Recommend some "must read" one-shots.

In the mood for some short stories. I want to read a lot tonight but don't want to commit to a long/multi volume series. So what are the must reads for one-shots? Make me think, make me question life, give me action, give me romance, anything and everything is a welcomed recommendation!
