugal it's already started to become mainstream as hell. During my childhoold everyone watched Dragon Ball Z, so that was the 'standard' of anime back then. Nowadays everyone's addicted to the latest season of Attack on Titan, Demon Slayer and the likes. Among younger people, anime is now viewed as a pretty normal hobby to have, which is great! So I'd say anime is seen in a positive note over here
yeah, anime is also popular here in indonesia. people usually growing up watching anime from local tv channels. there are stereotype for anime watcher/enjoyer "get a life" "shut in" "weeb" "cant socialize with others" (pretty much same like other countries)
oh wow i just checked this. it's #3 in the world

UK here. It's starting to be more accepted, but personally I wouldn't say it's completely mainstream. Unless you go to specific niche communities, you won't find an anime fan roaming in the wild that often. There's usually an anime and manga shop or at the very least a comic shop that has manga in most cities I believe though.
India.
Finding another Anime Fan/Weeb is Unexpectedly easily. Many Highschoolers and college students are into Animanga but for the people who dont know what is anime, the are like "Ehhh wut are you talkng about" xD
But it kinda feels good to meet irl weebs
Also, Cringe exists too Kekw
@DrBOND007 Kinda Agree, I found a few people due to some event like a workshop or something. but I wasnt expecting anyone to watch anime Lmfao
@DarkLordSekke I agree to this too, But I was luck enough to find good weebs and also uhm Uhm Degenerates xD
Here in Iran it's been popular for a couple of years now, and it's getting more and more popular every day.
It's not exactly mainstream, if you take a random person the chances of them being a fan is very low but if you go looking for other fans you won't be disappointed, they're all over Instagram, Telegram, Discord, etc.
Russia
Pretty popular in my circle of friends (School, University, Driving school)
But....
If, God forbid, you happen to be spotted by a senior member of society, then you'll get an earful about how you should stop watching kiddy cartoons.
Even though the stuff I watch is generally 18+ rated(Not H)

Exactly the same shit in Poland.
I remember when my friend was setting wallpapers with anime girls during one IT class (just for laughs, since he doesn't watch it at all), so the teacher got annoyed that he isn't doing his tasks during class and she said something like "Geez! Are you 10 years old that you watch anime?"
It's so hilarious considering how popular this quasi-documentary garbage is around here. At least in my family circle I had it easy with watching anime and when I didn't I just went to straight out call things they watch all day as some basic mush to turn off your brain.
Fun fact: I once wrote on English exercise that I like watching anime and the teacher marked it as a mistake because she thought I meant animals.
It depends....
Talking or showing you like anime with titles like Dragonball, One Piece, Attack on Titan, Boku no Hero etc.
(you know the typical shounen stuff), is most time seen as something normal, a mainstream thing that is right now popular.
But....if you show or talk about other anime like Made in Abyss, Gundam, 90% of all Slice of Life title, people still see it as weird.
At least this is how it is in my country and i believe this is the case for many other countries too .
Anime here in Scotland has sky rocketed in last like 5 years and is probably one of the highest viewed entertainments just like other countries because before that it was Pokemon or YuGiOh and maybe DBZ.
These days though like 95% of the people that watch anime here are teens (<17). Its rare to find someone +25 that watched anime here since most people are still normies that watch Celebrity Love Island and Get Me Out Of Here etc.
However, its becoming more the norm that people talk about Cosplay (not anime, just cosplay) - especially with the rise of things like hot tub streams on twitch etc as well. Anime in adults will become the norm next generation most likely.
Ignorantly, a major stumbling block for people to watch anime is because its still perceived as cartoons as well as it being another language. More high end shows like Squid Game will no doubt remove the hatred towards subtitled content.
