You can choose multiple too.
Let's go?
Violet Evergarden the Movie
It's defo not as good as the series if you ask me.
I found it the perfect anime for what it was.
the comedy never fails to make me laugh, i love the characters, it even had an ending surprisingly enuff, and comforted me out of a dark place. I cant reccomend it enuff, nor will it ever take the no1 spot of all my fav anime however, cuz i realize its not perfect, except in my heart
@Alys
This is your only 10 so yeah. I liked this show a lot too btw
Land of the Lustrous
oh yeah, this show was incredible. the soundtrack and sound design were so unique, not to mention the visuals (which I at first thought was strange because of the CGI, but quickly got used to and loved) and the storyline. the way moh's hardness scale was employed was just genius, chef's kiss. easily in my top 3 anime list. the manga was also such an amazing read, I need more!!!
On paper, the idea of mixing a narrative from classical literature and combining it with futuristic sci-fi elements may sound like it’d be clunky but it was done very well. Great characters, well executed drama, engaging story, and good music. The super unique and bold visual style is the cherry on top for me. Though, I imagine some others may not like the visuals so much. Anyway, I went into this show expecting it to be in the 8 or 9 range but I was so impressed by and immersed in it I gave it a 10. Truly a hidden gem.

Land of the Lustrous
tbh i already know the answer for this
@GoatQuote
Underexplored setting for anime and I felt that Vinland saga handled "revenge is bad" in a clever way
It was one of my first anime, great animation and art style, loved the relationship between Hiro and Zero Two, Godbro Goro, great worldbuilding (ruined by Ep. 19 and beyond ofc, along with everything else; Hiro and Zero Two stayed good though and was what kept me going to the very end and is why I love this show so much)
Personal bias
GinTama has a slow start, and a newcomer might find the first 50-100 eps pretty boring, which was my case as well (had dropped it twice)... So this first season isn't really a 10/10 (The rest of the seasons are absolutely amazing tho no cap, deserves all the praise, acclaim and scores)
But, the thing is, i grew up as a teenager with GinTama, and its probably the only anime i really care about. Sometimes it even feels like I know the characters more than I know my friends and relatives lol.. And when i rewatch the show, i don't find it boring at all cuz i know nd love those characters.
Basically, I couldn't rate it below 10 even if i wanted to.. Totally biased, but overall its one of the best shounen in existence anyways, so who cares...
It's mostly about emotional connection, but I love the characters and the story a lot too. When I first watched the anime, I was still trying to figure out my sexuality, and the mc of this anime, Uenoyama felt extremely relatable to me. I felt quite connected to his character back then (and even now). This, and the way the anime handled sensitive subjects (like grief, suicide etc etc) was heart touching to me.
Having to pick something in particular, one of the first things I noticed on surface level after finish is all the times the show reinforces its theme of learning to love ones self which is ultimately the only way to be able to love and understand others. Basically I love the messages about self love. Another thing is that the characters hadn't really reminded me of what I had seen in anime in my earlier years. This opinion of mine has changed a little bit but, I've never really been a fan of how characters in this medium have their personalities portrayed. This show with the exception of Subaru sometimes (which is meant to be kinda ironic in some ways.) and maybe Beatrice, characters have pretty grounded traits which I enjoyed. Ram and Felix for example are playful with others in their own way but not to the extent where it feels goofy if you get what I'm saying not that there aren't goofy moments int he show. I'm just willing to accept it because its not every episode. I love the way that Subaru isn't always painted as always right. I love that Emilia is really a dumber person than we thought initially and I love that Felix and Crusch are not just meant to be side characters for decoration. Without talking diving too deep this is what I'm willing to say about characters.
Another thing I do love about the show is it's music. You have something like Fantasy Lied. which atleast from my view the name has two meanings one that is just means fantasy song and one that tells us that the idea of fantasy is somehow false. Which is very in line with the show showing us that that Subaru very much still has to deal with his real problems and other people.
Also Echt of Sorrow is pretty neat
The ending is one of the best songs I've heard. For some reason I felt nostalgia when hearing it initially like, just the piano at the beginning. It lyrics and imagery are very inline with what the show is about. You have the self doubt in it and the loneliness which the show perpetuates the whole runtime and I think is done justice by this ending.
That is it basically it if you wanna know anything else I am 100% willing to talk about this story a lot more than I did here.
Edit: Something I neglected to mention is that this was my first anime after like 9 years of not watching any so that had a really big impact due to everything mentioned above.
Same reasons of why I loved the show. I also personally liked Rie Takahashi singing the stay alive ED, with Emilia being in the visuals. I found that really cute.
As my first watch was in English, I wasn't 100 percent sure it was her but had a little bit of a hunch it might be. When I looked it up and found out it was her singing it, that made me appreciate it more. Alot of things in this show become better upon further inspection for example, me actually starting to like Emilia in EP 13 because well she acted like a person for like the first time in the show. Well that's what I thought at the time in then on rewatch well I kinda proved myself wrong and she became my favorite character in the show because I looked into her demeanor more and found things about her that were there all along. Granted, there still isn't alot of her, whats there is worth paying attention to and I think her rep up until S2 was little just undeserved. But hey, aren't the little things what makes favorites?
Yeah she sang a couple of songs in re zero. Like this one
I actually teared up when subaru broke down here. I love how realistic the personalities in this show are even if everyone uses magic. I think the characters are built really well and I love all of them. I'm saying this because I recently rewatched the whole series and felt an emotional rollercoaster again lol
@rickcage27
I think you expected this but
I will say that I watched it when I was 12 so a bit of nostalgia is in play here. However, it is still a 10 in my books despite those episodes. To me, I didn't mind the episodes too much and it didn't ruin the experience I had when watching it. It's still an excellent drama/coming of age story in my books.
I am a big fan of dystopian anime so I came here expecting a lot of things. The first season was above average but the second season stepped up and blew up every single one of my expectations. The music, animation, story, characters and EVERYTHING else were fleshed out is why it's a 10/10 in my opinion
For me it's a perfect encapsulation of Bebop's one-shot style but dialled up to 11! The music, the animation and even the plot make it such an enjoable watch for me.
I could go back to it a dozen times and not be bored: The opening in the convienience store, the montage of Spike mooching around Mars, the fight on the train and final fight on the tower. Everything just oozes that 90's charm and vibe. I love Bebop and the movie is the perfect digest of that.
@winterchant it really irks me that Your Name is 9.5 and Demon Slayer is a 10 despite being an ok-ok shonen with best animation that money can buy so why the hell is Demon Slayer 10?
For next commenter - I do not rate anime but if i did than it would be Yuru Camp both seasons, Haikyuu S3, Your Name, or you can pick any from my favs although i won't give a 10 to all of them
demon slayer has made me sob grossly on several occasions. the animation is obviously stunning, but for me i love the characters. tanjiro and nezuko's relationship is well-represented as undying sibling love even though nezuko never speaks. every character that is introduced has a purpose, even the one-off demons that die as soon as they appear.
the pacing is honestly perfect, i never feel like it's being stretched out pointlessly even with the way they're releasing the seasons as arcs and covered mugen train twice. with each new arc, i feel like my expectations are always being exceeded.
i could rewatch it over and over again and love it just as much or more every time. i can't think of anything i think could've been done better. also, if the animation style wasn't as amazing as it is, i still think i'd rate it a 9 or 10.
as for your name, i thought it was really good but forgettable. i didn't feel attached to the characters, even though i was rooting for their relationship.
Lupin The 3rd The Castle of Cagliostro
honestly dont know much about it, so interested to hear why you think so highly of it
Oh dude you're in for a treat!
First off it's one of Hayao Miyazaki's first directorial debuts after he co-directed the original Lupin III TV show. You can see a lot of his later Ghibli-esque mannerisms turn up from the softer character designs and the sense of adventure throughout.
Next, it's just a really fun adventure film with some stunning set-pieces (check out the initial car-chase on YouTube for some insane sakuga for '79!)
Finally, it serves as a great introduction to the
Lupin franchise. You get to meet all the main cast and see what role they serve and will continue to serve for the next 50 years of Lupin stories. If you like this film then it can be a great gateway to even more brilliant stories of this world-class thief!
