Fuck disney+ for getting this show out of all the shows out there
This is a pretty damn dark anime for Disney+ to have bought the rights to... like... did they even read the source material? Tons of murder, killing, suicide, sometimes rather graphically, and not to mention some rather dark themes...
The more I write, the more I am beginning to think that they definitely didn't read the source material.
That's what I was thinking. I was like, "oh, I can finally watch an anime with the rest of my family because its easily accessible on Disney+". First episode comes out, there's panties showing in the first 5 mins, a guys face is smashed into jiggling boobs, three headshots etc. I'm definitely not showing this to my family lol. (my family is super conservative btw)
Don't get me wrong tho, this is looking like a super cool and quality anime it's just definitely not family friendly.

I've tried contacting and asking different fansub groups if they'd like to pick up this series, every single one declined cuz of fucking Disney+. Well, it already didn't have enough attention since it started so late into the season, but now it's even more fucked up since we're not gonna see any episodes probably until after it ends.
It's really frustrating cuz the source material is great and the production behind the anime is also pretty good. It could also shine in this season full of romcoms and slice-of-life shows, but no. What a waste of a show.
what happened w/ disney plus what did i miss
Summertime render is only available in Disney+ for worldwide streaming. Thing is, they haven't even announced a date for when it will start, so the subbed episodes will most likely drop after 6 months when the show finishes airing. Basically Netflix jail, but worse, since fansubs are hesitant to pick up this series due to stricter copyright issues
oh my god THAT'S HORRIBLE
That's Disney for you. They are horrible with copyright. In fact, they've had the American government change copyright law several times purely because of their characters getting close to being in the public domain, which they didn't like (Mickey Mouse & Winnie the Pooh, (and others)). So now it's like, 70 years after the death of the original creator that the company in possession of the rights to a work has complete ownership of all aspects of said work, not including the time that the original creator is still alive for. So, it's entirely possible right now that a new character or something will not be allowed to be used by the general public for almost 100 years, depending on how old the original creator was at the time of its copyright.
Why is Disney even expanding into anime streaming like this? It makes no sense to me given the rest of the content on their platform. Nobody who isn't already paying for Disney+ is going to subscribe to watch a couple titles instead of just waiting for them to hit the high seas.
Because money.
Like I already said though, the majority of people who don't already have Disney+ aren't going to pay $10+ per month just for a few anime titles so it makes no sense. This wouldn't even really bring in people who were already thinking about paying for it, as the majority of those people would be more interested in the actual Disney content.
If they had made a separate streaming service dedicated to anime that was significantly cheaper than D+ due to a small catalogue, then that would make more sense to me.
Disney is also streaming, Spy X Family, Shield Hero 2, Kongming, Tomodachi Game, Skeleton Knight and Trapped in a Dating Sim. They are now going to be licensing more shows and exclusives and will be competing with Sony, Netflix & AMC.
Making a separate service makes no sense and is ultimately pointless, when you can just have everything together and save on costs.
amazing first episode, summertime render is one of my favorite manga of all time. Im super happy with the quality and loyalty to the source material here (even though i wish they wouldve cut out the fan service parts).
Given that i know how everything ends up, it makes this watch really enjoyable because i can see all the early foreshadowing and setup, i fucking love this.
this will probably be my anime of the year if the production keeps up, there are so many moments in this anime that will shock alot of people.
With 25 episodes total coming out, I think they might be able to tell the fully story in that time, with a few things cut that don't necessarily need to be in there to make the story flow well.
I'm with you concerning the production quality. I really hope that, given the longer run-time of this anime's season, they can keep it going strong.
Wow what a first episode
Incredible animation, amazing OST, environments look beautiful. They really managed to translate that Shiki "small town" vibe just right. The mystery seems especially interesting to me exactly because of that small town aspect; imo it's something that elevated Shiki to another level and something that I get the same feel from this show now.
I'm totally hooked
A highly-effective first episode!
While there were a couple of ecchi moments that felt quite unnecessary, the series is immediately playing into the common horror framework of a town in summertime with some kind of supernatural phenomenon taking place. There are small hints sprinkled throughout the episode (the cop "tsk"ing, Mio's seemingly split-personality, etc) that give off a rather uncomfortable air, which I love. Tiny little surprises and revelations are sprinkled throughout the episode, like the reveal of the scratches on the neck and of course the final two minutes, and of course, the time-looping being another big one. I couldn't help but think of Higurashi no Naku Koro ni.
The animation itself also looks quite splendid! The summer was beautifully depicted and many details, from the character movements, foods, and other little lighting aspects like Mio (or "Mio?") outside the house after dark really help add to the sense of atmosphere. The sense of foreboding on this island is definitely apparent, and I eagerly await what comes next!
For now, we press onward!
The synopsis is rather vague so i watched it blindly (didn't even check genre or hype from manga reader) and i was surprised. The mystery is rather interesting and the visual of the character/island is great.
P.S. I can't believe Disney "claim" anime with this kind of theme. It would make sense if they "claim" anime like Healer Girl which have more similar theme with their series.
It was great, the animation is smooth, there was some pantsu shots but not too over the top, its cute af and the characters do seem like actually good written and thought out characters
I feel like I can already kinda tell what is going to happen since I have predicted everything that is going to happen in this episode before it happened but it may be like shutter island and do a big fuck you you know nothing at the end
