What do you expect or want to happen next?
I enjoy this anime because it is a romance anime that isn't frustrating to watch. They're already together. It's a slow-paced slice of life. Their existence is to be cute together. I don't have to sit through 12 or more episodes of do they actually like me?...Nah. It's a solid 6, perhaps even a 7. Not everything gotta be transcendent.
The ml could stop being so whiny though.
Agreed! I don't have to waste my time just to have them maybe hold hands or semi~confess to each other at the end or some bs.
They are already together, cute, express their love in their own unique and shared ways, and are in a healthy relationship (looking at you horimiya).
They did hint at a deeper plot on why the ml is so unlucky (and he could be a little less whiny too), but maybe that will change, who knows; Even if it doesn't, i'm just glad there's a happy go lucky romance anime without the dramatic, unrelenting teasing bs. Sure nothing of true importance happens and the eps are kinda boring but, it's a slice of life, as long as they are cute, happy, and healthy, i'll watch it.
Same! I enjoy this anime too because I like such genres in general and also read the manga. I don't understand the hate too. This anime is better than many other romance animes, because as you say in some animes you wait every episode to see the people holding hands in the last episode or in the second season.
This anime is really relaxing and also fun to watch. In my opinion better than many other animes lately and at the moment.
This is the type of romance I hate (so 98% of romance anime)
Like, they're already dating but they're afraid of even fucking touching eachother's hands
Besides the cringy dialogue and reactions
i rather have this then a romance with barely any development between the 2 and nothing ever happening (looking at gojo and marin lol)
My feelings on the series thus far are rather split - on the one hand, there is some effort here to make their relationship feel more earnest and loving than in other romantic comedies, even if some of the dialogue is a little bit iffy. I can definitely appreciate the effort put into this.
The problem is that the scale is a bit lopsided - Shikimori is given so many "cool" things to do (the quotation marks aren't meant to be dismissive), while Izumi spends so much time as the butt monkey of so many jokes relating to clumsiness, bad luck, etc. The moments where Izumi supports Shikimori (like the cheering in this episode) are fine and heartwarming in theory, but since the character is framed text-wise and visually as being rather pathetic, it doesn't have the emotional immediacy that it's going for, at least when I watch it. The series, at least right now, feels more like an inversion of rom-coms as opposed to something as fresh and invigorating as it seems like it's trying to be.
So more or less, Izumi is the thing that really drags the show down for me, both at the romantic and comedic level. He needs some moments where he gets to strut his stuff and show that he can be "cool" as well. And by that, I don't mean one singular trait that he has that Shikimori doesn't. If the show doesn't go for that angle, it can still salvage his character by really playing an emotional maturity angle. Perhaps, for instance, a point where Shikimori is at her absolute lowest, and he manages to help guide her through whatever it is. He doesn't need to be macho - he just needs to be more than supportive in the simplistic sense.
I do want to clarify - I don't think the series is bad. I'm just rather unenthused. I'm hoping it can turn things around!
Good lord, the bad luck shenanigan was never funny but now it has straight-up become annoying. It doesn't help that the execution of these scenes feel so awkward and lame, something I believe is the fault of the adaptation.
The only reason I still don't dislike is because Shikimori is the perfect girlfriend. In fact, I wouldn't even mind her becoming my boyfriend, with how charming she is.
I mean, it's fine. It's nice to just turn on and kind of turn my brain off and not worry about anything while watching it. But my mans Izumi... I already can't stand him. The bad luck trope is rarely good and that's all his character is. If they tone that down or just get rid of it entirely, I'll be mostly okay with this show going forward.
I really don't get why people were hyping this up, I don't mind FL being the dominant one but do you really have to show the ML as pathetic loser? both leads should be equally well written otherwise it's bad imo and it's annoying how people keep comparing it to dress up darling and says this is better like excuse me? You are wrong
