I thought the show would be bad because it has like a 68% vote rate, but it's above all the copy-paste isekai out there. Why are people mad about it? Is it because the self-insert MC died episode 1?
Bunch of things.
a) 68 isn't that bad on Anilist
b) Opinions
c) Demographics.
You potray this show to be a self insert isekai, attract that
audience, then have the protagonist killed, reveal the real
protagonist and reveal it out to be a yuri. And as it turns out,
there's little to no overlap between the fans of both the genres. So
naturally, people are gonna be disappointed.
Hibike! Euphonium spoilers
Just think of a situation where the reverse were to happen. A show which seems like a yuri, but as it turns out, it's not, and the character ends up with a guy.
Oh wait. Here it is. It's been years, and yuri fans still think of it as the greatest betrayal to ever exist.
You cannot bait the auidence into watching something they don't like and expect them to not be pissed. Atleast executioner pulled the twist early on, instead of the last episode or something.
you know I actually didn't think of it that way. I love yuri and don't mind isekai so when the isekai turned out to be yuri I def didn't mind. But comparing it to Sound Euphonium and the betrayal people felt when watching definitely put why people hate it in perspective. This is still a good show though, I did enjoy the plot twist.

bro, do you read the anime synopses? Because only those who haven't read it will feel "betrayed", in the synopsis it says that Menou is an assassin who kills Japanese who go to that world, and in the synopsis it also says that the only one she can't kill is Akari, so it's obvious that the random guy from the beginning of the anime would die.
If you don't want to feel "betrayed" next time, read the synopsis, it's helpful, or even the tags, there it also says have yuri.
Hey, I read the synopsis.
I was just speaking on behalf of those who didn't.
ok, but anyway it's stupid to watch an anime just for the cover (hell not even on the cover the guy showed up so probably they didn't even do that) and when a character they mistakenly thought was the protagonist dies, they feel betrayed and give low score because of that? Apparently now you can't kill characters early in your story even though you warn in the synopsis
you said the anime bait the audience into watching something they don't like, but it's not the anime's fault that the audience can't even read a synopsis, read tags or even look at the cover, so it's unfair to give a low score because of that specific reason you mentioned
well, you see... when a season starts, majority of people I've talked with just try a seasonal show for the sake of it without reading the synopsis. I also do that a lot of times, rarely I do read the synopsis of a show I'm going to watch unless and until it really intrigues me. It gives a surprise factor when going in without knowing anything. Also, the bait turns off people, its obvious people will not like it if a pretty likeable shown-as-protag gets killed out of nowhere. And the replacement for him was that unlikeable character Akari who is very annoying as of now.
Watching anime without reading the synopsis isn't the problem, the problem is watching it without reading the synopsis and realizing that it's something that the person doesn't like (yuri) and giving it a low score just because it's not to their liking, because the anime's proposal has always been that, it's not the anime's fault that you didn't read his proposal
about the rest, you have the right not to like Akari, and that is a justifiable reason to not like the anime and give it a low score, the problem that most complaints are for being a yuri, and the anime never tried to hide it that, people just turned a blind eye to this factor (it's like watching an action anime like Kimetsu no Yaiba and complaining that there's action in it rofl)
Yeah, I actually thought it was weird for that male char to even exist since I thought it was only going to be Menou from the beginning so I wasn't really shocked when he died. Can still understand why someone that only watched the trailer might've thought he'd be a protag, but that's like, the smallest of the issues with the show if even an issue at all
I can still understand the feeling, but I've seen it done multiple times where it looked like it might be yuri, and then they kill off(sometimes literally, other times, literatively) the female MC and grace us with the male MC we all surely wanted....so I just can't really not be happy that they finally did a hetbait isekai
I don't get it... how can you expect something like that ? I went in blindly just looking at the title and the image. I was confused at first because I didn't think it would be an isekai but after that what was going to happen was pretty obvious. A kind girl helping a random guy out of nowhere... but... the self-insert MC is not on the image representing the show and the show is named "The Executionner"... what could possibly go wrong ?!
I think that the show is very pretty and the cast seems pretty good. The one thing that I hated in EP 1 though was the fact that she was super friendly and nice to him and then just out of no where decides, nah you dead. That was just cruel to me, like why show someone who thinks that they have nothing that they have powers, then go and instantly kill them? It just felt cruel and unusual, the only thing I can imagine that would justify her doing that is as follows.
1: They spare people with no powers or very very very shitty powers.
or
2: They try to work with them, but he instantly showed that he was a power hungry maniac and she made the decision on the spot to kill him.
Outside of that instance, the rest of it was pretty good and I liked the animations.
I've seen a lot more people complaining about hate than people actually saying bad things about the show. Perhaps there's some victimization going on here?
Anyway, if you expect a 7/10 to be "bad", you should probably go to school and learn where 7 stands in between 1 and 10.
there's not much hate in this site, yes. But on myanimelist there's plenty of threads expressing hate for this show in various ways. There's only three rant threads there now, but there's used to be six - the other three threads were already deleted by the mods.
you only need to look at the first thread to see the toxicity.

thankfully, due to the smaller population of Anilist, so the haters have not crept up in here yet.
The same thing has continually happened, where people will get all of toxicity and hatred from mal, r/anime, twitter, etc and then come to AniList with this huge chip on their shoulder about the whole thing resulting in people who don't actually pay attention to that drama and shit just being confused why someone is acting so defensive.
what the f@&$ is this there are more people talking bad about anime than good
why watch then?
spy x family sucks
and has 88% positive
on MAL top 2 with 3 episodes
and I'm not going on their forum to spread the word of hate to make fans blind and cross-eyed nervous about the flaws in the work
the day i consider spy x family better than Monster or Golden Kamuy, i kill myself
because its yuri and the other lead besides Menou is not at all likeable, the 'chan-chan' is getting on people's nerves, including. Pretty annoying character who feel like the one forcing the yuri with the cheesy and cringe dialogues. It isn't suiting my taste, I thought it would be interesting but after 2 episodes, its boring and after EP3, I'll decide whether to drop it or keep watching.
A yuri with good leads and moderate romance progression if nice to watch but shows like this are not able to do that and that's why yuri shows are not liked. Some good yuri shows are def out there which are liked by all gender regardless.
Trying to figure out why people "hate" a particular anime is as challenging as figuring out why people "like" certain anime. The premise of the show is intriguing to say the least, the characters aren't completely generic and the world-building has been great (Except for a few brief info-dumps here and there).
The series is a bit controversial, but do note that the score curve has its peak at 7/10, so the consensus from the "early-score-givers" seems to be that it's alright, just not great. But most people who are still watching haven't given it a score yet (myself included), so it's very much subject to change.
68% is good! I have enjoyed so....so very many shows that are in the 50% range, and even lower!
The guy felt like a betrayal for a moment, but I decided it had to be some sort of something, and this couldn't' be yet another het harem isekai. I'm glad I held on, because this show has been crazy enjoyable~ Yuri is the best, esp with how they normally avoid the harem aspect, and instead give bunches of relationships to follow
Tbh I don't know either. It has good animation and a decent story that definitely defy the norms of the generic isekai. Maybe it's because of the Yuri? Or the plot twist in the first episode doesn't really sit well with the viewers? Imo it's a fairly good show so I'm continuing to watch it until now :)
