I want to know if the series worth reading or if the hype is unjustified.
It's not. It has more content than the show, but the quality of writing and kind of material is the same. It's decent pulpy teen nonsense. If that's not what you're looking for, then avoid. You're not missing out on anything special.
what are u on, The quality of writing in the light novel is so different from the anime. The anime is simply a shitty adaptation. Literally, Ayanokoji writing in the LN had a lot of depths and one of the best I have seen while the anime is literally just edgy with lines that has never been said in the LN.
Both can be true – the anime can be a bad adaptation (I agree with you there) and the writing in the LN can also be bad on its own. The story is pointless, the dialogue is cringey, and the characters are terrible. Kind of funny you call the anime out for being edgy when the LN isn't light in that department either.
Agree to disagree then, the only bad writing in the LN so far imo is Ichinose backstory and thats probably bcos of the cultural difference between Japan and my country and the LN is very light in edgy department compared to the anime. Ayanokoji showed and said that he cares about his friends a lot and learning about emotions slowly through his friends which is sweet instead of anime where he flat out rejected Sato with "Youre not worth smiling for" when in the LN, he rejected her in a way that wont hurt her. the anime can be a bad adaptation IT IS BAD, thats all there is to it
"Ayanokoji showed and said that he cares about his friends a lot and learning about emotions slowly through his friends which is sweet instead of anime where he flat out rejected Sato with "Youre not worth smiling for" when in the LN, he rejected her in a way that wont hurt her"
Definitely agreed on this. The show has changed his character a lot in this way, which is unfortunate. Really doubling down on the edginess when the story doesn't even need any more of it.
""""""""""""""""lot of depths""""""""""""""""" yeah right lmao
I dont see how anyone who read the novel could disagree with me on that, literally one of the aspects of the novel where everyone should agree on unless u have 0 reading comprehension
What could've passed as edginess in the anime, being the somewhat inhumane way of thinking of the protag becomes pure nonsense in the LN because the reader's mostly INSIDE the head of the protag, with very few moments of "inhumane" and most random teenager thoughts. Surely another big brain moment from the author because he not only hides the truth to the rest of the cast but also to the reader ? (it's not)
Not to talk about every other edgy plot points that also made it to the anime
So yeah, the writing is garbage, nonsensical, and it really amazes me how this kinda thing is topping the charts on anilist lmao
"Most random teenager thoughts" ? Did u actually read the novel or read the summary of each volume cos that is just straight out wrong. Plus, there are little to no edgy points. "Oh how is this topping charts, surely everyone else can not read and I CAN and im not the dumb one right? Surely everyone else is just so stupid". U just lack reading comprehension, simple as that.
First off to most LN are worth reading especially if you liked the anime, movies, tv shows and whatnot are known for leaving things out and not fully adapting the entirety of the book and I find that to be a good enough reason to check out the source material.
And in COTE’s case it’s most certainly the case here as well (at least in my opinion) Ayanokoji is written in a more entertaining way than how he is presented in the anime, you get more of an insight into who he is thanks to his thoughts being on display (for the most part).
Honestly it’s stuff like this that makes me love reading, it gives you a better look into the characters, you feel like a mind reader (or a stalker) with the more closer inspection of the character’s lives.
Oh though Ryuen looks better in the anime imo too scrawny for a brawler type in the LN.
