mappa employees going thru it rn LOL
edit: shounenleaks, the account that posted the initial leak, has gotten banned for posting misinformation abt opm and mappa sooooooo ig this is most likely fake but nothing is confirmed or denied
They are working on wayyyy too much upcoming anime. I thought A-1 had it bad…
They FR gonna make hella money from this though
Aot and chainsaw man probably going to roll in loads of money but I still prefer studios focusing one (or two) big project. Mappa already have Vinland saga, jujutsu kaisen, and aot sequel planned and these gigantic title always come with gigantic expectation.
But if they can nailed it then I’m good, just a little bit concerned on what they have to face against rn
##I dont like this.
(Assuming it's true.)
For those complaining about the staff being overworked, MAPPA is one of the biggest studios with 200+ animators, the majority being "Noobies/young people", those animators are turned into different teams, assigned to different anime adaptations, the point being, they are not overworked, at least not more than the rest of the industry of anime. The biggest concern is, "What team will animate this?", will it be the veterans, the newbies, the CGI fans, or a mix? Anyway, I don't think MAPPA as a whole is capable of animating something that can be considered god-tier and stable, so seeing their name in an anime adaption that is hard to animate, is always bad news, either way, i don't think they will turn this into an investment product as they did with chainsaw man and I'm sure it will be fine, but it's Mappa, so expect a design update and a shift in the direction, they always need to let the viewer know it's a work of Mappa by making their worst version of things.
Also, being optimistic, they might let some of the MadHouse veterans that are still working at Mappa animate some scenes.
Note; MadHouse animated Season 1
Looking at recently adapted series, such news do not excite me anymore. sadly
: (
it's still a rumor nothing is official yet.
also if you thought about it's hard for them to produce it since they have chainsaw man part 2 , jujutsu kaisen's second season and hell's paradise so don't think they'll handle it unless it's a collaboration with other studios (Madhouse and maybe J.C. Staff despite not doing that often but they let A.C.G.T work with them sometimes.)
If it's true, then…
They are currently working on a bunch of top-tier anime, apparently that would cause some quality drop in general because of management resources and man-hours distribution.
1s of OPM is just built different, no one could reach this production management as it did the madhouse team who worked on it. Ufotable was so close with their animation in Demon Slayer Entertainment District Arc. Bones has Mob Psycho from the same author who creates OPM. They are more suitable to animate OPM s3, than MAPPA imho.
Let's wait for more information

I don't think it would drop quality its not like all of mappas employees work on all 5 animes, its split into teams and each project has different people, sure some of them might work on a few other of the projects but its not like full time just extra help instead of being the main animators.
So we don't have to worry but I did worry about this with other studios before too.
and this confirms that this is a fake leak.

For those trashing MAPPA and praising Madhouse's work on season 1:
Madhouse wasn't the reason for season 1 being amazing. It was all thanks to a very passionate director with a lot of connections to the best the industry had to offer at the time. People that didn't even work for Madhouse; freelancers. Without him, none of it would have happened the way it did. Think Sakurai's role in the creation of the Super Smash Bros. series. Without his connections and his reputation in the industry, a lot of what made the series possible would never have happened.
Bringing Madhouse back for season 3 won't automatically make the show good, even if you bring in some so-called "veterans". Madhouse hasn't even put out anything remarkable or noteworthy in forever. Long past are the times of shows like Black Lagoon, Hunter x Hunter, Kaiji, Death Parade, Death Note, Parasyte, etc. Nowadays, we get stuff like Police in a Pod, takt op.Destiny, Overlord (a terrible adaptation of the incredible source material), etc. Sure, Madhouse put out trash before too, but you had the occasional gold in between each terrible show that would shake the industry with its quality and popularity. Now, you don't get that anymore. There is no gold among the trash, there is just trash.
MAPPA isn't my favourite studio by any means, but at least they have a stable track record over the past few years, so it would make more sense for them to be able to put out something watchable. Vinland Saga is generally highly regarded as a great adaptation, Jujutsu Kaisen has been of high quality so far, Chainsaw Man was pretty decent, and AOT is adequate for the most part. Personally, I would prefer BONES if they gave OPM the same love as Mob Psycho, but you could also quickly end up with a My Hero Academia situation.
Fact of the matter is, no studio is a surefire success when it comes to adapting a popular manga, but I would rather go with a studio that is actively putting out decent adaptations, than a studio that has been nothing but a disappointment for years. If the OG team from season 1 came back, that would obviously be incredible, but that is highly unlikely, and shouldn't be expected. Worst case scenario, we end up with a terrible studio like A-1 Pictures or J.C. Staff, or we get the AOT Final Season Part 1 scenario where the entire production ends up rushed like hell. Best case scenario, we get a capable studio with a capable team that gets the time they need to make something worthwhile. Most likely, we'll get something in between. Nothing like the high quality of season 1, but also nothing like the low quality of season 2.
It will never be as good as the art in the manga anyways. ONE and Murata are a match unlike any other in the industry.
