Oh boy where do I start, honestly, this movie was very fun to watch and I loved that the side characters, Piccolo and Gohan, get to shine since their Dragon Ball Z times EVEN KRILLIN (to be fair he shined a little bit, but better than Super nowadays). I will do a more thorough review later, but for the thread, this movie is charming and also funny to watch with the characters interacting. I will say on a critical standpoint, the Broly movie is better, but that doesn't mean this one is garbage. Let me know your thoughts down this thread, I want to see what everyone else thinks about it.
I really enjoyed this movie. I am Peruvian and I can tell you, like everyone here and in other Latin American countries, that we demand a good dubbing according to what Dragon Ball represents for us and that the essence of the characters be maintained. In general, I rescue how Broly became a friendly guy with all and not in the uncontrollable beast that we remember from the 90's, I must also say that I disliked certain scenes with a double meaning and well, they have managed to handle the action scenes that were required and I suppose that what will be remembered the most will be the scene after the credits, which many fans hoped would come true. In short, I think that DBS still works today and the figures say so and a good future is expected for the franchise with future adaptations.
honestly the movie was horrible
ass pulls and no build up typical dbs L
db ended at DBZ
Ah well we all have our opinions
Yeah but it was disappointing ash db movies aint it anymore i miss the old dbz films
Yeah there are some people who simply like the older ones, for me db has had its ups and downs, but I never thought the series was ruined or anything tbh
the old ones like the tapion movie janemba movie and all the others were fucking peak compared to the new ones
I like Wrath of the Dragon and Fusion Reborn enough, but they do have their problems:
Fusion Reborn
Wrath of the Dragon
This film was cheesy, stupid, absurd, ridiculous, and at times juvenile...and it was EXACTLY what I hoped it would be! By adopting the approach of making the entire film CGI, it has more inner consistency with its visual style. That style, aside from some marvelous displays of color, camera-panning, and lighting, lovingly utilizes the comedic and dramatic tropes of classic superhero manga and western comics, all with the bizarre sense of off-the-wall humor that Toriyama Akira would have welcomed with open arms. Some woefully-bad exposition hurts the beginning, but the new characters were mostly a fun bunch and the film as a whole is chock full of references and callbacks to things fans would smile at, both in laughter and in fondness.
I've been a fan of this franchise for the past 25 years of my life, and Dragon Ball is a franchise with nothing left to prove. It has already, along with Fist of the North Star, One Piece, and several other shonen, established a legacy that will endure forever. By being free from the shackles of having to take itself too seriously, the show is able to dial back the bombast, yet be more at peace with itself even when the bombast is cranked up. It's allowed it to revel in the comedic tone that characterized the franchise from the first time we met Goku and Bulma on Mount Paozu. Don't get me wrong - I love explosions, Yutapon Cubes, impact frames, and Hisashi Punches as much as the next Joe, but ever since the Battle of Gods film, the franchise seems to be trying to cultivate a new identity for itself, and one that has mostly succeeded - albeit with some major bumps in the road. If we continue to see more, sometimes-sillier takes on the universe and maybe every once in a while throw in some real terror, the future looks bright.
Honestly, it never meant for anything special other than keeping the hype up in my opinion. Did I enjoy it? To my Heart's extent. Did it offer something new and spectacular that could've had an impact on the whole anime ? Not really except minor things. But it did live up to the expectations that I had. So yeah, a fun movie with focus on Gohan and Piccolo for a change. Also the animation was glaring at first due to CG but I got used to it pretty fast.
To me, nowadays it's the best thing you can watch of the entire DB's franchise. It's the end of a long path started many years ago, with the original DB, and then DBZ (Androids/Cell saga in particular). This film it's the proof that Dragonball works very well even if Goku and Vegeta are the "side characters".
The animation style was beautiful, the comedy sketches were perfect.
Piccolo and Gohan are two charismatic characters, and they carry all the movie. But it has to be said that also the new characters, such as Gamma(s), are developed well, since their chara designs.
The climax of the movie gives me good vibes, I felt that. At the start of the battle, I've wished that Gohan would used Makankosappo to kill Cell Max... AND IT REALLY HAPPENED.
It's a movie rich of fan services, sure, but damn if works!
Suggested to all the fan of the original manga or DB series generally!
The movie didn't have a tight narrative, which is to be expected but we wasted all that time with Goku, Vegeta and whiz. Cell Max was a generic villain and the super hero aspect was dropped almost immediately after it debuted, Dr Hedo is an utter mess of a character and the rest of the red ribbon barely gets characterization.
Still the fights were good and I enjoyed the 3d cg waaay more than I thought possible. Wished cell actually had a personality or resembled cell at all in anything but name and face. The transformations were fine I can vibe with super namekusejin but beast Gohan is kinda goofy and I don't enjoy the trends and narrative of giving people their own unique transformation. They also pulled a fast one by not showing us teenager Gotenks, very funny.
Btw if anyone is keeping track of the retcons I noticed like 10 in this movie the main one being about cell being completely organic(original) instead of robotic(movie) and giant piccolo getting his power reduced after giantification when originally that wasn't the case
I thought Gohan sucked, he's been falling off hard ever since cell ended, he was good in buu don't get me wrong, but compared to cell Gohan man idk. it's like a cycle with him, I just give up, he's character is long assassinated lol. Piccolo was funny as hell, Pan was cool and cute, I loved magenta, enjoyed the cgi, cast did some thing epic.
