At this point. I'm genuinely waiting for a moment where Chisato emotionally snaps, because I swear, the show keeps building up to a potential breaking point for her. I'm guessing that the potential confrontation she has with Shinji will be that breaking point, but who knows? Also, I really couldn't take all the separations between the last episode and this one. On top of the looming fact that Chisato could die at a moment's notice. :(
After this episode I don’t think Chisato will snap. If she did, that’s ok, but I would be pretty surprised about it. The show’s tone switch back and forth a lot in this episode, but at the end, it is pretty consistent and remain intense. Majima doing epic things as usual, look like everything is in favor with him… for now. Next episode gonna go hard.
That guy who accidentally pull the trigger to himself though. Lmao
That guy who accidentally pull the trigger to himself though
That's what I assumed as well, but I saw people sayin that the cop was the one who shot him cuz the dude accidentally pointed the gun towards him, not to mention the cop was panicking so it could make sense. Not sure what actually happened tho
I'm utterly disappointed in Radiata, shit was slow af.
Overall the episode was good even with Chisato and Takina not being together i liked how they are individually trying to deal with the situation.
That cut of Takina confronting Majima's accomplice was so good, she is turning into my favorite

Lol Majima speaking his shit.
Chisato rocks every fit she wears, hope to see takina as well by the end of this series

Mika's breakdown and spilling everything regarding Shinji was so good, props to the VA and i dont think there will be a scene where chisato snaps(until she sees Yoshi or someone close to her die) it just doesn't seem in character for her and she understood why Mika did what she did especially since she doesn't have much time left to live.
The DA was kinda pathetic this episode, Majima played with em also if the guy who contacted them from Alan? I thought Yoshi was the top dog but how he is ready to die for the cause doesn't seem that way.

Shits about to go down, the ED hits different each time even though its the same
Also i couldn't help but laugh at this scene, Imagine having a shitty day at work only for this to happen

Surprise element :
Imagine yourself. Chisato, Mika, Shinji, Majima, Takina, all together inside a single room, while the bomb keeps ticking. On the outside, there is a big, bloody, war between Majima's gang and Lycoris squad. Oh also, people are rioting. Oh, maybe Kurumi and Robota is doing some intense hack battle that will affect the whole battlefield.
Imagine that, and predict the ending.
I actually can’t anymore. The writing has been spiraling downward since Ep. 4 and it’s yet to bottom out.
What happened to the episodic SoL with a side of John Wick that Ep 1-4 promised? How did this spiral into a wannabe GitS/Psycho Pass clone with a barely coherent overarching plot?
Why in the world did you think it was supposed to be nothing but an episodic SoL with John Wick moments on the side? Why are comparing this to Psycho Pass and GitS whose overall tones and narratives are so thematically and fundamentally different, even if the general setups are similar?
Fair. A comparison to Psycho Pass and GitS is unfair to those works since they're at least coherent with their writing. Lycoris can't even be bothered to set the groundwork necessary to make its plot have any kind of themes or narrative that isn't throwing shit at the wall and hoping it sticks.
Psycho Pass and GitS are as much about their worlds as they are their characters. Lycoris is entirely sold on its characters, I don't know why they decided to shift the focus away from them, but they did and we all are worse off for it.
Psycho Pass and GitS's premises are intended to be more complex. Lycoris Recoil's premise is more straightforward, on the other hand, so priorities are much different. Also, idk why you say the focus shifted away from the characters when the plot has always been slowly building up in the backdrop to begin with, and done in a manner that doesn't feel obstructive to the character segments. There's a time and place where either the plot or characters need to move more, and the director decided to emphasize the former due to enough buildup by that point. Whether or not it'll smoothly execute everything important remains to be seen.
As for the part where you claim the show is just tossing stuff and hoping something sticks, perhaps this is due to your sense of expectations and you wanted something profoundly deep and philosophical right off the bat in a show that still clearly has more prioritization with the perspective of the two main characters. Even the director stated this himself during an interview.
I wasn’t necessarily looking for something deep and philosophical. Obviously I was looking for something more SoL, and while it does have those subplots they’re rarely the focus of the later episodes when they do arise.
At the very least, they exist to distract from the near constant expo dumps that seemed to for a good portion of time give more questions than answers, and plot beats that fall apart when you think about it.
For example, Majima is written like we’re supposed to in some way empathize with his motivations with how much he waxes on about DA being the bad guys, but why? The only implication that the Lycoris are some Minorty Report-esque pre-crime unit is the opening monologue, but we never get any outlook and what this means to the average person. There’s no hole in the system for Majima to expose other than “your happiness is only because a secret police force is protecting you” which feels like the thing most people would shrug off. Second, after episode 10 I have to stretch to believe that this society is so protected that they couldn’t recognize a gun if handed to them. Third, if DA is so absolute why does the mafia exist in the first place? Wouldn’t they have been hunted down and destroyed by now? If they haven’t because DA isn’t absolute, then that just makes them a normal police force further bolstering my first two points.
Then there’s the Alan Institute. It’s built up like this big twist that the Alan Institute is evil, but why should it be? Our earliest interactions with Yoshi were him as some mysterious entity, and our only perspective on the Alan Institute is Chisato’s hazy memory that just assumes that whoever saved her must be the good guy. This isn’t some Arthur Foundation where it’s revealed the facade of goodwill is actually hiding evil intent, since there’s no front facing facade in the first place.
Lastly, Chisato’s whole arc makes no goddamn sense. She’s propped up as a mentor character for Takina in the first four episodes that will teach her how to open up and live a little. The only mystery surrounding her (which can implied to be important for Takina’s arc) is why someone as adept as her doesn’t kill people and why she left DA. If you wanted to pivot to a grander narrative, this could have been something to focus on to give her more urgency as a character. Instead, she as almost always been left in the dark or on the back foot which in antithetical to the initiative-driven character set up in those opening episodes. Even Takina’s role post episode 4 has nothing to do with her own arc of opening up and seeing the good in the world. Then again, it’s not like Takina’s personality is typical among Lycoris anyway, so we still are looking for answer as to why she was a hard ass to begin with.
But I tend to ramble…
So TLDR: you're excessively nitpicking for the most trivial reasons that don't really matter that much, at very least at this point in time.
Since when was this an episode SoL with John Wick mixed in? did you not pay attention to the subtle foreshadowing? lol
If you wanted an episodic SoL with guns you might as well Try Sabagebu
Lycoris' only description of itself sets itself up for episodic plots, and Ep. 1,2 and 5 follow the format of taking on a mission of the week. The narrative arc of Ep. 1 - 4 (Takina breaking out of her shell) is also the kind of thing that you'd get from an episodic show and the character's chemistry is well suited for a buddy cop format instead of what we got. Sure the foreshadowing was there, but its a stretch to expect it would overtake the entire plot by Ep. 6 and overwhelm the qualities with a Sci-fi (?) story that is barely held together by duct tape.
That's also ignoring the trailer posted to Crunchyroll's channel which explicitly focuses on the SoL café angle. So I don't think its unreasonable to assume that at some point that was to be the main point of the show.
well, for a lot people the show also has been a good surprise because the trailer deluded them into thinking it was just SoL and then the show with girls using guns came, boom. So I feel that was intentional, a similar pattern is to be observed with Engage Kiss afaik. So the trailer argument doesn't really hold up
FWIW I'd say 2 was the peak, as I liked the action/thriller element while 3/4 were fairly predictable in ways that didn't appeal to me... everyone has their own tastes, of course.
Also,
Lycoris is entirely sold on its characters. I don't know why they decided to shift the focus away from them, but they did and we all are worse off for it.
is basically what I have been thinking for the past few days while looking at reviews, but couldn't find formulated anywhere (didn't look on AniList lol) and am not concise enough to come up with myself :')
LycoReco cafe closed :( though I doubt Mizuki and Kurumi are out of the picture just yet, they'll def play an important role later on. Other than that not much to say since it's clear that Majima's plan is in its endgame now, so gonna be interesting to see how things play out. I'm lookin forward to seeing Mika in action lmao and I hope Chisato and Takina get back together eventually (well they were together in the third PV sooo)
Also, the LycoReco cafe twitter account has announced the cafes closure......truly a terrible day for rain
ep 10 eyecatch:
Chisato drip
Q: What makes a good show riddled in conflict?
A: A good antagonist.
You're the best Majima-san!

Majima is pretty cool.
His voice actor is also good imo but I might be biased. I started turning the volume up on his parts after I learned he also voiced Ryker for RF5. And Ry-kun is my favorite out of the bachelor characters.
To settle the debate about his talent I say that the balance thing was probably given by Alan institute, and his hearing may have been something he had to sacrifice for sight.
Chisato might have also sacrificed a natural talent in return for her bullet dodging skills, and we just don't know.
Yoshitsugu Matsuoka is really a great VA. I don't think there has ever been a role he has played where I have disliked his performance. Truly one of the industry's very best. And, of course, his performance as Majima-san has been great - as expected.
Actually, about his "balance", there was one scene where he had a phone (with round edges) perfectly balanced on a round railing on one of the bottom corners. So, there might be something more personal about his fixation on the "balance" of things. Either way, it is a compelling aspect of his character.
Why didn't he put a bomb in the boat and blow them all up?
ahahaha, what a bullshit "we came before the law and we are on top of the political system" ahaha
iukhasnjuioasduahs what an incredible plan people will find guns and go out shooting each other as if all it takes is guns to kill each other
ahahaha, the old woman with red hair who once said she was above the political system in the end grinds her teeth over political decisions
this organization is more secret than aliens, they must put some substance in the water of the people of this country
amazing epi Kappa
I can barely through the final episode with a heart transfer and them opening the cafe again and then maybe a prequel announcement and of course Majima being arrested
