Thoughts on the episode?
What would you rate the fourth season?
[Removed]
They're making a movie about what happened to most of the army in the time skip
The movie will actually cover the Holy Kingdom arc, which is about a war with a different kingdom.
The majority of the Re-Estize Kingdom's army was wiped out at the end of the third season, which included most of their commanders and ranking officers. What remained followed Prince Zanac, along with a ragtag force of drafted civilians, in a desperate attempt to fight off Ainz's forces - disgusted by the nobles murdering Zanac in an attempt to curry favor with him, Ainz' interest in the battle faded, and he left the rest to the guardians, instructing Cocytus and Mare to mercilessly crush the ramshackle army, sparing no one. And that's that.
why did she hide the royal books and etc? is the princess gonna betray ainz? im still lost
which chapter do i read in the LN to catch up from this episode?
It looks like its just an excuse to get Climb out of the area for some time while she kills her father when Ainz arrives.
I came to this conclusion as well. It's been difficult to tell her true motives, but after watching this episode I am about 90% sure it is as simple as wanting to spend eternity with Climb. For better or worse, I do not think this series is trying to make the princess out to be a schemer plotting Ainz's downfall. I think she just wanted Climb out of there so she could manipulate him into accepting becoming a demon of his own will later.
If you look at the end of the episode when Ainz is sitting on the throne of rubble, you can see the staff and crown (two of the items Climb hid) planted in the rubble behind him. i think she just did it to get Climb to leave for a bit so they could set up the fake theatrics in the throne room and had probably already told Ainz or Albedo where she would be having Climb hide them
Can anyone explain what those backflashes were supposed to show except for Ains not killing Climb ?
that the princess was with Nazarick all that time and how she planned for it
Did the princess betray her kingdom just to gain immortality? (well, her demonic form is pretty cute, but her personality is another thing xd), what about that blue cube? does it serve to make climb a demon too?
not just to gain immortality, more like to be freed from her shackles as a princess and be free to do whatever she wants with climb, yes the blue cube is to turn climb into a demon
Yep, moreover, this is also why she wanted Climb to listen to only her and refuse anything the king asked of him. Even in the end, when the king offered his daughter's hand to Climb in exchange for escaping with her out of the kingdom; for the princess spending eternity with Climb as forever-young demons is vastly more preferable than roughly 60-70ish years and dying. This offer was the best for both parties as Ainz was able to extract every last bit of value out of the kingdom that he could using her plans and royal knowledge.
Anime watcher only, so it's just my guess.

Love the series as always. There are obviously some content that are cut that make the scenes less cohesive but the mystery is also what makes me so curious and want to dive even deeper into the lore. What impressed me most was the sudden Renner singing near the end of the scene. It confused me at first but after realizing that this is Overlord, the creator making a princess singing passionately about something dark and twisted is like making fun of all other princess cliches.
well, now we know where all the budget of season 4 went...
but overall, not that great of a season, i did enjoy somewhat during the first half but after the dwarf kingdom and the cut out plot for the movie, thing just feel rather stretch out and barely give us any fun interaction in the later half of the season.
But i kinda expected that anyway since even season 2 and season 3 cut out a lot of stuff so i more or less just watch it for the plot and the cool OP/ED OST.
Is season 5 in the works?
Nothing yet. There aren't even enough books yet to make a new season yet
There are Vol. 15 and 16 that could be adapted, they aren't translated into english yet.
Yeah, but every season adapted 3 books. So with only two books out there isn't enough yet. And the series will end with Volume 18, so it would make sense to make Season 5 about Volume 15,16,17 and 18 instead of just 3 books. Also Vol. 15 and 16 were a bit lacking in "stuff happening" for two books in my opinion and I think the The Half-Elf God-kin arc wouldn't be enough for 2/3 of a season
As others have pointed out this season ends at the end of volume 14 of the LN, and the creator has mentioned stopping at volume 17. At the pace we have been going so far it means we get at most 13 more episodes, or 26 if we are lucky and they go deep into the source. It is pretty difficult to spot which direction this series is going, whether it be Ainz successfully taking over everything or him losing it all. The former would be rather anti-climactic (though it would be a rare win for the baddies) and there have been no real signals for the latter. At this point if they go the "he loses everything" route it would feel rushed and out of nowhere.
As for this season itself I agree with the others that this season was a bit on the slow side, but it still beats out seasons 2 and 3 in terms of plot. We started getting some actual answers to fill in some gaps and I thought the scene with the nobles presenting the prince's head was top tier. It was definitely the worst season when you are looking for the fight scenes.
I sincerely dislike how Madhouse handled this series. I wish they worked on the movie this season and released season 4 next season.
A perhaps slightly rushed final episode, with the Princess's betrayal not having much impact because they'd already shown us early on this series. All worth it for the random song though in her cute new outfit.
I enjoyed this series more than the last, and it certainly entertained me so i'd probably 8/10 it. However I did feel it suffered from the usual Overlord problem of spending too much time building things up only for them to brush them aside with ease or deal with it off screen - i know part of the appeal is how OP everyone is but there surely has to be some challenge if only for the benefit of narrative.
Another issue i did somewhat have with this season is that it basically changes Ains from an anti-hero, to just a straight up villain - there is no way to swing him butchering an entire country on a trumped up pretext (they knew it wasn't the Kingdoms fault) as anything but him being a dick.
The Part in which Princess Renner starts singing in her Ball Room (?), does anyone know what the play/song/monolog is called? I doubt its an original LN coposed thing or and the song might have a deeper meaning behind it. Like some famous theater play which im not familiar with.
Thx alot in advance!
It's an original composition for the anime. A song called "Fallen" https://overlordmaruyama.fandom.com/wiki/Fallen
solid 8.5
at least the political aspects are well covered but who didn't like it, so why did you get here? should have gone to see a generic anime (not that isekai is innovative)
maybe a ss 5 after the movie, maybe in 2025...or 2030 XD
apart from that it's much better to see a protagonist who is a squint-eyed genius prodigy in which the other characters are imbeciles for him to shine with deus ex-machina solutions
but ainz himself is an idiot and others think he is a genius because they are smarter lol
feelsbad by the people of the kingdom, but that's how it is, many suffer for the consequences of some
