Like I fully get it that this ain't where the money is so we won't be getting any big racing anime anywhere soon, but the fact that the shown footage looks worse than what was presented in 2007 Wangan Midnight is honestly off-putting. The shaders applied to the cars are simply making them look ugly and the camera work together with 3d environment makes them look way slower than they should...
Honestly, can't say I'm to thrilled after seeing the PV. Though still gonna give it a try, it's not like we will get anything else in the coming years right?
At least the static 2d backgrounds are pretty, so there's that.
Now that you've pointed it out, it kinda does look disappointing. I was expecting the 2012-2014 Initial D animations because I thought those looked great. The animation here reminds me of those other anime that try to make an Initial D reference just for the meme. Hopefully, they make some improvements. They have time to do so since it comes out in 2023. But if not, I'm still fine with it.
Yeah, unfortunately we can't expect any new racing anime to just pop out of nowhere so MF Ghost is our best bet so far. Hopefully they can fix most of the glaring issues with the 3d side of the anime, considering that other way older anime looked so much better even with the old tech.
Though the 2d animation or at least the shown 2d backgrounds look promising.
As for the Initial D reference? Well the manga is from the same author so I'm not surprised if they are trying to emulate his drawing style. Unfortunately it doesn't translate at all in this case, only make's it look worse imo.
definitely a massive downgrade from the amazing animation of Initial D Legend movies (which i still think has the best CG in anime to date). i do understand that one is a series of movies and the other is going to be a full season TV series, but even comparing it to Initial D Fourth Stage, MF Ghost looks really outdated.
I'm not looking forward to this at all, the story of the manga is bad-mediocre at best and the only thing that could make the anime good is the animation but nope.
It's probably going to be adapted by Lindafilms who did the reboot of the 1st season as 3 movies. It looks pretty okay honestly but indeed getting used to. In those 3 movies there was no eurobeat tho which was awkward to watch. The animation and artstyle of MF Ghost is the exact same as those 3 movies so I am assuming Lindafilms will be adapting MF Ghost too. I've also read today they will keep the Eurobeat trend in this show so that's great!
