Kimi no Na wa
Kimi no na wa / Your name is a great anime movie for beginners because it can be enjoyed by everyone, has great animation and sound quality, a simple story and is highly engaging.

DEATH NOTE
Death Note was my first anime, and It was really easy to get invested, because of the interesting characters and good pacing.

Sora yori mo Tooi Basho
This series is one I've only recently watched, but it has a lot to offer for people who like slice-of-life stuff. It isn't too slow or quick pacing-wise and has very nice characters. Very easy to get into, even for beginners.

I wont mention Shigatsu wa kimi no uso / Your lie in april, because someone else posted that one first. I do agree that it is also a great beginner anime.

2. Just pick the genres + tags that you already like and use them. It should narrow your options more accurately than basically randomly thrown titles.

^ gay ice skating, but for real tho besides that its just very beautiful.
