(don't come at me too hard)
I watched season 1 of the anime and absolutely loved it. I'm enjoying season 2 to an extent, but I saw in a thread that anime skipped some key moments in the light novel. I started reading the LN at V5 CH8, and I've read up to V6 CH2. I know I haven't read much and that I skipped 5 volumes, when I compare the light novel and the anime, I enjoy the anime a lot more. At first I was excited because I saw that the LN had Ayanokoji's inner dialogue, which I thought would enhance the story, but I don't really like it as much.
I like thinking of AK as a cold-hearted psychopath. I thought that's what the whole appeal to the story was. I thought that his inner dialogues would be more like running through possibilities in his head rather than him second guessing his moves and getting nervous around girls. I get that they took this out of the anime because the mystery/psychological animes sell better, but I feel like they sell better for a reason.
If I started reading the light novels first, I would 100% be more disappointed in the anime. I bet the LN has really good character development, but I feel like the anime could be set up for some really good character development. This is just speculation, but in the anime, AK is a heartless monster who only thinks of himself. Other people are just tools for him. I bet this is because the White Room conditioned him that way. This means there's room for him to break away from his past and start to humanize over the course of his high school years. Or, he could stay heartless and we can see the effects of that throughout the years. It'd be cool to see how he handles being the target of all 3 classes while trying to control his own class.
I'll probably start reading the LN from the beginning and come back and update this to see if my opinions change.
