I've already written a review for this series on the site, but in brief, I'll say this much:
I did not expect to like this anime as much as I did. It fully-embraced its wacky premise and didn't relent, making everything that transpired infinitely more comedic and sentimentally-engaging. It could have fallen off, but it didn't. I won't be forgetting this little show for a long time!
...so...season 2 when?
That truly was a ride, easily the biggest surprise of the season and one of the best anime I watched in the last months. It's a bit unfortunate that the recruitment of the rapper, Kabetaijin, ultimately served no real purpose to the story, I would have loved to see him and Eiko sing together. Moreover, I feel like the comedy was toned town in the second half in favor of the more serious plot, which certainly wasn't bad, but I would have loved to see a little more comedy from time to time. The one in the first few episodes was incredibly appealing to me.
cool zhuge liang show but gotta say, that final song is pretty disappointing. they should've taken more inspiration from the really huge EDM scene in tokyo instead of leaning towards more of the international EDM sound. i feel like they could've easily gotten someone like moe shop or tomggg or even a smaller producer like aiobahn to write something better. just feels like a wasted opportunity, especially when the story is sort of revolving around that community.
What a wild ride. This premise of this series was so out there, and fortunately they walked the fine line between absurdity and reality with grace. Any more focus on Kongming and the story would have gotten a bit too mystical and the viewer would need to start asking questions. Too much focus on Eiko and the weird draw of Kongming would have been lost and this would have just been another music focused series to drop onto the pile.
There are places where things could have been done better, but overall this series could have been so much worse. P.A. Works did a fine job with this one.
Great final episode. Wrapped up this arc well. The show really delivered on my expectations it set for me in the first episode.
Contrary to popular opinion though, I liked the second arc more due to the focus on Azalea. That was the best part of the show for me, apart from Kongming and Eiko, of course.
Kabe was a character developed really well and I hope he has more involvement in Eiko's career moving forward.
7/10.
This was by far my favorite anime this season. Music production was among the best I have seen ever. Blending history, culture, and comedy in a show about music is also brilliant, because it works as a good standalone anime even without the incredible music. It also helped that the opening and Dreamer were such bops they now go in my music rotation.
This show was my raison d'être this spring. I need season 2 stat.
HEY DJ! Bring me the second season!!!!
I loved this anime so freaaaakiiiing muuuch!!!. I already miss it!! I already miss the opening BANG BANG AI CHIKI CHIKI BANG BANG but we instead got the full version of the ED song! Bangers! Every song was a banger and so was Dreamer. I like to see more EDM represented in anime.
Now, about the episode, fantastic of course. Concludes with hype, celebration, and everyone wins. A happy ending but we do have to acknowledge that without Kongming the harsh reality of the music industry would have destroyed both Eiko and Azalea.
I honestly do like the OG Azalea music, now reborn fortunately I was like heeeey where’s the rest? And ended up clapping.
Honestly I’m too tired but this was such a lovely ending and I’m so excited for a second season. Once Eiko and Konming conquer the world, well they already did through this anime. Wait, was this whole anime one of his stratagem????? A chad and with a chad gaming setup
Thank you PA Works for this wonderful adaptation. And especially the music, really catchy. I’m so excited to listen to Dreamer and the rest of the songs so many times! I love music <3
