I loved the one shot and was really happy to see it getting serialized but after reading this first chapter, I have some worries about the direction the manga is taking
They turned this into a generic demons hunter manga
Seriously the monster looks from Jujutsu Kaisen (they call it a calamity, sounds a lot like curses to me), the protag is half-human half-demon and the way he activates his power looks so much like Chainsaw Man it's like they're not even trying
The thing that bothers me the most is that it really feels like coming out of nowhere, there wasn't any of that demon hunter stuff in the oneshot
Feels like I watched a trailer for a superhero movie and when I'm watching it in the theater it's a historical drama,
What's your opinion about this ?
I was also surprised too see that they added in a the calamity aspect to the story because the one shot was interesting without it. It might have been added because the creator or an editor thought that it was needed to turn the story into a full manga series instead of just a one shot. I'm not totally put off by it though as the characters still seem like they have potential.
I guess we will have to see how it pans out in the future and if it was the right choice to add it in.
Just read both the One Shot & the first official chapter and I agree that the One Shot was better. The demon stuff was unnecessary, I feel like we have enough demon series going on right now. I also found myself blasting through the first chapter because it felt like it was taking to long to get to the point.
Honestly I enjoyed both the One-Shot and the first chapter a lot, and I think going forward as long as it tries to differentiate itself from stuff like JJK, Doron Dororon, Demon Slayer, etc. with it's characters and overall story, I think it'll be a good manga. Just because it does have things that are really similar to those series, I don't think immediately writing it off is fair when we still only have one chapter out right now.
I love the characters and art and I'm curious to see how it gonna try to differentiate itself from other similar mangas so I'm still gonna read it
But I really feels like this element has been slapped into the story just because it's what popular right now, nothing in the one-shot was hinting to this new direction
And it could be detrimental to the manga because some people might be bored to read a demon hunter story again instead of something different
I prefer the one shot's concept more, but I understand why they went for the change. It's probably easier for world-building and character development, along with being a super popular genre rn. Even though in its most basic form it's pretty much a combination of jjk, chainsaw man, and blue exorcist, there're only 2 chapters out so I don't really think it's fair to judge lol. I'm going to give it the benefit of the doubt and say it's going to develop more unexpectedly, but I really hope they bring some of the original back :)
